Li Chen discovers a severely weakened Destroyer. The Destroyer, identifying himself as Zhang Shutong, reveals his origin as a law of destruction that gained sentience and a contradictory directive to protect the universe. Despite his destructive nature, Zhang Shutong values his identity and body, even offering a stolen treasure in exchange for his life.

Li Chen’s gaze settled on Zhang Shutong, his expression shifting to one of extreme peculiarity.

What exactly had become of this man?

Li Chen mused that if the World-Destroying Beast were aware of Zhang Shutong’s current state, it would likely be incandescent with rage.

A wry, unkind chuckle escaped Li Chen’s lips as he considered this, given their antagonistic relationship with the beast.

“What are you snickering about?” Zhang Shutong’s voice was laced with indignation as he confronted Li Chen. “Is my current predicament so amusing?”

“Not at all,” Li Chen demurred, waving a dismissive hand. “I wasn’t laughing at you; I was merely…”

“Ah… very well,” Li Chen conceded, realizing the futility of fabricating an excuse and swiftly steering the conversation in a new direction. “While your bodily injuries are indeed severe, I believe I may be able to assist in your recovery. However, should I save you, I seek no material treasures. Instead, you must agree to one condition.”

“A condition? What kind of condition?” Zhang Shutong eyed Li Chen with palpable suspicion. Having cultivated for so long, he was acutely aware of the underhanded dealings often found among cultivators, and Li Chen’s proposition immediately put him on guard.

“Hmm, I haven’t quite decided on the specifics yet. But once I do, you are to fulfill it for me. How does that sound?” Li Chen proposed.

“Absolutely not,” Zhang Shutong retorted without hesitation, shaking his head firmly. “What if, by then, you demand my very life? Am I expected to agree to that as well?”

“Rest assured,” Li Chen quipped, rolling his eyes. “If my intention was to see you dead, why would I expend the effort to save you in the first place?”

“That does hold a measure of logic,” Zhang Shutong conceded after a moment’s reflection, his agreement finally forthcoming.

Li Chen moved closer to Zhang Shutong, observing the peculiar nature of this destroyer, or rather, this newly-minted Heaven Realm Martial Artist.

An Eighth-Rank Heavenly Sovereign, severely wounded to the brink of annihilation – the cause remained a mystery. Li Chen perceived no deception from Zhang Shutong; otherwise, the man wouldn’t be so desperately clinging to his physical form.

Yet, Li Chen found Zhang Shutong’s thought processes to be somewhat unconventional.

Most destroyers, it was understood, were not vulnerable to soul-based attacks, for they lacked a Divine Soul or Primordial Spirit. Their fundamental essence was merely a doomsday beast soul, forged from the very laws of existence. So long as these laws remained intact, they were theoretically indestructible.

As a Seventh-Rank Heavenly Pill Alchemist, Li Chen possessed the means to reconstruct Zhang Shutong’s ravaged body without undue difficulty. A single ‘Body-Continuing Pill’ would suffice.

This potent Rank Seven pill, capable of restoring a shattered physique, commanded an exorbitant price due to its unique properties. The Nine Veins Body Sculpting Lotus also offered regenerative capabilities for a mutilated body, but the Body-Continuing Pill was undeniably superior, as the restored body was typically indistinguishable from the original. In contrast, bodies regenerated by the Nine Veins Body Sculpting Lotus were inherently fragile and prone to collapse.

Li Chen allocated one Body-Continuing Pill for the meticulous reconstruction of Zhang Shutong’s grievously injured form.

Witnessing Zhang Shutong’s body begin to mend in that strangely unsettling manner, Li Chen offered a nod of approval.

This individual was indeed weakened considerably; even with a repaire d body, a substantial period would be required to regain his former strength and prowess.

Truth be told, Li Chen possessed methods that could accelerate Zhang Shutong’s recovery significantly. However, until he could ascertain the full extent of Zhang Shutong’s origins and allegiances, Li Chen was hesitant to act precipitously.

The nature of these destroyers, essentially embodiments of law, hinted at the potential for a higher state through fusion. While this remained a hypothesis for Li Chen, unconfirmed by observation, he believed in its underlying possibility.

Their genesis from the World-Destroying Beast, coupled with the Heavenly Dao’s pronouncements, suggested their capacity to either manifest as myriad beings or coalesce into a singular entity.

If such a phenomenon were indeed possible, Li Chen recalled with a jolt that a soul of law resided within his own miniature world…

“Th-thank you.”

The profound efficacy of a Seventh-Rank Pill was immediately apparent. Not long after ingesting the pill, Zhang Shutong’s body commenced a rapid process of regeneration.

Nevertheless, this regenerative ordeal was evidently agonizing, as evidenced by the beads of cold sweat glistening on his scarred countenance.

Li Chen remained impassive. Such pain, he suspected, was a sensation he understood perhaps more intimately than anyone.

After an extended duration, with his body largely restored through self-repair, Zhang Shutong finally managed to rise from the ground, offering a bow of profound gratitude to Li Chen.

“Let’s depart,” Li Chen stated, his gaze fixed upon Zhang Shutong.

“Depart?” Zhang Shutong’s brow furrowed in confusion. “Do you intend to enslave me, hence your insistence on taking me along? To be frank, with your present level of cultivation, attempting to subjugate me…”

“Will you cease this incessant blathering?” Li Chen’s patience wore thin as he retorted, “If you hadn’t pledged a promise to me, I wouldn’t even consider escorting you. Are you blind? The significant disturbance here will undoubtedly attract the attention of formidable individuals seeking to investigate. If we tarry now, do you wish to face certain annihilation upon their arrival?”

Zhang Shutong visibly startled at Li Chen’s heated words, a dawning realization quickly spreading across his features.

“Then, my sincere thanks.”

Without further ado, Li Chen seized him. A spatial rift materialized beside Li Chen, and dragging Zhang Shutong along, they plunged through it.

Upon his initial arrival, Li Chen had harbored concerns about potential collisions with other vigilant experts already monitoring the area while utilizing the spatial gate. However, in his current act of escape, such worries were cast aside.

The existence of destroyers remained largely a mystery among the experts of the Ancient Battle Realm, although a select few were aware. Should this anomaly within the destroyers be discovered, it could easily ignite another catastrophic conflict.

“Is this… the mastery of space?” Zhang Shutong exclaimed, his senses reeling from the rapidly shifting surroundings, utterly astonished once more.

After guiding Zhang Shutong through multiple spatial shifts, Li Chen finally released his grasp.

“Very well, we shall go our separate ways here. I have other pressing matters to attend to. As for this favor, simply keep it in your heart.” Li Chen offered a casual wave.

“You’re just releasing me? Aren’t you concerned I might break my promise?” Zhang Shutong inquired, disbelief etched on his face.

From his perspective, Li Chen was merely a Heavenly King, yet he so confidently let him go, without any apprehension that he might renege on his word?

After all, once his cultivation was restored, a mere Heavenly King would be no more significant than an ant to him.

“Does it truly matter?” Li Chen turned, a smile gracing his features as he looked back at Zhang Shutong. “To be entirely candid, I never anticipated anything specific. Moreover, in this world, not every action we undertake necessitates a reward.”

“Rescuing you was a decision born from a fleeting impulse, perhaps a consequence of my favorable mood. Had my disposition been less pleasant, I might have ended your life much sooner.”

“I was simply acting according to my own volition,” Li Chen replied with a carefree smile.

“But you have saved someone who possesses the potential to bring about world destruction.” Zhang Shutong let out a soft sigh.
