After her death and betrayal, Mu Hanyan awakens to find herself alive and reunited with her mother, Yue Fanling. Her twin brother, Mu Hanfeng, cruelly mocks her distress before leaving. Mu Hanyan realizes she has been reborn fifteen years in the past, before the tragic events that led to her family's downfall and her brother's death.

Yue Fanling had never before witnessed Han Yan weeping with such profound sorrow. Perceiving that Han Yan must have endured a significant injustice, Yue Fanling felt an even deeper pang of distress. Embracing Han Yan tightly, she gently stroked her back, murmuring words of solace, "Han Yan, cease your tears, my child. Your mother acknowledges the wrong you have suffered. I shall not permit this injustice to pass without retribution." As she spoke, a steely resolve flickered within Yue Fanling's eyes. She vowed that the one who had plunged Han Yan into such despair would never be forgiven lightly.

"Mother, Mother..." Han Yan clung to Yue Fanling, her grip unyielding. Her mother was still here, alive and well. Tears blurred Han Yan's vision, streaming down her face uncontrollably.

"Han Yan, stop crying. I vow to avenge you! Though our family has been relegated to this humble town, we shall not be cowed by the likes of the Zhao Family!" Witnessing Han Yan's heartbreaking sobs intensified Yue Fanling's animosity towards Fourth Miss Zhao and, by extension, the entire Zhao Family.

Han Yan understood that her mother had misinterpreted the source of her tears, yet she found herself unable to articulate the true reason. In that moment, all she craved was the release of weeping. Her mother's warm embrace had always been the most cherished and grounding sanctuary she yearned for.

Meanwhile, Mu Hanfeng stood in the corridor, his countenance as somber as a storm-laden sky, his gaze fixed with icy intensity on the scene unfolding in the courtyard. The chief maidservant assigned to his personal care had never before seen her Young Master exhibit such palpable anger. Undeniably, the cause was the languid elder brother within, who continued to weep.

"Such a useless individual deserves such treatment. Why should the Young Master concern himself with a person of no consequence?" the maidservant ventured, observing her master's evident distress. She sought to offer comfort, reasoning that Mu Rui, the second son, had always held his elder brother in contempt, frequently mocking him. Furthermore, the elder brother was, in truth, a considerable disappointment, constantly casting a shadow of shame upon the City Lord's Mansion. Even the servants harbored a hidden disdain for him. Compared to their own Young Master, he was utterly insignificant.

The maidservant anticipated that her words would appease Mu Hanfeng. However, to her utter astonishment, he turned, his expression chillingly severe, and declared in a low, resonant voice, "Your services are no longer required in my quarters. Return to whence you came. Even if he is as worthless as you claim, it is not for an outsider to bully him; that right belongs only to me!"

With those words, Mu Hanfeng departed, offering no second glance to the maidservant who had collapsed onto the ground. As she was responsible for Mu Hanfeng's daily needs, the maid held a position of considerable influence and respect, comparable to that of a young lady of status. Beyond her respectable monthly stipend, she had now lost everything. Her fall from grace was as precipitous as it was absolute. The maid stared at Mu Hanfeng's retreating figure, her heart filled with disbelief and horror. She could not comprehend why Mu Rui An would treat her with such severity over his elder brother. Hadn't he been the one who most disdained his elder brother? Why this unpitying retribution simply because an outsider had dared to bully the elder brother, a privilege Mu Rui An himself usually reserved? The maid now harbored profound regret, but to what end? Regret offered no solace.

It was common knowledge that Mu Hanfeng and Han Yan were twins, possessing the striking good looks inherited from their parents. Their father, Mu Rui'an, had been a man of considerable charm in his youth and remained a distinguished figure in middle age. Their mother was a woman of exceptional beauty, having captivated many admirers in her time before ultimately bestowing her affection upon their father, leaving numerous hopeful suitors nursing their disappointment. The remarkable attractiveness of the twins was, therefore, hardly surprising.
