Near the entrance of the auction house built from crystal, in the middle of the crowd, a delicate layer of spiritual energy enveloped her body.
To everyone present, she looked like nothing more than an ordinary young woman, dressed simply, with features that blended effortlessly into the crowd. Her hair, which was actually long and black with silver streaks, appeared short and brown. Her eyes, normally almond-shaped and as deep as the night sky, looked round and dull.
Her slender figure, which normally drew attention with its natural elegance, appeared plain and unremarkable.
To Kyrian, the illusion simply did not exist.
He saw her long black hair with silver streaks cascading like silk over her shoulders, catching the lantern light and reflecting it in tiny silver glimmers. He saw her almond-shaped eyes reflecting the glow of the spiritual lanterns, as though they contained little stars within them, each shining with a light of its own.
He saw her light blue dress embroidered with delicate silver threads along the sleeves, resembling a night sky filled with constellations, each point of light a tiny star woven into the fabric.
She calmly watched the movement in the square as she waited, her gaze drifting through the crowd with serene patience. There was no impatience in her gestures, nor anxiety in her posture. Only a quiet expectation, as though she already knew he would come.
At that moment, Kyrian’s heart beat a little faster. It was only a single beat, a slight break in its steady rhythm, but it was enough for him to notice.
What was that? Ever since he had first seen her at the festival’s opening ceremony, it happened every time his eyes met hers. An involuntary, inexplicable reaction that he could not control.
It was not unpleasant. It was simply... strange. Kyrian had always possessed complete control over his emotions, his body, and his reactions. But in front of her, something seemed to slip beyond his grasp. A tiny crack opened in his defenses, and through it, something he could not name tried to emerge.
Quickly regaining control of his emotions, he walked straight toward her, his steps firm and confident. There was no hesitation in his stride, nor uncertainty in his eyes.
The moment he approached, Gao Ziyue gently turned her head, as if she had sensed his presence even before seeing him. Her eyes immediately met his, and a smile naturally blossomed across her face.
It was not the polite and elegant smile she wore before others, a courteous smile that concealed more than it revealed. It was sincere, almost relieved, as though the sight of him were a balm she had never realized she needed.
"I figured you would." Her voice was soft, carrying a familiarity that transcended their physical meeting.
Kyrian stopped before her, the distance between them reduced to only a few steps. He could feel the spiritual energy radiating from her body, the subtle warmth of her presence.
"Figured what?"
She tilted her head slightly, a gesture he had already come to recognize as uniquely hers.
"That you would find me immediately. I was curious to see how long it would take." Her eyes sparkled with amusement.
"Apparently, not even a minute."
Kyrian quickly glanced around, noticing how people walked right past her without even giving her a second look. It was as though her very existence had been completely dissolved into the crowd, making her invisible to everyone except him.
"Your illusion is truly impressive. I doubt anyone besides me could see through it."
She smiled, amused by the observation.
"Yes. To everyone... except you." She paused, her eyes meeting his.
"Perhaps your eyes are my natural enemy, Kyrian."
Kyrian merely nodded, a simple gesture that carried more meaning than words could express.
For several seconds, neither of them spoke. The silence between them was not awkward but filled with a gentle anticipation, like the moment before music begins.
It was curious. During all that time talking within the dream domain, they had never once felt the slightest awkwardness. Words flowed naturally, silences were comfortable, and the connection between them felt so strong that it seemed to transcend the limitations of the physical world.
But now, they stood before each other for the first time in the real world. The air around them felt different, heavier.
Gao Ziyue was the first to break the silence, her voice carrying genuine curiosity.
"So... how was your day?" The question was simple, but her eyes showed that she truly wanted to know.
Kyrian answered naturally, feeling completely at ease sharing his experiences.
"Besides participating in a few festival competitions, the alchemy competition in the morning, the combat competition at noon, and the comprehension trial in the early afternoon, I spent the entire day at Sun Luguo’s forge." He paused briefly, remembering the heat of the furnace and the constant sound of the hammer.
"It was a productive day."
Her eyes lit up with renewed interest.
"You know Sun Luguo?" There was a note of surprise in her voice, as though he had revealed something unexpected.
He nodded.
"Yes. In fact, he’s my master now."
Genuine surprise spread across Gao Ziyue’s face, her eyes widening slightly.
"I know him well. I’ve bought weapons from him before, although he never realized it was me making the purchase. I’ve always admired his work. There’s a quality to his craftsmanship that’s difficult to find among the other blacksmiths of the Caravan."
"Even so, his prestige in the city is unquestionable. His weapons are considered some of the finest available to cultivators of every realm."
She paused, her eyes studying Kyrian’s face with newfound appreciation.
"It’s incredible that he accepted you as a disciple. I’ve heard he accepted a few students over the years, but true disciples? None. He’s always been extremely selective, far too demanding for most people."
Kyrian took a deep breath, thinking about how he had become Sun Luguo’s disciple.
"I guess I got lucky." He replied simply, his humility completely genuine.
Gao Ziyue knew it had taken far more than luck for him to be chosen by Sun Luguo. Luck alone could never have impressed such a demanding master. But she said nothing more about it, respecting his modesty.
