Quinn, a social outcast and low-level student, endures daily harassment in a world governed by wealth and special abilities. Orphaned by a brutal war against the Dalki race, his only inheritance is a mysterious, indestructible book he has spent years unsuccessfully trying to open. After a frustrating day, a drop of his blood accidentally lands on the cover, triggering an unknown reaction that forces the book to open. As the pages turn, Quinn loses consciousness while a strange message initiates.

Quinn's eyelids flickered as he stirred, his blurry vision slowly regaining focus. He felt a throbbing sensation in his head and a soreness throughout his limbs. Pushing himself up from the floor, he reached up to check for any physical damage.

"Why do I have such a splitting headache?"

After confirming his skull remained intact despite his tumble, he reached down to retrieve his glasses. Though one lens was missing, he slid them on out of long-standing habit. Immediately, his head swam and the world turned into a blurred mess.

He pulled them off, realization dawning that his sight actually grew worse with them on. Quinn rushed to his desk, grabbed a pencil, and scrawled the letter 'A' on the wall. He retreated across the small room until he felt the wall press against his back.

"How is this even possible?" Quinn wondered.

His vision was somehow perfectly sharp. Having navigated his entire life with dismal eyesight, this sudden clarity left him stunned. Fragments of memory flashed through his mind—the moments before his blackout—centering on one thing: the book.

Panic set in as he scanned his surroundings.

"The book! Where on earth did it go?"

He tore the room apart searching, but nothing appeared. A book couldn't simply vanish from such a small space, and the mystery of its disappearance gnawed at his sanity.

"Am I misplacing it like my socks? No, stop being an idiot; this is a serious tome, not footwear."

He focused intently on those final seconds before he lost consciousness. He recalled the book hovering in mid-air and heard a series of faint words just before his vision failed.

"What was that? It sounded like a system prompt."

The moment he voiced the thought, a status window manifested directly before his gaze.

"Wow, just like those retro games people used to be obsessed with."

Noticing additional tabs at the top, he merely focused on them mentally, and the screen shifted instantly.

With all skills greyed out and inaccessible, he navigated to the next tab labeled 'Shop'.

"Is there anything I can actually do?"

He checked the final tab, the Quest log, which finally showed signs of being active.

After examining the system's features, he found that a mere thought was enough to toggle the display. A simple intent brought it back into view whenever he needed.

Quinn was convinced that the heirloom left by his parents was an 'ability book'. Such items were fiercely expensive assets sold by military factions or shady black-market dealers. Yet, he had never heard of an ability book that vanishes after use to bestow a system like this. Usually, these books required diligent study; they weren't objects you simply touched to acquire immediate mastery.

A grin crept onto his face. This was incredible news. He had been a struggling level 1 user his entire life due to his inability to afford these guides. The next step was obvious: identify his new ability.

"Fire! Grant me fire!" Quinn shouted, thrusting his palm forward.

"Alright, maybe water... Water, out!" He repeated the motion, but nothing happened.

After cycling through various elemental triggers, he remained empty-handed.

"Is this thing useless? Is it really just a system-based quirk?"

He pondered his dilemma. If this was truly like a game, perhaps completing these quests would grant the strength he lacked. He had been approaching it like a standard ability book, but clearly, he had stumbled onto something unprecedented.

Most ability books focused on a singular path. Selecting the first one was a critical choice for any human, as the body generally could only channel one attribute. If one started with a transformation ability, they were locked into that domain. The same applied to fire or any other element.

Quinn moved to his mini-fridge and pulled out several water bottles.

He began chugging them relentlessly.

"Good grief, how much is two litres? My stomach feels like it’s going to explode."

As he polished off the eighth bottle, a notification chimed.

"Well, at least the system functions."

Suddenly, a thunderous pounding rattled his door. Quinn rushed to answer it, revealing a massive, bald-headed man in a black military uniform. Medals adorned his chest, and a nameplate read: Sergeant Griff.

"Boy, you need to vacate this room immediately. The transport has been waiting for five minutes," the Sergeant barked.

Caught up in his discoveries, Quinn had completely forgotten about the day's events.

"It is time for your departure to the military school," Griff declared.
