Shi Aoju cast an indifferent glance at him and asked, "Oh, really?"
Su Jiuyi sensed that pursuing this topic further would only lead her into a snare, so she shifted the conversation, remarking, "I've heard the foie gras at this restaurant is quite exquisite. I'd like to try it."
Resting her chin on her hand, she toyed with her fork, eagerly anticipating Shi Aoju's response. To her utter surprise, he simply uttered three words: "Not allowed to eat."
"Why not?!" Su Jiuyi pouted, displeased. "Didn't you promise before that you'd grant me anything I desired? How can you go back on your word now?"
Shi Aoju coolly stated, "There was a condition attached to granting you whatever you wished."
"What condition was that?" Su Jiuyi inquired.
"It was contingent upon my mood," Shi Aoju replied.
"Then I won't eat it," Su Jiuyi decided. In her estimation, pleasing him was a formidable challenge. His demeanor was perpetually cold, and any rare smile seemed born of irritation rather than amusement. Navigating the unpredictable currents of his emotions felt beyond her capabilities.
"Then let's depart," Shi Aoju declared, rising to his feet and turning to walk away.
"Oh," Su Jiuyi responded listlessly. She then gathered her bag and followed him out.
As they ambled along, Shi Aoju abruptly halted his pace. Su Jiuyi, caught off guard, stumbled into him, her high heels inadvertently brushing against his chin.
"Sorry, sorry."
Just as Su Jiuyi prepared to step back, Shi Aoju swiftly reached out, grasped her wrist with a firm grip, and drew her into his embrace.
Before Su Jiuyi could process the sudden movement, she felt something hard and cool pressed into her palm.
"Tomorrow morning, Emperor Court Hotel. Be there without fail."
With that, Shi Aoju released her, turned, and strode out of the restaurant with long, decisive steps.
Su Jiuyi remained frozen, allowing a moment for his words to sink in. It took some time before she remembered to examine the object in her hand. Expecting perhaps a coin, she discovered instead a ring.
Her mind went completely blank, leaving her unsure of what to do next. She found another seat, sat down, and stared at the ring in a daze.
After approximately twenty minutes, a sliver of awareness returned. She retrieved her phone, snapped a photo of the ring, and sent it to Qi Jingren with a message: "Shi Aoju just gave me this. Do you think it's an engagement ring or a wedding ring?"
In less than a minute, Qi Jingren's phone call came through.
As she answered, Qi Jingren's languid voice filled the line, "Girl, are you trying to tell me you have no idea what day it is tomorrow?"
"What day is it?" Su Jiuyi genuinely had no clue.
"Unbelievable," Qi Jingren sighed, his voice tinged with exasperation. "You're on the verge of marriage and you don't even know? Su Jiuyi, are you some kind of demon sent to torment me?"
Su Jiuyi: "..."
She was getting married? She was getting married, and she herself was unaware of it?!
"Stop teasing me," Su Jiuyi frowned. "Shi Aoju and I haven't even discussed a wedding date. How could it possibly be set, and for tomorrow, no less?"
"I don't know the minute details, but I do know I received an invitation about a week ago. It clearly stated the specifics. Groom: Shi Aoju, Bride: Su Jiuyi, wedding ceremony at the Emperor Court Hotel," Qi Jingren elaborated.
Su Jiuyi fell silent for a moment, then pursed her lips and remarked, "If this is true, then I must be the first bride in history to be invited by the groom to attend her own wedding..."
