My Living Shadow System Devours To Make Me Stronger Chapter 1286 - 1287: Sit Down

Damon sighed, then unleashed a faint pulse of his skill, Omen of Dread. A fog of fear swept over everyone, causing them to freeze in terror. Their fear overpowered their rage, and they all fell quiet.
Just because he felt guilty didn’t mean he would allow himself to be stepped on.
Damon blamed himself for all this, so even forcing them into silence caused him to lower his head.
Iris brought them to her tent, which was mostly open, with large remnants of a wrecked house forming the rest of the structure.
"Everyone has been riled up lately. Those who can fight left with Ashcroft. It was phenomenal how he gathered everyone and called them to join the battle. Even those who had been enemies joined him," Iris whispered.
"I wanted to join, but Ashcroft wouldn’t let me. He said I needed to wait here with this cat he gave me. He said this was the second wave."
Damon glanced at the cat. Of course, he knew that wasn’t a cat. It was Maw.
He glanced at the shadow creature and then scratched his head.
"Maw, since when could you turn into a cat?"
"Meow," Maw replied.
Damon grabbed him and whispered, "Purr again, and I will eat you."
Maw went quiet, then put on a flattering expression, rubbing his paws together.
Maw was a being with Extinction-Rank potential. Right now, he was at the peak of the Seventh Class Advancement.
"Don’t tell me you’ve been eating everything that died here."
Maw nodded, raising his paw. Damon could understand him because he had the Soul Tongue skill.
This was a dead world, so it was very edible. Damon had never imagined devouring an entire world, but he wondered if his shadow could devour a world that was already dead. After all, it devoured corpses.
Speaking of corpses, Maw had eaten thousands of them. Anyone who fell, even the Outsiders, had become his food. Right now, Damon could sense that he had many powerful Shadow Drones.
It was as if the more intense the battle became and the more people died, the more food Maw had.
"Oh, I see. So this is what Ashcroft meant by the second wave."
"What are you talking about?" Abellona asked, watching him lift Maw.
"This is Maw. He’s one of my shadows. He has the ability to eat and then create life based on what he consumes. Depending on what he eats, he can customize the type of entity he creates..."
Damon paused, slowly considering the implications.
"Even creating ones affected by the power of the Pillar of Conflict."
Damon looked at Maw, then sensed that the Shadow Drones he had created this time didn’t even have a will of their own. They were powerful, yes, but they were soulless husks without any will.
"Did Ashcroft ask you to do this?"
Maw nodded. Ashcroft couldn’t order him around, but he was inside Damon’s Shadow Clone, which looked like Damon. Maw was scared he would get a beating if he refused.
As for how Maw had ended up in this world, it was just like everyone else. When the world collapsed, the Tomb of Lesser Gods fell into it and was crushed to bits. Everyone died except for a few. Maw had been eating well until Ashcroft showed up and took him away.
What was he going to do, say no to the second fiend after his master? Absolutely not. His abusive childhood with Damon had taught him not to mess with the fiend.
"I did not give you an abusive childhood, you ungrateful piece of shit! I raised you with love and affection!"
Maw realized he had been thinking too loudly and that Damon had heard everything.
He sneered in his cat form, letting out a small snarl.
Abellona placed her hand on her belly and gave Damon a look.
"Abusive childhood? You raised this thing from childhood?" she asked.
"Yeah, something like that. He’s from a race of beings that eat anything. Like I said earlier, they can bring death to an entire galaxy, which contains millions of worlds like ours, by the way."
"How terrifying," Iris whispered. She had been carrying that thing around as if it were a normal cat.
"If that’s the case, Ashcroft must have anticipated what was going to happen."
"Yeah, I guess so," Damon replied, scratching his head.
"In that case, we have to get ready. Evangeline, in the meantime, you can start healing anyone you find. Abellona, I want to tell you to rest, but seeing how you’re glaring at me, you won’t listen anyway. So how about fixing what’s left of my name? I have food and medicine in my shadow. You can go with it and distribute them."
Damon glanced down at his shadow and squatted.
"Hey there, buddy. I know we haven’t been doing much lately, but can you go with her?"
His shadow used to be so animated, but now it didn’t even move. After a moment, it detached itself from Damon and moved to Abellona’s feet, where it waved at her.
"If you reach into my shadow, you can pull out anything I have inside. Oh, and don’t pull out a black book. It has Ashergon inside. On second thought, I’ll just take that."
He waved his hand, and his shadow returned to him. Damon reached out and pulled out the Book of Shadows, where he had imprisoned Ashergon. Damon was more powerful now, so he could keep the shadow trapped using his own power.
"Free me, wretch!" Ashergon roared.
"I will soon."
Abellona and Evangeline left for the camp while Damon remained behind.
He turned his head to meet Iris’s gaze. She was still standing there.
"You want to talk to me, don’t you?" he said calmly.
Iris nodded slowly.
"Yes. I want to know what happened to my father, and I don’t want half-truths or self-loathing. Tell me the truth. I promise I’ll believe you."
Damon took a deep breath, and then the shadows around them formed a table and two chairs.
"You’re going to want to sit for this one."
