Damon took a small step forward, but he suddenly felt Ranar’s hand gripping tightly onto one of his wings. He stopped, and the madness swirling within him seemed to subside slightly. He turned around and looked at her, seeing the fear still lingering in her golden eyes.
"It will be alright," he whispered.
Then he turned toward one of the shadow drones.
"Escort them out of the city."
"Wait, what about Fat Bear and the others?" Ric asked, remembering the children they had traveled with.
Damon paused for a moment before giving a small nod.
"Find them and get them out of the city."
Several shadow drones immediately flew into the air in search of the children. Ric and Ranar followed them, while a large number of shadow drones surrounded them to ensure their safety. The rest charged toward the bloodthirsty residents of the city.
The city lord watched Damon with anguish burning in his eyes. He slowly drew a sword, his breathing calm despite the chaos surrounding him. He raised his hand, and droplets of blood scattered across the ground began to rise into the air, gathering around the blade before being absorbed into it.
Then, with a single swift motion, he leaped toward Damon.
Their swords collided, producing a sharp metallic screech that echoed through the street. Damon’s sword shattered into countless fragments, but he twisted his body to the side and narrowly evaded the slash aimed at his chest. In the same motion, he reached into his storage and pulled out a sword that was only half a blade, broken cleanly down the middle and black as night.
The moment it appeared, countless screams seemed to echo from the blade, as though the souls bound within it were crying out.
This was Damon’s Dealer’s Hand.
It had once been his father’s sword, but after digging it out of his father’s grave, Damon had used it to bind his Dealer’s Hand skill to the weapon. It had become his most formidable weapon, one that could not be destroyed as long as he lived, and as Damon grew stronger, so too did the blade, becoming sharper and more vicious with every advancement.
The blood-red energy flowing from the city lord’s sword began to seep into Damon’s blade. The moment it entered him, rage and madness surged through his heart, causing his bloodlust to intensify.
It was almost as if something had possessed him.
Sharp rings of metal echoed through the street as the two clashed. This was no longer a contest of who was more skilled or ruthless. It was a battle between two men who had spent their lives surviving through violence.
Damon moved his head just as a sharp screech passed beside his face. A streak of sword light tore through the air and struck the building behind him, leaving deep gashes across its walls.
He raised the hilt of his sword and thrust upward, slamming it into the city lord’s chin before swinging downward for a follow-up attack. However, the city lord had anticipated it. He caught Damon’s wrist and raised his sword, preparing to deliver the finishing blow, only for Damon to grab his arm as well.
The two struggled against each other, their bodies locked in a violent contest of strength while the shadow drones and city residents continued battling around them.
Damon suddenly slammed him into a wall, but his own body was far too damaged and weakened from his previous battle. He was fighting at a disadvantage.
The city lord groaned before releasing a burst of magic from his legs, sending Damon flying. The unexpected attack caught him off guard, and before he could recover, he saw the city lord split apart.
Then there were three of him.
A clone or body-double skill.
That did not bode well.
The three city lords attacked from different directions. Damon raised his sword and parried each strike, twisting his body between the attacks before deliberately placing his back against a wall so he could not be surrounded.
He raised his free hand and fired a blast of magic.
The first city lord swiftly moved out of the way, only for Damon’s sword to fly through the space behind him and pierce the body double.
The clone shattered.
"I see. Was that a back-to-back two-shot? Huh. You really haven’t changed. Still using tricks you learned from that elf."
"But you are unarmed now."
The city lord never got to finish.
Damon charged forward with his bare fist.
Just as the city lord swung his sword toward him, a black blur suddenly shot toward his side. He twisted away at the last moment, narrowly avoiding the attack, but that brief distraction was enough.
Damon’s fist connected with his skull.
The impact forced his head sideways, and Damon followed by raking his claws across the man’s ribs, tearing through flesh.
"I knew this was the real you."
Damon spread his wings and swung them forward, the force of the attack sending the city lord flying backward with blood spraying from his body.
It was over.
Damon was simply far more skilled than he was.
The city lord crashed onto the massive steps that seemed to have been built for giants. His final body double flickered before finally disappearing.
Damon slowly walked toward him, his gaze cold.
"You hit my daughter. You’re going to be sorry for that."
The city lord’s mangled face looked even more hideous beneath the blood covering it.
"Y...you will get your penance, Damon Grey. You can’t be allowed to win after everything you’ve done. You’re just like us, human garbage. You don’t deserve happiness."
Damon stood over him.
"That’s not how the real world works. Good or evil, the world simply doesn’t care. There are people who have done far worse things than me."
"And you have committed the greatest sin of all."
"Die and become a nameless corpse."
When the city lord heard those words, he laughed, blood staining his teeth.
"No. I will not. I gave everything. Take it all! I just want to see you dieeeee!"
The moment he screamed those words, the entire city shook
