Mushoku Tensei: Reincarnated as a Beast Race Chapter 383: 382 - Great, the Strongest Human Is a Fanatic
Previously on Mushoku Tensei: Reincarnated as a Beast Race...
Some time before these developments, at the moment the Ever-White Labyrinth collapsed, Jino, like everyone else, was also ejected outside.
Although the teleportations were random, they generally maintained a certain proximity between those who had been on similar floors.
And on the final floor, there had only been three people.
Jino suddenly appeared in the skies above the endless white desert, in free fall.
"Oh, shit! Aisha's going to kill me!"
The wind lashed his cloak and swept his hair back as he spun through the air. The white sand below looked like an ocean, stretching as far as the eye could see.
Then he looked around.
Directly below, there was a crater.
What had once been the entrance and structure of the Ever-White Labyrinth had become an immense hole.
Jino frowned.
Then he positioned his body like an arrow to fall faster.
As he descended, he observed the result of Saint Milis's magic and muttered:
"What kind of magic can destroy an entire labyrinth...?"
He did not dwell on the question for long.
His battle aura ran through his body.
In the next instant, his senses expanded.
His five senses, everything sharpened at the same time, forming a kind of complete radar of the surroundings.
The wind, the smell of blood, the tremors in the sand, people screaming or fighting in different points of the desert.
Jino quickly sensed everyone's positions.
But unfortunately, he noticed someone very close to himself.
His body fell onto a rocky formation in the white desert.
He landed lightly, bending his knees only enough to absorb the impact. The stone beneath his feet cracked slightly, and the gale coming out of the enormous hole made his cloak flutter.
Strangely, his thoughts were wandering.
"Can this guy destroy one of the Three Great Labyrinths?"
A small smile appeared on his face.
"Hehe... that would be interesting."
On the other side of the gale, a figure began to emerge.
Floating slowly out of the crater, toward Jino, appeared once again the one responsible for such a disaster.
Saint Milis.
Jino's posture remained relaxed.
For now, the feeling his enemy exuded was not aggression. Even though Jino had clearly tried to kill him on the Final Floor of the labyrinth, Saint Milis did not seem to be advancing to retaliate immediately.
Milis wore his full armor.
A milky-white aura covered his body constantly, shining around him like sacred light.
Jino did not know where it had come from, but now a cape was draped over his shoulders, moving with the gale and giving him a very imposing appearance.
Ascalon was pointed downward, held in his left hand.
In his other hand, he carried the priest who had been on the final floor.
Jino's face darkened, but not because of the seriousness of the situation.
"What the hell..." he complained. "Why does everyone have some cool, mystical aura?! Seriously, what's the point here?!"
Milis, who had been serious and solemn, hesitated when he heard that.
For an instant, his gaze lost its rigidity.
But he decided to ignore it.
"Young swordsman," Milis said, his voice cutting clearly through the gale. "You are very powerful. Probably one of the greatest geniuses of your generation among us humans. If not the greatest."
Jino raised an eyebrow.
Milis continued:
"Why are you opposing the God of Humanity and fighting for the Beast of the Apocalypse? Why are you opposing me and fighting alongside those filthy beasts and demons?"
Rather than being angry at having been attacked, Saint Milis seemed genuinely interested.
Even in his own era, he had not encountered humans whose swordsmanship had reached such a level. So, faced with someone like Jino, so young and so powerful, his first impulse was not simply to eliminate him.
He wanted this talented human at his side.
Jino was about to tell him to go fuck himself.
But before he could open his mouth the way he wanted, the white, angelic aura around Milis seemed to take over the surroundings.
The Martial God felt something strange.
A strange and invisible pressure. But it did not feel like a magical command. It was more like an obligation to answer, as though not doing so were some kind of heresy.
Jino answered before he could fully filter his own words.
"What do you mean, why? That so-called Human God is despicable, insidious, and treacherous! Even his own subordinates know that, man. Rygar is better than him in every single way. That's not even a fair comparison!"
Jino blinked.
He did not even know why he was saying everything he thought, since he did not know Milis's powers as the Miko of Transparency. Even so, he continued answering the second question.
"And about the races, man, I'd much rather have been born a dragon or a demon! Imagine living thousands of years and being born with super regeneration. Or even with wings? Now that would be awesome! What's so great about being human?"
When he finished speaking, Jino was surprised he had elaborated so much.
