My Celestial Ascension Chapter 964: News About The War
Previously on My Celestial Ascension...
Yuan and his group departed from the border shortly after the allied army’s carriages began moving forward. They were finally going to reunite with their friends and families after such a long time.
The soldiers looked excited, knowing that they were finally returning home after fighting on the battlefield and surviving countless life-threatening situations where they had nearly lost their lives.
Before departing, Emperor Rhex instructed Yuan and his group to deliver the auspicious news to the empire so that its citizens could finally sleep peacefully at night.
Countless people were waiting anxiously for news from the battlefield, and many were terrified about the outcome of the war.
The Undead Legion was a force that instilled fear into the hearts of every person on the continent.
And since their enemy was the King of the Undead—the ruler of the Undead Legion—people couldn’t help but fear for their lives.
After all, once the Undead Legion crossed the border and entered the lands of the living, everything in its path would be destroyed.
—
After traveling for nearly half a day, Yuan and the others finally arrived at their destination—the capital city of the Demonic Empire.
The atmosphere was gloomy and filled with a heavy tension that could not be ignored. Aside from the soldiers patrolling the streets, not a single citizen could be seen outside.
"I didn’t expect things to become this severe. People are so terrified of the Undead Legion that they’ve locked themselves inside their homes," Nerith muttered in a low voice as she observed the city from above. A pained expression appeared on her face.
"The city looks barren, completely devoid of life. In all my years, I’ve never seen this city this gloomy before..."
"This is the first time I’ve witnessed the city in such a lifeless state. I never expected to see such a sight upon returning."
Nerith felt a knot form in her stomach as she witnessed the gloomy atmosphere of the city, with not a single civilian visible on the streets.
The once cheerful streets were now deserted, and even the bustling shopping district was completely empty. The city that was always filled with life had fallen silent, as though a dark shadow had swallowed it whole.
"Let’s go to the palace and deliver the news of our victory to Sister-in-law. She must be worried sick about that idiotic brother of mine," she said to Yuan, letting out a soft sigh.
Yuan nodded in response.
They then landed in front of the palace, and the guards stationed at the gate immediately became excited upon seeing them.
"Welcome back, Princess!"
Nerith nodded and entered the palace alongside Yuan and the others.
"What do you think happened on the battlefield? Did we win?"
"Since the Princess has returned with her companions... I think we must have won the war."
The guards immediately began speculating about the outcome of the war after witnessing Nerith and her friends return.
Nerith led Yuan and the others to a spacious room where Empress Varia was busy handling important matters, accompanied by several maids.
When Nerith saw her, she couldn’t help but reveal a faint smile.
"Sister-in-law, we’ve returned."
As soon as Nerith spoke, Empress Varia froze in place and immediately turned her head toward the voice, seemingly unable to believe what she had heard.
Yuan and the others could clearly see the lack of sleep etched across her face, along with the worry and exhaustion she had been carrying for who knew how long.
’Her condition doesn’t look good... It seems like she hasn’t slept at all...’ Yuan thought to himself.
"Nerith, have you really returned? I’m not imagining things, am I?"
Empress Varia rose from the sofa, her entire body trembling as she fixed her gaze on Nerith. Not only Nerith, but everyone else as well. However, the confusion and disbelief in her eyes were impossible to hide.
’The worry about the battlefield must have taken a heavy toll on her state of mind...’ Nerith sighed softly, feeling saddened that her sister-in-law had been forced to endure something like this.
"Yes, it’s me. Not an illusion," Nerith replied with a smile as she gently held Empress Varia’s hand, allowing her to realize that she wasn’t dreaming.
Empress Varia could no longer hold herself back and immediately pulled Nerith into a hug. For the first time in a long while, she felt a sense of comfort and security.
Nerith couldn’t help but become a little emotional as well and let out a soft sigh.
Once Empress Varia regained her composure, she slowly released the hug and looked at Nerith with a concerned expression, mentally preparing herself for the worst possible outcome.
"What about the war? What happened? Is it still ongoing?"
"We’ve won the war," Nerith said softly, a proud expression appearing on her face.
"We have emerged victorious against the Undead Legion."
"As hard as it may be to believe, we’ve truly won. We’ve finally defeated the Undead King and brought peace back to our citizens."
Nerith’s voice echoed throughout the room, and joy instantly appeared on Empress Varia’s face. She finally felt relieved, as though a massive burden had been lifted from her shoulders.
"I see... So, it really isn’t a dream, huh? We’ve truly won..."
Empress Varia staggered back a step from the overwhelming sense of relief and happiness, a bright smile spreading across her face as she struggled to contain her excitement.
"We defeated the Undead King... T-This is incredible news... So many people have been waiting to hear this..."
The worry that had previously filled Empress Varia’s face seemed to vanish completely, replaced by pure joy the moment she heard the news.
Ever since the war had begun, she had been longing to hear those exact words. Thoughts of the battlefield had occupied her mind day and night without rest.
And now, all of those worries had finally disappeared. She could finally breathe peacefully and allow herself to relax, knowing that the war had come to an end.
"Nerith, I need to announce this wonderful news to everyone. In the meantime, take care of our guests."
After saying those words, Empress Varia hurried out of the room without even waiting for Nerith’s response.
"Well, there she goes... But I’m happy to see her this cheerful again..." Nerith sighed as she sprawled across the sofa, looking utterly exhausted.
Yuan and the others also settled onto the sofas as the maids brought refreshments for them to enjoy.
"I don’t mind it at all... She is the Empress, and it’s her responsibility to inform the citizens about the outcome of the war," Isolde said calmly, fully understanding Empress Varia’s feelings.
—
While Yuan and the others relaxed inside the palace, Empress Varia arrived at the City Square, where the once-empty streets were now packed with people.
The citizens were curious about the Empress’s sudden appearance during such a critical period, and they couldn’t suppress their curiosity.
"What is Her Majesty doing here all of a sudden?"
"Did something happen on the battlefield?"
"Could it be that the war has taken a different turn?"
"Are you saying we’re losing? That’s nothing but baseless speculation!"
"Let’s hope Her Majesty is bringing good news..."
As Empress Varia stood upon the raised platform prepared by the guards, countless whispers filled the air as the gathered crowd tried to guess the reason behind her sudden public appearance.
