Qiao Yue balances her life as a reclusive angler with her role as the mysterious head of the KA conglomerate. While enjoying a peaceful morning fishing, she's bombarded with messages from her impatient employees. Meanwhile, a luxurious car arrives in the village, carrying Qiao Jing, who is searching for Qiao Yue on behalf of their grandfather. Qiao Jing finds Qiao Yue by the river, introducing himself and their family connection.

A Bad Taste

The moment Qiao Yue spotted their vehicle, she had already anticipated the reason for their visit. It was, in fact, the very reason she had returned to Nanshan Village.

“Your grandfather sent me to bring you home. Get in the car.”

Without allowing Qiao Yue a moment to deliberate, he turned and departed.

“I haven’t agreed to anything yet,”

Qiao Yue remarked with a light chuckle, her voice remarkably steady.

Qiao Jing’s countenance grew cold as he pivoted to face the young man standing bathed in sunlight.

The young man possessed a delicate, almost ethereal beauty, his eyes shining with an arresting brilliance. A playful curve graced the corners of his lips, presenting an image akin to a pampered young master stepping directly out of an ancient scroll.

“Why?” Qiao Jing, disinclined to prolong the exchange, inquired with a solitary word.

Qiao Yue met his gaze and replied, “Perhaps I’m simply in a rebellious phase?”

While she held no objection to returning to the Qiao residence—her mother’s final words having expressly instructed her to do so—the sight of her second brother’s frigid demeanor stirred a mischievous impulse within her.

Qiao Jing’s brow furrowed at the impish glint dancing in Qiao Yue’s eyes. “What is it that you desire?”

“I merely wish to…”

Before Qiao Yue could conclude her sentence, Qiao Jing perceived an object hurtling towards him.

Though Qiao Jing executed a swift dodge, the driver behind him lacked such agility and was met squarely in the face by a plump carp.

As if to voice its displeasure at its rough handling, the unfortunate fish proceeded to lash the driver’s face with its tail a few more times.

“Qiao Yue!”

A frosty rage settled upon Qiao Jing’s features. Had he not reacted with such alacrity, he, too, would have been in an equally undignified state. This thought only served to deepen the chill in his voice.

Unfazed by his apparent anger, Qiao Yue arched her eyebrows and inquired with a smile, “What is it? Is second brother displeased?”

The deliberate address of ‘second brother’ caused Qiao Jing’s frown to deepen further. He had not yet revealed his true identity, yet Qiao Yue had already discerned it.

After concluding her little prank on the two individuals, Qiao Yue leisurely emerged from the river. She collected her footwear and pail with an air of utter carelessness and ambled towards her home.

As Qiao Yue passed by, Qiao Jing inquired, “Where are you headed?”

Qiao Yue turned her head, and as they drew nearer, she observed that Qiao Jing was, in truth, a striking beauty with exquisitely carved features.

Much like the legendary Prince Lan Ling, whose enemies might underestimate him if he shed his mask, Qiao Jing’s appearance could be similarly deceptive. Were it not for the perpetually cold aura radiating from him, an aura capable of freezing people solid, he would undoubtedly be swarmed by admirers of all ages the moment he appeared.

“Did you not just ask me to go home? I’m going to pack my belongings.”

Qiao Jing had not anticipated Qiao Yue’s swift agreement to return home after their brief, playful confrontation. He studied her intently for a moment before turning to re-enter the car.

Driven by a desire to further tease Qiao Jing, Qiao Yue deliberately set a leisurely pace, allowing the car to trail behind her.

This presented a rather comical predicament for the driver; a luxurious Lexus LM struggled to keep pace with the unhurried gait of an old ox.

Approximately twenty minutes later, they finally reached the vicinity of Qiao Yue’s abode.

The driver alighted from the vehicle, prepared to assist Qiao Yue with her belongings. Despite his personal reservations about this young master, Master Jing’s explicit instruction to ensure his safe return necessitated a show of courtesy.

Just as the driver stepped forward to follow Qiao Yue into the house, the door slammed shut from within, followed immediately by Qiao Yue’s voice:

“Stop pretending. I have no intention of getting close to you.”

The driver, taken aback by either the resonant sound of the door closing or Qiao Yue’s pointed words, turned to Qiao Jing in a daze. Could it be that he had somehow offended the fifth young master?

Qiao Jing rolled down the car window, his gaze fixed with profound intensity upon the humble dwelling of the young man.

“Master Jing, what exactly did the fifth young master mean by that?” the driver ventured tentatively.

“That was directed at me. Pay it no mind,”

The driver’s eyes widened in astonishment. Apart from Master Ze, this was the first instance he could recall of anyone addressing Master Jing with such blatant disrespect. It was truly astonishing!

While the driver remained flabbergasted by Qiao Jing’s placid reaction, Qiao Jing himself was engaged in much deeper contemplation.

Qiao Yue had accurately discerned his background and seniority even before he had formally introduced himself. Furthermore, she had made it abundantly clear that she harbored no friendly intentions and wished no entanglement. This indicated that his fifth brother was far from ordinary.

Qiao Jing adjusted his glasses, lowering his gaze to conceal the cold glint within his eyes.

Qiao Yue’s residence was marked by its profound simplicity and lack of adornment. Beyond a few items of clothing and basic toiletries, it contained virtually nothing else.

Abruptly, the delicate wind chimes hanging by the window, which Qiao Yue had crafted with casual skill, emitted a clear, crisp sound.

As Qiao Yue meticulously folded her clothes, she called out, “Come in.”

In the very next moment, a girl, sporting a short skirt and a ponytail, approached Qiao Yue and picked up a piece of her clothing with an unmistakable expression of distaste.

“Boss, do you still want these shabby clothes? Didn’t you even prepare anything when the Qiao family invited you back?”

The girl wasn’t the only one who arrived. A muscular man stood beside her, his height and build creating a stark contrast with hers.

The man set a bag of items down next to Qiao Yue and remained silent, anticipating the girl’s explanation.

“Boss, these are from Godfather.”

Qiao Yue’s eyebrows lifted slightly as she opened the bag.

Px4Storm, VP9, FN57, AK47, AUG assault rifles...

The more Qiao Yue examined the contents, the more her forehead creased. Was she returning home or heading into a war zone?

Shifting her gaze to the duo, both tall and short, Qiao Yue inquired with a forced smile, “Is Godfather asking me to return and annihilate the Qiao family?”

“No, why would he? Godfather simply… ”

The girl’s voice faltered mid-sentence. Her eyes flickered towards the bag overflowing with firearms, and after a dry cough, she continued, “Well… Boss, Godfather is merely concerned that you might encounter danger.”