He looked at Milis with suspicion.
"What was that? Some kind of mind control?"
Milis had a surprised look, and even one of pity.
He sighed.
"I understand. You have already been deeply infected by this grotesque and deformed society..."
Milis landed in the desert.
The white sand rose softly when he touched the ground. Then he carefully left the unconscious priest there.
After that, he turned his attention back to Jino.
"Allow me to teach you a few things, my young man. Humans and demons are not equal. The true God of this world is not the god of reptilian beings, winged beings, or monstrous beings..."
His voice grew firmer.
"He is the God of Humanity."
Milis looked directly into Jino's eyes, and his gaze was gentle.
And that was precisely what left Jino unsettled.
There was no hatred or deception in that gaze. This was the expression of someone who truly believed he was offering salvation. Someone who looked at an armed enemy and still saw a wayward soul that needed to be guided back.
Milis opened his arms as if presenting a new truth to Jino.
"Human beings, though they may appear to be born weaker, receive at birth an incomparable gift, the divinity of the soul. They are endowed with intellect and talent that inferior races can never even dream of reaching."
He pointed at Jino, still with a knowing smile.
"Look at yourself, boy... you are living proof of what I am saying."
At first, Jino was more than happy to see him waste time, since every second Milis lost was useful.
But now he was looking at the man as if he were standing before an idiot.
Milis, however, interpreted his silence as doubt and continued.
He extended his hand toward Jino.
"If you wish, I can show you the true power of humanity. Come with me as I carry out the purge of these plagues that dared rise against God."
Jino finally spoke, with a strange look:
"Well, well, well... so this is what happens when a crazy extremist fanatic gets this strong!"
At that moment, a new voice rang out.
"Hahahaha!"
Milis looked to the side, surprised, but Jino did not even bother.
He had already noticed the third person hiding there since he was falling from the sky.
Jumping out from his hiding place and landing a few meters from the two men was Sándor von Grandeur, the Second North God.
He was wrapped in his full golden armor, carrying a golden staff over his shoulder. Only his face was visible beneath the raised helmet, and he was still laughing.
"Haha... that was a good one, kid!"
Milis observed the new intruder with uncertainty for a few seconds, as if analyzing him, and then narrowed his eyes.
Then he spoke slowly:
"I was uncertain what you were... It turns out you are a filthy half-breed."
Jino furrowed his brows.
Sándor, on the other hand, kept smiling.
He tapped the golden staff against his shoulder rhythmically and answered, still with that calm smile:
"The great Saint of Milis... I've heard stories about you! Unfortunately for you, most of them came from my mother, who is a Demon King."
His smile widened.
"I must say, the bad impression demons have of you does not do you justice!"
The tension in the air immediately increased.
Until then, Saint Milis had maintained an almost benevolent expression.
Even when speaking of purges, even when insulting races, he acted serenely, as if he were merely explaining an obvious truth.
But upon hearing Sándor, his expression began to darken.
The white light around his armor seemed to grow brighter.
Milis shifted his gaze between the two.
Jino, atop the rocky formation.
Sándor, a few meters away, with the staff on his shoulder.
The gale coming out of the crater struck all three of them, making Milis's cape and Jino's cloak flutter in the same direction.
Then Milis said:
"I see... It seems you need a small lesson before you understand where you came from, young man."
He turned his eyes toward Sándor.
"Let us begin by eliminating the Dragon God and his filthy subordinates, as well as the repulsive followers of the Apocalypse Beast..."
Saint Milis raised Ascalon toward the sky.
White and golden light emerged from the sword.
Milis's eyes also began to shine.
The light was not merely condensed mana. It was something more mystical, and it seemed to blend perfectly with Milis's battle aura.
The sand near Milis's feet flattened, and small stones began to tremble. The unconscious priest, left behind him, was protected by the white aura itself as it spread across the ground.
Milis continued speaking, now with clear contempt in his voice:
"And once we are finished here, we will continue purging the inferior races that insist on occupying the territory of the Holy Kingdom of Milis!"
In the next instant, the strongest human swung his blade.
Sándor and Jino were already ready.
Both disappeared from their positions.
Sword light covered the skies.
The slash passed above the desert like a white and golden line, far too wide to be called merely a blade.
The rocky formation where Jino had been standing was split apart, and the light continued advancing, separating the desert in two for a long distance.
