My Living Shadow System Devours To Make Me Stronger Chapter 1188 - 1189: All The Reasons
Previously on My Living Shadow System Devours To Make Me Stronger...
Ranar was surrounded by violence and chaos, however, there was nothing she could do to stop it. She ran alongside Ric while they were surrounded by shadow drones.
The city lord had bought the children, yet the other five were left behind.
A shadow drone had found them, so Ric and Ranar went in that direction. Wherever they went, drones and people were fighting.
The drones were not numerous, but they were organized and acted like an army, while the people of the city were masters of fighting armies. They were more savage and furious than ever, and so they came like a violent horde. The more you cut down, the more arrived.
However, the army they faced this time was an army that did not know fear or death, only obedience.
They could not be demoralized or starved.
Ranar found the door and several shadow drones kicked it down. As soon as they did, several armed men with blades attacked them, but they were quickly taken down. Ranar looked into the dark room, and what she saw made her tremble. All across the room were the heads of children mounted on walls, with knives and fresh blood pouring down.
Some children were alive and kept in cages like birds.
Ranar looked dumbfounded for a moment, but she shook her head and looked for her friends. She found them in a hanging cage, and before she could move, Ric had already begun unlocking all the other children.
More men seemed to be coming from the flight of stairs leading inside, and each of them was armed.
The shadow drones rushed in that direction to stop them, and a battle ensued.
Ranar raised her hand and cast healing light over all the children in the chamber.
Then she called out to Ric.
"Let’s go."
He nodded while pulling the fat Beastkin boy called Fat Bear with one hand, with the other children running after them.
The shadow drones didn’t follow them because a man with a bald head and a long scar on his head had just destroyed one of them.
"Razor Head." Ric said it with hatred. He wanted to stay and fight, however, Ranar pulled him away.
"Quick, we have to find my father."
At that point, Damon was still fighting the city lord.
"Get them! Don’t let the merchandise escape!"
Razor Head’s voice drew attention to them. Suddenly, those who were fighting outside turned toward them. Among them were the two huge bodyguards Razor Head kept at the door.
They carried huge cleavers like chefs, but the truth was they were more like butchers.
One of those cleavers was tossed in Ranar’s direction. She turned around and then kicked it back with all her might. The huge cleaver was sent flying by the little ten-year-old girl. At the same time, she raised her hand and sliced down a building with light, blocking their path toward them. She ducked into an alley where Ric had dragged the other children, and two shadow drones came out of the shadows and jumped into the fray.
The two bodyguards must have been more skilled than they looked because the shadow drones didn’t do much against them. They fought for a short while, but the brothers were coordinated and managed to destroy them.
No wonder Damon didn’t like the old models. They were quite weak.
"Which way is out of the city?" she asked one of the older boys, but instead, it was the merman boy who answered.
"That way. We have to get through the central plaza, right by the slave market."
The only problem was that the slave market was crawling with the city lord’s followers, and they would instantly capture them.
However, Ranar made up her mind.
"Let’s go."
She nodded to Ric while behind them they could hear Razor Head’s voice ordering their capture.
Ric gritted his teeth. Razor Head had his sword and his pager, as well as his spatial ring.
He had to get them back. After all, his master gave them to him.
Ranar didn’t know what he was thinking. She was lost in her own world.
"Do I have to kill people?"
That was what she was really afraid of. If she killed people, did that not mean she was no different from a monster?
’I’m going to kill that bastard,’ Ric thought, gritting his teeth and grabbing a sword from a corpse as soon as they reached the central plaza.
Shadow drones were already engaged in battle there. A massive wall had fallen and blocked the path, and the whole place was ablaze with flames. The smell of blood was deep and nauseating, mixed with the stench of burning corpses and human waste.
Ranar was stunned by the madness. It felt like she was the only sane person in a world gone mad.
"Why... why are you killing each other? Why... are we not all people? Why?"
This naive girl did not understand why people fought, why people were cruel, or why they killed each other.
Her father taught her that life was precious, that she should be kind and others would be kind to her. Eva taught her to be fair above being just, to open her heart and understand others before casting judgment on them.
Razor Head came out of the alley.
"Well, well, well... it’s a dead end."
Behind him were three people, the two brothers and finally Gunter.
Ric glared at Gunter.
"You have some nerve showing your face here."
Gunter didn’t say anything. He merely smiled and pulled out his sword.
Ric glared at him, then at Razor Head.
"You have my stuff. You will give it back."
Razor Head lifted Ric’s sword and his pager in his fingers. He wore Ric’s ring.
"Come and get them, then."
"Gladly."
Ric shot toward him, holding the sword he had found.
Ranar gritted her teeth and shot a blast of magic after him.
She did not want this but she would fight to protect ric. That was all the reason she needed.
