Longevity, starting from being a chicken raising servant Chapter 2269: 157: Fallen Soul (Part 3)

Previously on Longevity, starting from being a chicken raising servant...
Wang Ba and his companions journey into the treacherous region of Soul Falling, where the environment suppresses the rules mastered by early-stage Tribulation-Transcending cultivators. As sinister winds cause spirits to drift from their bodies, the group is forced to close their five senses to survive the auditory illusions. Wang Ba, relying on his robust foundation, remains alert and suddenly intervenes when True Man Ba is blindsided by a hidden threat. Capturing a half-real, half-illusory creature resembling a black fox, Wang Ba demonstrates a level of perception that shocks his peers and leaves the group leader wary of his true strength.

“It is merely a rare breed of Demonic Beast. I simply happen to possess a bit of knowledge regarding the Beast Taming Technique…”

While speaking, he rotated his palm and smoothly took custody of the Black Fox. He then cast an apologetic gaze toward True Man Ba, gesturing with a remote salute:

“I failed to follow your guidance just now and nearly caused a disaster. I hope you can overlook my oversight, Taoist Brother.”

Observing Wang Ba’s humble demeanor, the surrounding Cultivators could not help but wear strange expressions.

This True Man Ba harbored no malice; he had even rescued a fellow Cultivator’s Primordial Spirit from scattering earlier. However, his abrasive personality and volatile temperament made it difficult for those present to truly tolerate him.

Had they not been so unfamiliar with this region and reliant on True Man Ba’s limited knowledge, the group likely would have abandoned him long ago.

Just now, True Man Taiyi had acted from afar to seize the savage beast, which had effectively slighted True Man Ba’s earlier warnings. Given True Man Ba’s usual disposition, even if True Man Taiyi offered a compromise, it was expected that the former would not accept it easily.

Some onlookers watched the scene in silence, while others knit their brows, preparing to step in and mediate the conflict.

True Man Ba descended directly in front of Wang Ba. His eyes were piercing as he inspected Wang Ba, but then he suddenly broke into a loud, boisterous laugh that startled the other Cultivators:

“Excellent!”

“Taoist Friend Taiyi has been hiding his strength so well that I didn’t even notice. I have certainly made a fool of myself.”

“As for the talk of causing trouble, there is no need to bring it up. With your level of skill, my words were unnecessary. On the contrary, I ought to thank you for helping me avoid a potential threat.”

After finishing his sentence, he formally bowed toward Wang Ba, offering an apology for his previous conduct.

Wang Ba was taken aback. Hearing the man's tone, it didn't seem as though he was being sarcastic, so he politely returned the salute.

The crowd watched as this potential storm vanished without a trace, and everyone let out a collective sigh of relief.

The penny-faced Cultivator, who had previously cautioned Wang Ba, gave a small laugh and remarked:

“True Man Ba, this area remains treacherous. We should continue our journey quickly.”

True Man Ba’s brow furrowed slightly as he glanced at the penny-faced Cultivator. His tone was not nearly as friendly as it had been with Wang Ba, turning somewhat icy:

“I am aware. Just keep up with the group!”

The penny-faced Cultivator was caught off guard, left momentarily stunned by the sharp response.

True Man Ba then turned back to Wang Ba with a harmonious smile and said:

“Taoist Friend Taiyi, I shall resume the lead at the front. You and Taoist Friend Nie should remain in the center. If any danger arises, I ask that you intervene when necessary.”

This blatant difference in treatment left Wang Ba feeling somewhat confused, yet he simply nodded:

“I shall do my utmost.”

Earlier, he had suspected this man was only showing kindness because of some ulterior motive regarding True Man Nie.

It appeared now that True Man Ba simply reserved his courtesy for those he deemed to be in a similar realm of power.

Wang Ba felt slightly moved by the realization.

Nevertheless, he did not allow any feelings of arrogance to take root because of this recognition.

True Man Ba went back to leading the way, and the rest of the group followed closely behind.

Within the infinite darkness, bizarre noises rose and fell at intervals. Perhaps because Wang Ba had subdued the Black Fox, these sounds no longer drew near, merely echoing faintly from the distance.

Before long, a turbulent sea of surging waves composed of Chaos Origin Substance finally entered their field of vision.

Deep within that Chaos Origin Substance, a massive, ink-black shadow could be faintly discerned.

“It is the Realm Embryo!”

Someone spotted the enormous dark silhouette and cried out in astonishment.

Wang Ba also followed the direction of the voice, his eyes narrowing as he made out the hazy silhouette of the Realm Embryo.

It was pulsating at a slow rhythm, appearing to breathe the surrounding Chaos Origin Substance in and out!

Wang Ba felt a spark of interest and reached out his hand, intending to gather some of the nearby Chaos Origin Substance to nourish his Spirit Beasts.

Suddenly, True Man Ba’s voice rang out:

“Do not touch that Realm Embryo, and stay away from it! A terrifying creature is concealed within that Realm Embryo; even Cultivators at the late-stage of Crossing Tribulation would meet a grim fate!”

A cold shiver ran down Wang Ba’s spine. He remembered encountering a Realm Embryo during his initial travels with the Little Cang World. He had sensed a threat then and dared not approach; it was likely similar to this one, serving as a nest for a fierce entity.

The creature inside this particular Realm Embryo was far too well-hidden. Without True Man Ba’s warning, he never would have sensed it and might have drawn closer out of curiosity.

The potential consequences of such an action filled him with a sense of lingering dread...

Fortunately, True Man Ba seemed to have traveled this path before. After a short period of further trekking, they finally came to a halt at a location as dark as the deep sea.

Wang Ba surveyed the surroundings and felt his spirits lift.

In this exceptionally tranquil pocket of the void, dozens of vortices of varying magnitudes were slowly rotating...
