Lu Fan quarrels with Ou Xuyan about Yi Qiaoqiao spreading rumors that they are not in a romantic relationship. Ou Xuyan accuses Lu Fan of fooling around, which he denies. She insists Yi Qiaoqiao likes him and that her father wants Lu Fan to marry her for career advancement. Lu Fan becomes angry, feeling his abilities and family name are being questioned. Ou Xuyan then blames Yi Qiaoqiao for their troubles, urging Lu Fan to confront her. Lu Fan, however, reflects that he should thank Yi Qiaoqiao as it led to him sleeping with Ou Xuyan, whom he now sees as his woman.

Her hand instinctively moved towards her head, wanting to soothe it. However, a large palm suddenly enveloped her small head, gently patting it twice. In a deep, melodious voice, the man inquired, “You’re only realizing now that I’m quite the handful?”

Ou Xuyan’s cheeks immediately burned as she caught the hidden meaning in his words. She squirmed, attempting to break free. “Lu Fan, you scoundrel, what are you implying?”

Lu Fan drew her closer into his embrace. “What am I implying? What were you thinking about?”

“You!”

“Alright, enough playing around. I have to be up early tomorrow, so let’s get some sleep.”

Ou Xuyan reluctantly wiggled. “Then let me go!”

He had just declared they were going to sleep, so why was he still holding her?

“How about we settle this by…”

“But I don’t feel well. Why are you still hugging me? I want to sleep by myself.”

Lu Fan shifted, pressing his long limbs against her soft, fragrant body. “This bed is too unyielding. I can use you as a pillow.”

Using her as a pillow?

“Lu Fan!”

Lu Fan’s long eyelashes had already fluttered shut. He had fallen asleep.

Ou Xuyan was left speechless. ‘...’

Her only recourse was to close her eyes.

...

The following morning.

Ou Xuyan slowly opened her eyes, finding that she had slept exceptionally well, without a single disturbance. She had anticipated a restless night, perhaps unable to sleep due to Lu Fan’s tight embrace. Having never slept held this closely by a man before, she hadn't been accustomed to it. To her surprise, the man’s arms were wide and warm, providing a surprising comfort, and she had actually slept soundly.

She stirred, intending to rise, but discovered she was still securely within his grasp. Lu Fan hadn't moved at all. The sunlight streamed brightly through the window; it was at least seven or eight o'clock. Why was he still asleep? Had he overslept? Typically, he would be up by five or six to head to the army.

Ou Xuyan gazed at his face. His features were undeniably handsome, possessing a stern, soldierly bearing honed by years of service. His eyebrows were sharp, and his thin lips exuded a subtle sexiness. Undeniably, he was a strikingly handsome man.

The two lay in an intimate position, facing each other. His large frame held her slender body close, and she could feel the steady beat of his heart through the thin fabric of his shirt. Ou Xuyan’s face flushed with a slight discomfort.

She cautiously shifted her limbs, trying to extricate herself from his hold. But the slightest movement was enough to wake Lu Fan.

He slowly opened his eyes, a hint of weariness in their depths. Looking down at the woman in his arms, he murmured lazily, “What time is it?”

“I think… it’s past seven…”

Lu Fan froze, the sleepiness vanishing from his eyes. “What did you say the time was?”

“It’s past seven o’clock…”

Lu Fan let out an immediate curse, then quickly released her and sprang from the bed. As he hastily donned his camouflage uniform, he grumbled, “They say women are troublesome. If it weren’t for you, would I have woken up this late?”

Was he actually blaming her?

Ou Xuyan bristled, her pride wounded. She glared at him. “You’re the one who stayed in bed, and you’re blaming me? Did I ask you to hold me last night? Hey, Lu Fan, could it be that hugging me was so comfortable you ended up sleeping in?”

Lu Fan paused his belt-fastening and turned his head to face her.

The sight of the girl, awakened and resembling a rose unfolding in the morning light, with a trace of dew on her delicate features, looking at him with such playful defiance, stirred something within him. Her unusual radiance made his abdomen tighten.

He had never overslept during his entire tenure in the army. Even as a mischievous youth, he had disliked sleeping in. Today marked the very first time.
