Shi Mei forcefully kisses Shi Keke after an argument about whose thoughts are impure. Afterwards, he proposes that Shi Keke move in with him to help him solve his impure thoughts, which she refuses.

Regrettably, Shi Keke ultimately yielded to Shi Mei’s formidable pressure. His ultimatum was simple: "You don’t have to move, but if you don’t comply, I can’t ensure that someone won’t stir up trouble when you’re in court."

Shi Keke understood he wasn’t issuing an empty threat. A man willing to resort to murder would certainly not hesitate to commit further outrageous acts.

Moreover, he had never been fond of her career as a lawyer. For one, it frequently placed her in the public spotlight, necessitating dealings with individuals from diverse and often complex backgrounds. For another, recalling the incident on the mountain during the meteor shower, where she was nearly thrown off a cliff, he was grateful he arrived just in time.

In reality, Shi Keke possessed a keen understanding of certain truths. She knew that without significant prestige or status within the legal profession, a lawyer would encounter numerous hurdles. Conversely, achieving renown only amplified the challenges faced.

After all, the path of a lawyer is often perceived as a brutal one, where success is frequently measured by the adversaries and enemies one makes.

Naturally, Shi Keke, who had an unwavering stance against criminals and had won countless cases, had amassed a substantial number of enemies, all of whom harbored a desire for her demise.

Consider Qian Hao: because Shi Keke represented Zhang Er in court, he felt a burning indignation, viewing her as a direct adversary. This animosity ultimately culminated in the absurd situation they were now in.

"What exactly did you do to Qian Hao?" Shi Keke inquired as they drove away.

"Rendered him useless," Shi Mei replied with a placid tone. Even when discussing such a brutal act, his expression remained utterly unchanged.

"Brother, you’ve truly crossed the line this time. While Qian Hao may not be a decent person, he didn’t commit any egregious offenses against me," Shi Keke stated, her brow furrowed. "He has two young children at home; it’s quite tragic for them to suddenly lose their father."

"Shi Keke, your kindness is excessive," Shi Mei remarked coolly. He slowed the car, casting a sideways glance at her. "A man who abandons his wife forfeits his right to be a husband or a father. And have you completely forgotten his words or actions toward you just now? Had I been even a moment slower, do you truly believe you’d still be seated in my car, defending that scoundrel?"

In Shi Keke’s recollection, Shi Mei had never uttered so many words to her, not even when reprimanding her for her mistakes.

This was primarily because he was a man of very few words.

"Brother," Shi Keke softly called out to him, her gaze fixed on his profile.

"Hmm," Shi Mei responded curtly, a faint, cold curve gracing the corner of his lips.

Shi Keke turned her face, observing his finely sculpted features, and a smile bloomed. "You shower me with such affection. Are you attempting to bind me to your side, ensuring I only have eyes for you? That way, you can permanently possess me."

Shi Mei remained conspicuously silent, his expression darkening.

"Your silence is an admission," Shi Keke declared with a smile. She playfully pressed on, "Brother, honestly, have you secretly harbored feelings for me for a long time? I’ve always sensed you treat me rather differently than you do others."

"Consider our young aunt, for instance. When she goes to play cards, you readily permit it, even giving her ample funds, telling her to spend as she pleases if it brings her joy. Yet, when I wish to play cards, you forbid it and instruct my parents to cease all my allowance."

"These contrasting approaches yield vastly different outcomes. One results in: my young aunt generally holds you in low regard, possessing her own wealth and life. The other leads to: me constantly thinking of you, primarily because I’m determined to reclaim my withheld allowance from you."
