Love You Till the End Chapter 1126 - 1134: Did You Catch a Cold?
Previously on Love You Till the End...
At precisely ten the following morning, Zhao Shuya extended invitations to several companions, gathering at her residence for a round of mahjong, their conversation flowing as the tiles were played.
"Have you made acquaintance with Sun Zhihao? He holds the position of CEO at the Sun Group." Zhao Shuya, having secured a winning hand, found her spirits elevated, prompting her to initiate a new topic of discussion.
"I possess a faint recollection, though I am not intimately acquainted," replied one of the ladies present.
"I am familiar with him. My spouse has engaged in certain business ventures with him, and they interact periodically. I was made aware that he recently concluded his divorce," offered another participant, subsequently inquiring of Zhao Shuya, "What prompted this sudden mention of him?"
"Ah, it is nothing significant, merely a passing remark," Zhao Shuya ultimately resolved to keep her counsel.
The reason for her reticence stemmed from Su Zhenxiong's prior admonition: it was advisable to withhold this information until a successful marital arrangement was finalized, thereby preventing any potential detriment to the Su Family's standing. While the matter itself was not inherently scandalous, widespread discussion could very well give rise to unforeseen gossip.
Su Jiuyi had been observing Zhao Shuya's demeanor from upstairs for a considerable duration; it was evident that positive news indeed bolstered one's mood. Under normal circumstances, Zhao Shuya found it difficult to accept defeat, often lamenting even minor losses for the remainder of the afternoon.
However, the present day presented a stark contrast. In less than sixty minutes at the mahjong table, she had incurred losses exceeding five hundred, yet a smile remained etched upon her face.
Naturally, Su Jiuyi was privy to the source of Zhao Shuya's cheerful disposition; she offered an indifferent shrug before turning to descend the stairs, heading towards the kitchen in search of sustenance.
It was not that her appetite was substantial; rather, the household staff frequently overlooked her during meal preparations, a consequence of her infrequent presence at home, which invariably led to a diminished portion being allocated.
Although Su Manning had expressed a willingness to cede her own portion to Su Jiuyi, the latter consistently declined. She harbored a distinct aversion to accepting handouts, preferring instead to rely on her resolute nature to deflect external offers.
Upon entering the kitchen, Su Jiuyi proceeded to pour hot milk into a saucepan, incorporating a measure of oatmeal. After bringing the mixture to a boil, she added sweetener before transferring it into a cup. She then retrieved a slice of bread to accompany her milk.
Leaning against the warmth of the stove, she partook of her meal while preoccupied with her mobile device, contemplating that she had yet to update Shi Aoju on her current circumstances. Consequently, she drafted a message and dispatched it.
-- -- Did you manage to have breakfast punctually this morning? Are you currently occupied with a meeting?
Having been in a relationship with Shi Aoju for an extended period, Su Jiuyi had developed a comprehensive understanding of his daily routines and professional habits. Due to his demanding work schedule, he often found himself neglecting his breakfast. At this particular hour, it was highly probable that he was already at his office, engaged in a conference.
Aware that a text message sent at this juncture might elicit no immediate response, she nevertheless felt compelled to send it.
Shortly after the successful transmission of her message, Su Jiuyi set her phone aside. However, at that precise moment, her device vibrated.
She retrieved her phone to examine it, noting an incoming call from Shi Aoju. With haste, she accepted the call, inquiring, "Hello."
"I fell asleep whilst sending you a message last night," Shi Aoju immediately offered, explaining his lack of response the previous evening.
"Have you perhaps caught a cold?" Upon hearing the raspiness in his voice, Su Jiuyi instinctively disregarded all other concerns, her sole focus directed towards the cause of his hoarse tone.
"No," Shi Aoju responded casually, endeavoring to modulate his voice to sound as unaffected as possible, thus concealing the fact that he had indeed contracted a cold from sleeping beneath the continuous blast of the air conditioning throughout the night, his hair still damp. Truthfully, his exhaustion the previous night had been profound, leading him to fall asleep with his phone still in hand, remaining in that state until daybreak.
"That is reassuring to hear," Su Jiuyi conveyed, a wave of relief washing over her. "Your room's air conditioning is consistently set to an excessively low temperature and operated throughout the night; it is quite easy to fall ill under such conditions."
Shi Aoju offered a faint smile, his previously somber gaze gradually softening, and even the corners of his lips upturned in a gentle curve.
