Thick smoke poured from the kitchen, startling Porter and the terrified Lucus who clung to him like a koala. Annie Lawrence burst out screaming that the kitchen was on fire, prompting Porter to grab an extinguisher and douse the flames amid the chaos. Surveying the battlefield-like mess, Porter questioned Omega Huntley's cooking abilities, contrasting it sharply with Joanna Lawrence's impeccable kitchen standards.

Upon stepping inside to extinguish the blaze, he noticed a charred black lump sitting in a frying pan on the stove.

He had no clue precisely what that was.

Edward Cooper scanned him head to toe, and after confirming he was truly unharmed, he let out a deep sigh of relief.

"Good you're alright." He thumped his chest, admitting he'd been scared half to death moments ago, though now the flames were gone and all were safe.

"What sparked the fire in the kitchen?" Edward frowned, eyeing the kitchen still hazy with smoke.

A smoke alarm had been fitted in the kitchen.

Just earlier, when the fire ignited, the piercing wail from the smoke alarm must have echoed across several floors up and down.

They had caught the sound too, naturally.

That's why they rushed right over.

Porter paused briefly before explaining, "Omega was cooking in the kitchen when the fire broke out. Not sure of the exact cause—we can ask her about it later."

Realizing it was a cooking mishap, Edward's face twisted in a mix of exasperation and disbelief.

However, he held back further comments, nodding as he said, "Let's step outside first. Way too much smoke here; don't want anyone choking. We'll clean up the kitchen soon, and this room's likely unusable now."

Porter nodded in agreement.

As they exited the room, the other guests stood waiting outside. Kelvin Norman hurried up when he saw Edward and Porter emerge, asking, "I heard about the fire. Was it bad? All put out now?"

"It's out." Porter shot a look at the guilty party, Omega, who stood there blankly without a single word of worry. A wave of annoyance washed over him.

She had started the fire, after all.

Joanna and the others approached as well.

Moments earlier, heavy smoke had billowed into the hallway, reaching noses in other rooms.

"Porter, you okay?" Though he appeared fine, Joanna asked with genuine worry.

She had heard it was Porter who'd rushed in to battle the flames.

Even if the fire hadn't seemed massive, it carried real risk.

"I'm fine, no need to worry." Joanna's care touched Porter deeply.

He glanced at Omega once more, reflecting that similar faces aside, they remained entirely different souls.

He hadn't demanded her thanks or anything.

But some basic show of concern would have been decent.

Or even a simple thank you.

Rather than acting entitled to it all.

Any budding positive feelings toward Omega faded away in an instant.

"What started the fire?" Kelvin pressed.

Just as Porter prepared to respond, a childish voice chimed in: "It was her."

Little Lucus jabbed his finger at Omega, declaring, "She set the kitchen ablaze. Huge fire, super big. Porter Dad and I bolted out, she did too, then Porter Dad went back in."

In a flash, every gaze locked onto Omega.

Annie had hoped to dazzle everyone, but instead, she ignited a disaster.

Her bid to shine backfired into pure chaos.

Feeling the weight of all those stares, fury surged within her, yet she turned with a soft, heartbreaking vulnerability.

She nibbled her lip, tears brimming in her eyes, and stammered through sobs, "I'm sorry for troubling everyone. I never expected this to happen. I don't know why the kitchen caught fire. It wasn't on purpose. Honestly, I didn't mean for any of it..."

Tears spilled down her cheeks as she spoke.

Once the crying began, no one knew how to respond.
