Damon grapples with the overwhelming power of Ashcroft's fragments, a dangerous gamble for his Seventh Class advancement. Meanwhile, Emilia delves into her deceased brother-in-law Godric's records, desperately searching for clues about her abducted son. Her sister Terra arrives, suggesting a more direct approach and hinting that the mysterious Amon may be connected to Godric, even suggesting Amon could be Godric himself.

When she reached her chambers, Emilia took a moment to calm herself. She stood silently by the door, her chest rising and falling as she steadied her breathing.

Then she took a deep breath and closed the door behind her.

With a wave of her hand, the windows slammed shut one after another. The curtains fell, swallowing the room in darkness as the lamps flickered to life, bathing the chamber in a warm glow.

Only then did she walk toward her bed.

She knelt beside it and closed her eyes.

"I call..."

The words caught in her throat.

For a brief moment, doubt seized her. She still had two guesses left. If she failed, she would lose another chance forever. Yet if she was right, then countless mysteries would finally begin to unravel.

At last, she made up her mind.

"I call upon the Nameless Voice. I beseech you to gaze upon me favorably and hear my call."

She did not know the true name of the voice.

This was not a prayer in the traditional sense, but she reasoned that if she offered it as one, perhaps it would answer.

Suddenly, the lights in the room flickered violently.

Once.

Twice.

Then darkness consumed everything.

Emilia’s fingers tightened against the sheets.

She had been answered.

"I..." Her voice trembled slightly. "I have come to give you a name."

"Name."

The voice repeated the word, emotionless and distant.

Emilia bit her lip.

"The name of the one who stole my child is Amon."

Silence followed.

For a brief instant, she thought the voice would not respond.

Then it spoke.

"Amon is not the name of the one who took your child."

The moment those words were uttered, Emilia felt something leave her. A chance lost forever.

Now she had only two guesses left.

Yet instead of despair, her thoughts raced.

She needed to understand.

Taking another risk, she raised her head and spoke once more.

"I wish to name a second person."

The darkness remained silent.

"Godric Ravenscroft is the one who took my child."

Godric was dead.

Or at least, he was supposed to be.

Still, Emilia needed confirmation.

Whatever the cost, this gamble was worth it.

The voice answered without hesitation.

"Godric Ravenscroft is not the one who took your child."

Another chance vanished.

And yet, Emilia did not feel defeated.

Instead, she felt liberated.

Because the wording had changed.

The first time, the voice had said that Amon was not the name of the one who had taken her child.

The second time, it had merely stated that Godric was not the one.

It had not said that Godric was the wrong name.

It had only denied that he was responsible.

The difference was subtle.

But to Emilia, it meant everything.

The Nameless Voice had wanted her to understand something.

Amon was not his true name.

Godric was not the culprit.

Yet somehow, the two were still connected.

She lowered her gaze, her thoughts spiraling.

"Then Xander gave our child to the one who killed his brother..."

Her voice was barely above a whisper.

"This still ties back to Godric."

The presence of the voice lingered in the darkness around her.

Emilia hesitated before asking one final question.

"Am I right?"

"Is what I’m thinking true?"

She did not know whether the voice would answer.

For a long moment, nothing happened.

Then, at last, it spoke.

"The sun shines with divine power over the Anarchy Mountains."

That was all.

The darkness faded, and the room returned to normal.

Emilia remained kneeling beside her bed, unable to understand what she had just heard.

"The sun shines with divine power over the Anarchy Mountains..."

The words echoed endlessly in her mind.

Damon found himself under the scrutiny of a pair of golden eyes that gleamed like the midday sun.

He awkwardly looked away.

"Can... can I help you, ma’am?"

Standing before him was a girl no older than ten. Her hair shone like molten gold, and her eyes carried the same brilliance.

Even her name carried the meaning of sun and day.

And right now, the way she stared at him made Damon feel as though he were standing beneath the scorching desert sun.

"Ranar, darling, why am I being put on the spot like this?"

She crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes.

"I believe you promised me something."

"And you haven’t fulfilled that promise."

Damon rubbed his forehead.

Right.

He had promised her a friend.

Someone her own age who would not fear her.

Truthfully, he did have someone in mind.

In fact, he thought the two of them desperately needed each other. Left alone, they would probably grow into catastrophically maladjusted adults.

"How about we take a trip together?" he asked.

Ranar’s eyes brightened instantly.

"We might just meet a friend there."

"Really?" she asked, all traces of annoyance vanishing. "Where are we going?"

For all her complaints, she was simply happy to spend time with her father.

---

Inside a vast chamber with towering ceilings, a young boy rode atop a lesser demon with a sword clutched proudly in his hand.

Beneath him surged an endless sea of shadows. Countless shades rose and fell like waves, each one deadly enough to kill any living thing it touched.

"The time has come, friend. Let us ride onward into battle!"

The boy pointed dramatically toward the horizon.

"I am the great Godric, though you shall refer to me as Ric the Great!"

He burst into laughter.

"Charge!"

The lesser demon roared and leaped forward.

A heartbeat later, shadows swallowed both mount and rider whole.

When the darkness receded, they appeared in the throne room.

Damon, or rather Amon, let out a weary sigh.

"Come on, Ricky. Have mercy on my heart. Can’t you play with something that won’t kill you?"

Godric jumped off the demon and puffed out his chest proudly.

"Look! I got stronger!"

With one hand, he grabbed the lesser demon and lifted the creature into the air as though it weighed nothing.

"Did you see that, Master? I took your training to a whole new level."

Damon stared at him in silence.

He truly hated how much of his own personality the boy had inherited.

Worse still, the child feared absolutely nothing.

"So..." Damon began carefully, "want to leave the tomb and see the outside world?"

"NO."

Ric crossed his arms immediately.

"Besides, I heard it’s boring out there."

He pointed toward the lesser demon.

"They don’t even have demon mounts."

Damon shook his head before a sly smile crept onto his face.

"Fine, fine."

"I guess you don’t want to join me on a super dangerous mission into the Anarchy Mountains."

"Oh well."

"That’s unfortunate."

The boy’s eyes widened instantly.

"Super dangerous mission?"

His ears practically perked up.

"How much am I getting paid?"

He hopped down from the demon and walked closer.

"I want new gear too."

He placed both hands on his hips and looked up at Damon.

"Someone has to take care of you, Master."

"You’re getting old."

Damon’s smile vanished.

He clicked his tongue.

"Who exactly are you calling old?"

"I’m still handsome and young."

Ric rolled his eyes.

"Aren’t you pushing thirty?"

The next moment, shadows burst from beneath the throne and wrapped around him before he could flee.

"Wait, wait, wait!"

Damon folded his arms.

"That’s it."

"I’m returning you to your family."

"You’re too much to handle."

Dangling upside down in the grasp of the shadows, Ric let out an exaggerated sigh.

"Adults are so sensitive."
