The rest of the thugs rapidly leaped from their vehicles too, encircling the targets while training guns on them, wicked smirks twisting across numerous faces.
Spotting the weapons drawn, Oliver balled his fists in rage. He absolutely loathed these damn bastards toying with him and his precious family.
He itched to thrash every one of them senseless and fling them spinning like ragdolls. However, right then, he realized he stood no chance against these armed goons. Not with barrels aimed straight at their skulls.
"Everyone, please stay calm," he stated, voice steady even as wrath surged wildly through his blood. Then, glancing at the driver, he questioned, "Did you bring the weapons with you?"
The driver shook his head. "No sir, unfortunately, we weren't expecting an ambush from some dangerous gangs, and the security team wasn't prepared for such an occasion."
"Shit... We're screwed!" Linda muttered under her breath. "Why are these guys attacking us anyway? What the hell is going on here?!"
Oliver pondered briefly, then recalled the fellow he'd pummeled at the club earlier, piecing it together. "Maybe the man I beat up belonged to some sort of gang, or perhaps he had hired these guys to retaliate against me? Either way, that means they came specifically after me."
His girlfriend Maya stared at Oliver in utter shock. She never imagined events spiraling like this! They'd only sought some fun, yet now armed men menaced them with guns. What to do now? How had chaos erupted so swiftly!?
Such scenes Maya knew solely from films or television, never dreaming they could strike reality, let alone strike her and Oliver. Terror gripped her, trapping her in a vivid nightmare.
Meanwhile, the leader glared at the group and barked, "Come on out now! Unless you want to get shot where you stand!"
All froze upon hearing the threat. Unbelievable that this brute truly menaced death for disobedience. The whole ordeal was utterly insane!
"Don't worry, everyone." Oliver soothed them. "These thugs won't be able to kill us while we're inside the car. The windows are bulletproof, and the doors are made from strong metal. They won't be able to penetrate it even if they try."
Security personnel in the other two vehicles likewise calmed Ron and their fellow passengers. "Everyone, please remain calm and don't panic. We have activated the emergency alarms, alerting our headquarters about the attack. Help will be on the way very soon, so please just wait until then."
Though the security team projected assurance, Ron shivered uncontrollably in dread. What if aid arrived too late? What fate awaited then? Would these fiends gun them down mercilessly for defiance?
Noticing none emerging, the leader bared his teeth. "I guess you want to do this the hard way, don't you? I didn't want to do this, but you forced me to!" He hoisted his pistol skyward and fired a warning shot. "You better come out now, or else I swear, I won't hesitate to kill all of you fuckers!"
The sharp crack of the gunshot from outside jolted everyone in their seats. That noise alone filled them with paralyzing fear, death's shadow looming close.
"Dammit... Is this how you guys want to play? Fine! Have it your way then!" The leader snarled, seeing no compliance post-warning. "Shoot down everyone inside the car!"
The instant the order escaped his lips, his men leveled weapons at the cars, fingers itching on triggers.
Witnessing this, Oliver yanked Linda and Maya into his embrace, pressing their faces to his chest to spare them the horrific sight ahead.
Right as the barrage loomed, a distant helicopter's thunderous roar swelled nearer, peaking as it suspended overhead like a predatory hawk poised to strike.
Suddenly, a piercing beam flooded the site, dazzling all who dared glance upward.
"What the hell is that?!" the leader yelped in alarm.
His nearby henchmen swore profusely, eyes seared by the chopper's abrupt glare.
Abruptly, thunderous blasts erupted from above amid a hail of gunfire cascading down.
In the span of a heartbeat, thugs encircling the vehicles crumpled lifelessly, precise bullets felling them sequentially with lethal accuracy.
Chaos erupted among the thugs as they watched their fellow gang members dropping dead right before their eyes.
The gangsters scattered in all directions, diving behind their cars for cover, desperately avoiding the bullets raining from above while firing back with their pistols.
Yet, not a single one of their shots managed to touch the helicopter suspended overhead. On the contrary, they were relentlessly targeted by the gunmen inside the chopper.
One after another, the gang members collapsed lifeless from gunshot wounds. Amid the frenzy, their leader took a bullet too and crumpled to the ground, blood spreading quickly around his body.
Sprawled on the icy asphalt, his breaths came in shallow gasps due to the severe blood loss. "What's... going on? How did it come to this...?" he muttered, his mind slipping into darkness, baffled by the sudden reversal of fortunes.
This was meant to be a straightforward revenge operation—to torment that bastard and drag him to the boss. But instead, he lay dying, his blood soaking the pavement as his sight dimmed.
Moments later, his life slipped away with his final breath, leaving him as just another lifeless body on the road, surrounded by his fallen comrades.
In less than a minute, every thug had been gunned down mercilessly, and the helicopter swung its spotlight onto Oliver's car before descending to touch down on the highway.
Out stepped two men and a woman from the chopper, assault rifles in hand, as they advanced toward Oliver and the others in the car.
Spotting them, Oliver let out a relieved sigh and grinned warmly. "So glad to see you, Elle."
The woman returned the smile, lowering her weapon before reaching the car and pulling open the door. "I'm sorry for keeping you waiting, Mr. Oliver. But I didn't expect we'd be doing the rescue mission when you were just supposed to enjoy your little party."
The young man shrugged casually and patted Maya and Linda on the back. "We're safe now, ladies. You don't have to worry anymore."
