Luis and Lily engage in an intimate moment that is interrupted by Leah, who walks in on them. Lily expresses concern about Leah's emotional state and her growing admiration for Luis. Later, Luis and Lily visit Lily's father and his mistress, Suzanne, at the construction site of their new cafeteria, where the family's differing attitudes towards the affair are highlighted.

After chatting for a while, Luis took his wife out on a date.

She had taken the whole afternoon off, so they had plenty of time. They watched a movie, had steak, and then went shopping in a very down-to-earth manner.

"What's wrong? Still upset?"

As they walked through the mall, Luis noticed his wife's slightly displeased expression and said gently.

Lily pouted and didn't deny it. "Yeah, seeing them all busy and happy over there just annoys me."

Luis said with a chuckle, "Honey, I know you're worried about Mom, but she's not as fragile as you think."

"Even if Mom is unhappy, she won't tell us because she doesn't want us to worry."

Lily still felt uneasy deep down.

Luis patted her head affectionately and said with a smile, "You're worrying over nothing. The biggest shareholders of that cafeteria are you and Mom. My father-in-law and his mistress are working their butts off to make money for you guys."

"I hope Mom can be that open-minded too!!"

Lily sighed.

Luis didn't say much more and just accompanied her shopping. They then went to the city's best seafood market, where he said with a smile, "Honey, let's have hotpot at home tonight."

"Let's skip the spicy broth for once. How about something light and nourishing for the baby?"

"Sure!"

Lily beamed. For her, just going grocery shopping with her husband was a warm and happy moment.

She was naturally thrifty and practical, not stingy. She went back and forth comparing prices and haggling, which naturally took more time.

Luis patiently accompanied her, carrying the bags. His wife enjoyed these simple, everyday moments; she was a person who was easily content.

After shopping, they bought a big haul and drove home. On the way, Luis called ahead to let everyone know to come home for dinner.

When they arrived, his little cousin was already there. She'd come straight from school in her uniform, still carrying her backpack, and hadn't had time to change into her clothes.

"Second Sister!"

The little cousin greeted her obediently.

Lily smiled warmly and patted her head. "You got here fast!"

Ariana said sweetly, "Exams are coming up. I'm determined to get into No. 1 High School this year and come to the city. I heard Third Sister was home, so I wanted her to help me study."

"And my brother-in-law is so good at English, I figured he could help me too. My dad practically pushed me out the door."

Hearing that, Lily felt proud. She and Luis had been middle school classmates, practically childhood sweethearts.

She was a little amazed at her husband's excellent language skills, and everyone talked about it. She felt it reflected well on her too.

The existence of the system was beyond ordinary people's belief. In her eyes, her husband spent his nights either working on business or studying, which made her all the more sympathetic.

"Second Sister, are we having hotpot tonight?"

Leah came over too. She was still wearing her nightgown, very casually. She never wore a bra at home, which was likely a subtle sexual signal.

With his little cousin's flat chest, it was hard to tell, but with Leah's youthful face and huge breasts, any movement without a bra made it obvious.

But his wife, mother-in-law, and eldest sister all seemed used to it. Whether they approved or not was unclear, but with his status as head of the household, it had become a habit.

Luis himself walked around in just boxers, and the women found it normal. If Lily, as his wife, found it strange, she'd start questioning her own sanity.

"Yeah, you little gluttons. We bought all your favorites!"

Lily stretched and said softly, "I'm going to change. Tell Mom to come eat when she gets back."

"Then I won't clean up—I'll probably just make it worse!"

Leah stuck out her tongue playfully.

"You two get things ready. No slacking off!"

Lily glared at them, then headed upstairs.

As the sunset painted the sky, Ruth, Eloise, and Serena gradually returned home, and dinner was nearly ready.

They were having hotpot. The broth was made from chicken bones, but the seafood to dip was abundant. The large abalones that went into the pot first were nothing special.

Lobsters and the like were the cheaper items. There was white sea eel and shark meat, large geoduck clams, and other seafood—all prepared in plate after plate.

Leah and Ariana were whispering to each other as they worked, chatting quietly.

When dinner time came, the hotpot was set up in the dining room.

"This broth is really good. So light and sweet."

Before they even started cooking anything, everyone had a bowl of soup.

It was chicken broth made from an old hen. No matter how long you stewed it, the meat would be tough. They'd used a quarter of an eight-pound hen for the broth, and it was topped with a layer of golden fat.

"Eat up, especially you, Lily!!"

Once Luis sat down, everyone started eating.

During the meal, Lily meekly mentioned that the cafeteria at City First Hospital was about to open. Ruth nodded and said with a smile, "Your father told me earlier. I've already ordered the opening flower baskets."

"Mom, you're not upset?"

Leah asked, puzzled.

After all, that was her father and his mistress running a business together. Not only did Leah hate the mistress, but even the other women found it hard to understand her nonchalance.

Ruth gave her a flirtatious glare and said, "Your mother is way past the age of jealousy. I still hold a grudge, but I'm not the type to be fixated."

"The biggest shareholders of that company are me and your second sister. They're working their butts off to make money for us."

"With your eldest sister's mother-in-law looking after that cafeteria business, there's no way they'll lose money. The only question is how much they make in a year—and we get the biggest cut anyway."

She hadn't always been this open-minded. Her mother-in-law wasn't exactly a saint, and initially, she'd been furious.

It was only through the gradual conditioning under her son-in-law that she'd come to this realization. After all, who would turn down money?

Ruth looked at her son-in-law with satisfaction and continued, "Besides, life is good for our family now. With your second brother-in-law around, I don't have to worry about anything. Why bother fighting with her when we have such a good life?"

"Little Sister, you don't need to be so angry at your father either."

"He wronged me, not you. He's never missed a single payment for your living expenses or tuition all these years."

"Our family wasn't rich before, but we never let you suffer or go without. So don't be so childish."

Everyone was stunned. They never expected that the once harsh and volatile Ruth had not only let go of her bitterness but was now advising her daughter, as if she were a completely different person.

Even now, Luis gave the three younger ones five thousand dollars in allowance each month. And no matter how tough things got, Arthur would still transfer a thousand dollars a month to her without fail.
