Even as Damon grappled with his past, Iris remained a steadfast presence by his side, reminding him of the value of companionship. While Evangeline tended to the injured and Abellona inspired hope for a new world, a massive landmass descended from the sky, bringing Xander Ravenscroft and more survivors, including Emilia. Later, Xander confronted Damon, revealing the loss of his own family and acknowledging Damon's victory in both life and battle, with Damon concluding they were now even.

The camp was getting relatively crowded as more and more survivors found their way there. Iris had been smart, so when Ashcroft left Maw with her, she made sure that Maw created Shadow Drones that would be able to travel through this ruined world with ease, finding survivors and bringing them here.

There was a special type that had the ability to create wormholes. What it did was simple. One opened up a rift in one location, and the one at the camp would use its body to connect to that rift.

Seeing such a Shadow Drone, Damon couldn’t help but imagine how much it would cost to make, not to mention its high rank and zero combat power. It was only bred to be a walking spatial gate.

Damon tried to help improve the camp as best he could, but the people there were not very welcoming of him, at least some of them. The demons were fine with him and saw him as some kind of messiah.

The sky was getting dark. Rain didn’t fall on this world. However, whenever the sky darkened, it wasn’t a good sign. Normally, what would fall was rainwater, but in this dead world, what fell was black rain that was hot and corrosive.

Those who had mastered barriers quickly cast barrier spells to seal off the camp from the sky, preventing the rain from destroying everything.

This made Damon think of another problem. How would they grow food and farm in this world? Abellona was convinced they could create an artificial sun. Did she also plan to use magic to water the crops?

How much of this dead world could she terraform?

It was ambitious, to say the least, but Damon didn’t want to live in such a bleak world.

Come to think of it, he had a skill that could recreate a world. Only a god could use that skill, and he was the furthest thing from a god.

Just as he was about to turn around, he spotted four auras descending from the sky toward the barrier, right as the rain was about to start.

When they reached the barrier, one of the mages maintaining it spotted them and instantly opened it to let them in.

There were four women, each powerful in her own right.

Damon felt a weight leave his chest when he saw them. They had survived everything. He was glad. His shoulders relaxed slightly, and the tension that had been building in his chest eased as he took them in, making sure they were all there.

When his eyes met Lilith’s, she forced a smile but didn’t say anything. Renata didn’t bother with a smile. She immediately closed the gap between them and wrapped her arms around him.

She didn’t say a word, and honestly, neither did Damon.

He gently touched her back, where her large wings were. It wasn’t often that he saw Renata’s demon wings, but now that the established social order was gone, she didn’t need to hide that she was a demon.

"Lilith, Lilith!" Ric seemed to jump for joy when he saw her. He bolted out from under a tent, a raven perched on his head, and threw himself into Lilith’s arms.

She smiled, her tired expression softening as she rubbed his head.

It was a touching moment. Damon could almost see a light flash across Lilith’s exhausted face as she held Ric close, the weariness in her eyes briefly giving way to genuine happiness.

He let go of Renata, who went to pick up Ric. She and Lilith had raised the boy, so he trusted them a great deal.

Damon stopped in front of Seras, who was staring at him with an unreadable expression.

He touched his horns awkwardly, shifting his gaze away from hers before muttering, "Just say it."

Seras shrugged, then scoffed, the corner of her mouth curling upward.

"You really want me to compliment your edgy new look so badly? Fine, I suppose you look a bit dashing."

Damon’s eyes widened slightly before he covered his face with his palms, letting out a quiet groan.

"Aren’t you going to berate me for being a demon? Why are you suddenly so, so... ahh!"

He didn’t get to finish.

"I’ve killed a lot of demons during the war. I don’t hate them. In fact, I’ve come to respect those who fought beside me. Besides, is that really important now?"

Damon sighed and lowered his head, his hands falling away from his face. This was not the response he had been expecting.

Then he turned to the blue-haired woman beside her.

"Paimon."

"In the flesh."

"No surprise. You wouldn’t die, and you also didn’t join Ashcroft in the final battle."

She shook her head, giving him a faintly amused look.

"Not at all. I didn’t get that chance since I was late, and I got to witness what became of them all."

"What became of them?" Damon asked, his brows drawing together. Then he recalled what Evangeline had said. "You mean the madness of war? Yes, I’ve experienced it before when I went to the Anarchy Mountains."

Paimon glanced at him, then turned her gaze toward the crowds of people that made up the camp. At this point, it was bigger than just a camp. It was perhaps the largest collection of survivors. Her eyes lingered on the exhausted faces around them before she looked back at Damon.

"I see. You must have a plan, then. Shall we discuss this somewhere without too many eyes?"

Damon nodded and gestured for them to follow. He reached out and grabbed Lilith’s hand, feeling her squeeze his in return.

It reminded him of when they were still at the academy, and for a brief moment, he found himself reluctant to let go.

Eventually, they reached the tent at the center. Honestly, it was a bit shabbier than what they were used to. Even when they were in the midst of a war, they had still had a better tent.

Damon still had the tent he had stolen from Abellona years ago, but he planned on giving it to her as sleeping quarters. He would not abide her sleeping in anything but the best conditions.

Paimon sat down on a chair made by the shadows Damon conjured up, and so did the others. The table was large, almost like a meeting table. Damon was using his attribute to form shadows into furniture. When Unknown had given him this attribute, he probably had no idea how bad Damon would be at using it to its full potential.

"Now then, what do you want to tell us, Paimon?" Damon asked calmly, resting his arms on the table as he turned his attention toward her.

"I think you should hear it from them, since one of them almost died, or should be dead, but still remains here."

Damon glanced at the person she was pointing at, and his gaze fell on Lilith and Renata.

Lilith closed her eyes, her fingers curling into a fist before she spoke.

"Renata got poisoned by an Outsider and almost died. She was going to die for sure, and I had no way to save her."

Damon looked at Renata, who was perfectly fine. She looked better than fine. She was very healthy, without any apparent signs of the near-fatal injury Lilith had described.

"How did you manage to save her, then?"

"I didn’t save her. She was gone, but then... Unknown appeared."
