“Take care, Qiao Yue.” After Qiao Ze spoke, he leaped from the window. Qiao Yue found herself alone in the vast club.
Qiao Yue unlatched a hidden compartment behind a bookshelf and flipped the main power switch. This was her private sanctuary, housing her personal collection of items crafted by numbers 7 through 13.
Among them were a pen, a firearm, and a notebook, all tools of espionage. A flood of fragmented memories returned to her while she was at the Yin residence; she recalled that July 13th marked her mother's birthday.
If her suspicions were correct, her mother had been an operative for the AST organization, and these artifacts were her mother's own designs. After securing these few items in her luggage, she exited the office.
The sudden, intense illumination of the lobby made her instinctively squint. Every light was ablaze, and a man occupied the central seating area, regarding her with a smirk.
“It’s been a while, Qiao Yue.” The man’s lips curled upward as he reached for a glass of champagne. Mercenaries, armed and imposing, formed a cordon around the lobby, their steely gazes fixed on Qiao Yue.
“Andy, a pleasure to see you again.” Wasn't he supposed to be on that cruise? What was his agenda here?
“I’m aware of your mission, which is why I’ve come to find you,” the man explained, idly swirling the glass in his hand. The pale gold liquid danced, catching the light in shimmering waves.
“Knowing my mission, what business do you have appearing so openly? Are you eager for an end?” Qiao Yue casually brandished the pistol she had just retrieved from her suitcase.
“Calm yourself, I merely wish to converse,” Andy stated with a placating smile. “A conversation usually doesn't involve your men aiming weapons at me.” Qiao Yue's gaze flickered coldly over the surrounding mercenaries.
“Stand down,” Andy instructed, his smile not quite reaching his eyes, which remained impassive, like a meticulously crafted mask. “What is it you wish to discuss?” Qiao Yue inquired.
Andy gestured to an empty chair opposite him. “Let’s sit and talk.” Qiao Yue complied, and a woman standing nearby poured her a glass of champagne.
“I heard you’ve reconnected with your family.”
“That’s correct.” Qiao Yue made no move to drink, her focus entirely on observing Andy, attempting to decipher his true intentions. “Does your family approve of you being out so late?”
“This involves organizational matters; I would have eliminated you myself. It has no bearing on my family. You cannot leverage that against me, it’s futile.” Andy let out a soft chuckle and made a mock gesture of surrender.
“I propose a partnership. How about we eliminate Austin together?” Austin? Qiao Yue stared at Andy, caught off guard.
“Don’t act so surprised. Who else could have orchestrated your capture besides Austin?” “What more do you know?” Qiao Yue pressed.
“Remember, I am a Eugene. It’s a rather extensive history,” Andy replied, taking a sip of his champagne before launching into a detailed account of his family's background.
Austin, it transpired, was once the most esteemed prodigy of the Eugene family. He achieved remarkable success in both legitimate and illicit enterprises within D-Country, ascending to the family's leadership at a remarkably young age. However, this ascension irked his elder brother, Andy's father, who harbored ambitions of his own for control.
Driven by this discontent, Andy's father plotted to expel Austin from the family fold. Cast out onto the unforgiving streets of D-Country, Austin proved to be no pushover. He forged connections within the underworld, striking deals with numerous drug traffickers. It was through this illicit trade that Austin rapidly constructed his own formidable business empire.
With his empire firmly established, Austin made a triumphant return to the Eugene family. Simultaneously, his influence began to seep into C-Country, where he cultivated Qiao Yi and Qiao Li as his key subordinates. It was during this period that Su Xun, then known as Yin Xun, entered his orbit, having been employed by the Eugene family.
Later, Austin encountered Qiao Qing at a lavish ball hosted by Qiao Yi and Qiao Li. Qiao Qing, a brilliant engineer and programmer, far surpassed Austin in talent. They initially connected as acquaintances with shared academic backgrounds. Subsequently, upon learning of Qiao Qing's romantic involvement with Su Xun and their clandestine operative statuses, Austin, in a fit of pique, revealed Qiao Qing's true identity to Qiao Li. This revelation led to Qiao Qing's expulsion from the Qiao family.
It was around this same tumultuous period that Qiao Qing discovered she was pregnant with Qiao Yue.
