My Longevity Simulation Chapter 1091: Mister Desires to Save the World
Previously on My Longevity Simulation...
After a brief moment of reflection, Li Fan decided against further evasion. He nodded affirmatively and responded: "That's correct. How did you figure it out, Fellow Daoist?"
In his somewhat subdued tone, Xu Ke let out a light chuckle: "For a figure who's an adversary to all existence, where else in the Xuanhuang Realm could details about me possibly reside except within the Fallen Immortal Realm?"
Li Fan felt a slight jolt of surprise: "An adversary to the world? What exactly do you mean?"
Now Xu Ke appeared equally confused: "You don't know about what I've been guarding?"
Li Fan shook his head openly.
"Then what brought you to seek me out?" Xu Ke fixed his gaze on Li Fan, his face revealing nothing.
"I came to you, Fellow Daoist, firstly to aid the remnants of the empire and realize their deepest aspiration."
"Secondly, to grasp the array of arrangements Mr. Bai established in the past. Upon discovering his exploits, I was profoundly touched by his noble spirit. Yet the details I gathered from the Fallen Immortal Realm remained fragmented, mere snippets of memories from various eras. Thus, it demanded great exertion to track down your seclusion. I wished for you to shed light on these matters for me." Li Fan clasped his hands, his words earnest and heartfelt.
Learning of Li Fan's reverence for Mr. Bai, Xu Ke's demeanor eased noticeably.
"The empire?" His eyes tightened, as though delving into the past.
"It's the inheritance you established in the realm where Red Nine-Headed Lion perished." Li Fan prompted gently.
"Ah..." At last, Xu Ke remembered.
"Xiao Qing, Xiao Hong..." A nostalgic look crossed his features.
"They're both still living. However, that Heavenly Fate Black Bird met its end while pursuing traces of you." While speaking, Li Fan extended an object to him.
It was the final Black Bird feather Xiao Hei had left behind in the Beast Realm.
Xu Ke accepted the deep-black feather, his fingers quivering faintly. A flicker of grief appeared in his gaze. After an extended pause, he murmured softly: "I've failed you."
"Might I keep this?" Xu Ke inquired.
"It's simply restoring it to its rightful possessor. Should Xiao Hei learn that his abandoned Black Bird feather has at last returned to you, he could find eternal rest." Li Fan let out a heavy sigh.
"My gratitude." With great care, Xu Ke placed the Black Bird feather securely against his chest.
Upon the lofty stone peak, an utter quietness once more descended upon them.
At the summit of this barren expanse, not even a breeze stirred.
Nothing but the timeless, unyielding hush from antiquity lingered on.
Li Fan showed no haste. He merely stood by Xu Ke amid this profound isolation, awaiting with steady patience.
After what seemed an eternity, Xu Ke broke the silence anew.
That prior sequence of revelations had profoundly shifted his view of Li Fan.
"What have you uncovered up to now?" Xu Ke questioned.
"In those days, you and Xiao Hei journeyed to the distant Nanming Sacred Beast Mountain. In reality, it stemmed from a mission Mr. Bai entrusted to the Beast Taming Sect. The chain of events that followed aimed entirely at breeding the Rift Whales, beings of endless reproduction and rift-tearing prowess. This was intended to relocate the ordinary folk from the scattered small worlds—displaced by the emergence of the Immortal-mortal Miasma—as remotely from the Xuanhuang as feasible."
"Moreover, the Immortal-mortal Miasma itself arose from Mr. Bai's defiance of heaven's will. As the supreme Great Celestial Venerable of Xuanhuang, he met his end through self-sacrifice on its account."
...
Li Fan voiced his insights deliberately, weaving together the fragments from the Fallen Immortal Realm and the actual world into a coherent narrative.
"You've gathered substantial knowledge."
"You've clearly devoted much consideration to it."
"In this era, how few remain who recall Mr. Bai?" To Li Fan's astonishment, Xu Ke offered a deep bow, conveying his profound esteem.
"Yet numerous questions linger in my mind, and matters I cannot release. I beseech you, Fellow Daoist, to illuminate them. Without your guidance, I dread unrest will plague my days and nights." Li Fan declared gravely.
"As the Xuanhuang Celestial Venerable, Mr. Bai wielded the mightiest force in the Xuanhuang Realm during that age. Why opt for self-sacrifice and unleash the Immortal-Mortal Miasma to shield the common people?"
"Do you believe the Immortal-Mortal Miasma truly succeeded? Had the Xuanhuang Realm never witnessed the Immortal-Mortal Miasma from start to finish, what course might history have taken?" Xu Ke countered with his own query.
Li Fan mulled it over briefly before replying measuredly: "Absent the Immortal-Mortal Miasma, the Great Calamity of Incompatible Cultivation Technique would persist. Ultimately, cultivators would descend into distrust and carnage, culminating in utter deadlock. Throughout that turmoil..."
"Calamity at the gates dooms the pond's dwellers. In the desolation of shattered cultivation paths, where might mortals seek refuge? A survival rate of one in ten thousand would count as mercy. Contracting the Immortal-Mortal Miasma and being compelled to flee to small worlds: though countless perish en route, it pales against the horrors awaiting them in the Xuanhuang Realm." Xu Ke completed Li Fan's line of reasoning.
Hearing this, Li Fan nodded deliberately, signaling his accord.
"Thus, Mr. Bai perceived the Xuanhuang Realm's destiny across the ensuing millennia from the calamity's very dawn?" Li Fan pressed further.
"For Mr. Bai, such foresight posed no challenge." Xu Ke affirmed plainly.
"If so..." Li Fan's voice and countenance shifted sharply.
"The Great Calamity of Incompatible Cultivation sprang solely from the Dharma-Transmitting Immortal Ancestor disseminating the novel technique. Eliminate that source of ruin, and salvation might still dawn! Why then did Mr. Bai yield without resistance?"
"He forsook his very existence, yet shunned confrontation with the Immortal Ancestor?" Bitterness laced Li Fan's words heavily.
"The immortal road stretches before us, untreadable, for the Dharma-Transmitting Immortal Ancestor blocks the way." After a hushed interval, Xu Ke echoed Mr. Bai's ancient sigh with a gentle breath.
He continued: "Setting aside if Mr. Bai could even rival the Immortal Ancestor, who had already transcended the laws by then."
"In Mr. Bai's calculations, even the Immortal Ancestor's demise wouldn't avert the catastrophe engulfing the Xuanhuang Realm."
"Have you encountered that beastly abomination in Ningyuan City's hidden vault: the man-dog abomination?"
"I have."
"That creature bore a human frame with dog-like appendages. Mr. Bai once sought to mend their forms. He assembled fitting human parts, planning to excise the canine limbs and graft human ones in their place."
"Yet since the dog limbs had long integrated seamlessly through everyday use, Mr. Bai's repeated endeavors all ended in failure."
"The majority succumbed outright amid the procedure. Those that appeared to thrive seldom endured beyond a month. They withered away in agony from the savage depletion of their vitality."
"Regardless of Mr. Bai's methods, the result stayed unaltered."
Xu Ke recounted this with composed clarity.
Comprehension dawned gradually on Li Fan.
"So the Xuanhuang Realm endures a parallel plight?"
Xu Ke exhaled deeply: "What has been poured out defies retrieval."
"The transformations wrought by the Immortal Ancestor upon the Xuanhuang Realm have solidified."
"To undo them would demand exertion many times over—tenfold, a hundredfold, or beyond."
