Yet, he swiftly grasped that Zhang’s Ruins represented the final sanctuary for Rogue Cultivators such as themselves. Though it held no remarkable qualities, it stood as their ultimate haven in the end.
With even this modest territory now denied to them by the Supreme True Buddha, they were left with no alternative except to battle desperately, staking everything.
With that realization, as he observed the array overhead at Zhang’s Ruins slowly crumbling under the combined strikes from those Arhats, he refused to delay. He morphed into a streak of pristine white light and surged upward at once, confronting a Bodhisattva and plunging directly into fierce combat.
Witnessing Cheng Lianzi and Yin Tianzhi battling with such fierce determination, the rest felt a surge of motivation.
In a flash, their figures blurred into beams of light, and they all rushed forward against those monks.
Beyond Zhang’s Ruins, the young monk observed the unfolding scene with a touch of concern, glancing toward the Western Great Bodhisattva:
"Master, these Rogue Cultivators don’t appear as feeble as we thought."
Upon hearing the young monk’s remark, the Western Great Bodhisattva maintained his merciful visage, yet a flicker of astonishment appeared in his eyes while surveying the battle below, which proved far from a total rout as anticipated, and he responded with mild intrigue:
"Our earlier scouts reported that inside Zhang’s Ruins, they clashed like loose grains of sand. Even if cautious of us, they shouldn’t unite this fluidly. Peculiar—has something shifted lately?"
Though perplexed, he paid it little mind.
Zhang’s Ruins served as a famed hub for Rogue Cultivators in the area. It could conceal hidden experts and lurking threats, making minor hurdles unavoidable.
Still, this stemmed from the Supreme True Buddha not regarding them as genuine foes. If he grew earnest and dispatched reinforcements, victory would come with ease, he believed.
After brief reflection, assessing the power on display from Zhang’s Ruins, the Western Great Bodhisattva gave a faint head shake and declared:
"Hold steady, just observe their efforts."
The young monk observed a bit longer, then creased his brow and commented:
"Master, I feel this Wisdom Calm Bodhisattva... shows excessive arrogance."
At those words, the Western Great Bodhisattva’s features tightened a fraction, and he chided softly:
"Mind your words."
His eyes scanned the Wisdom Calm Bodhisattva clashing with Cheng Lianzi. There, he brandished three Buddha treasures, summoning a four-headed, eight-armed Dharma Aspect that unleashed a furious onslaught on Cheng Lianzi, his expression revealing a concealed savagery beneath the kindly mask, cackling madly without any trace of monastic poise.
He found himself furrowing his brow lightly, then murmured:
"Keep silent in company. Should he rise to Buddha Lord someday, it could spell trouble for you. Better to watch in silence, hold your tongue."
The young monk promptly sealed his lips, but after another glance, he couldn’t resist adding:
"Master, caution is wise. Wisdom Calm Bodhisattva’s overconfidence might breed unexpected issues..."
On this occasion, the Western Great Bodhisattva stood firm, denying it with a head shake:
"Fear not, the outcome is sealed—no surprises will arise."
While they conversed, as Wisdom Calm Bodhisattva pinned Cheng Lianzi down with three Dao Treasures, his manic laughter still echoing, a rod burst suddenly from the adjacent void, crashing down with crushing force!
Deep in the fray, Wisdom Calm Bodhisattva faced the assault unprepared. Though his Protective Treasure Light ignited at once, it shattered instantly, allowing the rod to slam right into his brow!
In that moment, the Golden Body at his forehead split open, and waves of demonic aura erupted outward.
Fissures spread rapidly from the brow’s wound, igniting a brief crimson gleam in Wisdom Calm Bodhisattva’s gaze.
Observing this, the Western Great Bodhisattva creased his forehead faintly, then let out a sigh:
"How unfit for a prospective Buddha Lord?"
His attention shifted to the rest, where he saw the other Buddha’s son hopefuls managing the surrounding assaults from the cultivators without falter.
They lacked brilliance but committed no errors, earning his subtle nod as he mentally dismissed Wisdom Calm Bodhisattva.
At the same time, the Black Gold Mixed Iron Rod, erupting from the void, battered Wisdom Calm Bodhisattva and hurled him backward, while a Demon Ape vaulted forth from emptiness, gripping a lengthy rod, and pursued him with savage fury!
As the Demon Ape emerged, the Western Great Bodhisattva, brow furrowed, detected a faint noise in his hearing, turning with some surprise to the nearby void:
"Northern Great Bodhisattva?"
Lacking time for deeper consideration, he watched the ape charge from the void, rod in hand, hounding Wisdom Calm Bodhisattva with unyielding blows. Every swing of the iron rod summoned myriad phantom rods in the emptiness, demolishing Wisdom Calm Bodhisattva’s Golden Body in a heartbeat.
The four-headed, eight-armed Dharma Aspect got utterly pulverized!
Yet Wisdom Calm Bodhisattva, selected as a Buddha’s son contender, possessed exceptional prowess, hastily calling forth three Dao Treasures to shield himself just barely.
At the sight, Cheng Lianzi swiftly invoked a Fire Stone, pressing the attack!
Blazes roared skyward, compelling Wisdom Calm Bodhisattva to unleash his three Dao Treasures in retaliation.
With the three Dao Treasures committed, the ape’s iron rod assaults came fast and furious, denying Wisdom Calm Bodhisattva any escape. Within seconds, a limb of the Dharma Aspect snapped under the pressure, accompanied only by Wisdom Calm Bodhisattva’s agonized screams.
This brutal assault stunned the nearby cultivators and monks alike.
The Western Great Bodhisattva’s countenance grew somber, his recent assurance to his new pupil undermined by Wisdom Calm Bodhisattva’s evident thrashing, stirring deep irritation. Yet, more restrained than his fellow monks, he masked it well, his face serene as he quietly directed those beside him:
"Head over and support Wisdom Calm Bodhisattva."