White sand exploded to both sides.
The range of the strike was absurd.
Even so, Jino did not retreat. Still in motion, he advanced.
His body leaned forward, cutting through the air in a straight line. Amid the white light still sweeping across the field, he drew his sword at the speed of light.
His yellowish-brown battle aura appeared, covering his body, and extended to the blade of Tremor of the Storm.
For an instant, it overpowered Ascalon's white light around him.
"Nine Flying Heavens!"
Nine instantaneous cuts of light shot toward Milis.
They came at the same time, each from a different angle, cutting through the space around the Saint as if a cage of blades had closed over him.
Milis watched the strikes approach impassively.
Then he moved Ascalon.
"Separate, Ascalon."
A deep sound rang across the battlefield, like the hum that precedes an explosion.
The sword cut toward Jino again.
The light of Jino's slashes was simply overpowered.
The nine blades of aura came undone before the white and golden light.
The light reached Jino as if the strike had pierced space itself.
At the final instant, thanks to the Movement Prediction of the Beast God Style, Jino jumped.
But jumping was not enough. If he simply leapt, he would lose his legs.
Jino twisted his body in the air and used a Secret Technique of the Water God Style to divert the white light at the moment of contact. His sword touched the edge of the attack, smoothly sliding the cut of light aside like flowing water.
The light scraped past him.
The pressure tore away part of his battle aura and opened shallow cuts across his skin.
Jino dodged, but the desert behind him suffered the full consequences of the demon-expelling sword Ascalon's power.
Another slash swept across the desert for hundreds of meters, perhaps kilometers.
Jino did not bother looking.
The instant he touched the ground, his body transformed into a streak of light, using Wild Light.
Three white beams pursued him like snakes.
They changed direction in the air, bending after him with staggering speed as he avoided them wildly.
One beam pierced the point where his head had been an instant before, another struck the sand and opened a white explosion.
The third almost reached his back, but Jino predicted it again, cutting it in half with his own counterattack.
While Milis was focused on that, Sándor appeared at his side.
The golden staff came without warning, and to the shock of both of them, struck Milis's face cleanly.
A sharp crack echoed across the battlefield, revealing the internal fracture.
The great "strongest human" was struck directly by the North God.
But he did not go flying as usual. His face merely turned to the side.
The force of the impact swept the white sand around the two of them, clearing the ground in a wide circle. The pressure passed behind Milis and raised a wall of white dust.
Sándor had landed a clean blow with his staff.
Milis spat blood, but he did not fall, nor even stagger.
He simply spat blood and turned his eyes toward his attacker.
His broken jaw began regenerating instantly, the bones returning to place with a crack.
Then Milis tried to grab him by the neck.
And he did so with the speed of lightning.
His hand closed around Sándor's neck.
The golden armor in that region was crushed in an instant by the savage grip. The metal groaned, deforming beneath Milis's fingers.
But there was no blood.
When Milis realized it, all he was holding was a piece of armor.
Sándor had already put distance between them long ago.
"Filthy half-breed!"
Irritated at having been deceived, Milis swung Ascalon toward him.
This time, the strike was not accompanied by attacks of light. It was simply a slash.
But the slash was so strong and fast that it separated the entire rocky formation horizontally.
The rock split as if struck by an invisible blade of wind. The upper half fragmented, shattering into large blocks.
Debris flew in every direction, and white dust swallowed part of the field.
Sándor's voice rang across the battlefield:
"Hey! This guy is one hell of a monster, Martial God!"
Jino dodged another beam of light and landed on a slanted rock.
Sándor continued, still outside Milis's direct line:
"But he clearly doesn't know how to deal with the techniques of the modern Styles! Keep your hidden cards hidden!"
Jino did not even need to hear that. His senses covered the entire battlefield.
He had seen the whole exchange, and he had seen the way Milis reacted to Sándor's disappearance. He had not even predicted the surprise attack.
And besides that, he had easily fallen for a mere trick from the North God Style.
His strength was ridiculous. Jino could almost not believe that a human being possessed that much power, but his reading of modern techniques did not fully keep up with that strength.
The Beast God Style and North God Style focused on observing the opponent's weaknesses, after all.
And the moment he realized Milis had failed to keep up with Sándor, Jino understood his weaknesses.
A joyful smile formed on his face.
After all, he was a master of all styles.
