Zhao Hai responded without delay, "Of course. As a disciple of the Blood Massacre Sect, how could I refuse to assist when the Sect faces difficulties? Uncle-Master, please do not worry; I am ready to depart and provide aid immediately." Zhao Hai gave his consent instantly. Regardless of the circumstances, his identity was now rooted in the Blood Massacre Sect. If the Sect was in peril, it was only natural for him to lend his strength. Furthermore, his mission involved supporting the islands across the West and Northwest Sea regions. These locations shared the same defensive perimeter as his own Blood Gale Island. Providing assistance now meant securing future allies; by doing these islands a favor today, he ensured they would be more likely to support him later.
In truth, Zhao Hai felt a certain disdain for cultivators who only looked out for themselves. Being part of a Sect was different from being a rogue cultivator. The Sect provided protection, Cultivation resources, and secret techniques. In return, as long as one contributed their findings, the Sect offered rewards. To him, this was a fair arrangement.
He couldn't understand those who hoarded every benefit for themselves while retreating the moment the Sect required their loyalty. Why would any Sect keep such a disciple? A Sect isn't a charity looking for freeloaders. This was why Zhao Hai looked down on those selfish individuals who only took without giving back. Such people were destined to be discarded by their Sect eventually.
Self-centered people often pride themselves on being clever, thinking they are successfully exploiting others. They fail to realize that their actions are transparent to everyone. Could the high-ranking Elders overseeing tens of thousands of disciples really be less perceptive than them? The leadership knows exactly who is loyal and who is parasitic. If a disciple offers nothing and expects everything, why would the Sect continue to treat them as one of their own? Even a person's own parents would eventually tire of such behavior.
Consequently, Zhao Hai accepted Lei Xuan’s request without hesitation. He understood that by restoring the mountain-protecting formations of these islands today, he was building a debt of gratitude. When the time came that he needed reinforcements, those people would be obligated to help him.
Lei Xuan nodded approvingly at Zhao Hai’s response. "Excellent, I am glad you agree. Let’s do this: head to Blood Bone Island first. You already have a good rapport with the people there, don't you? Start by helping them fix their formation. Blood Bone Island serves as a vital anchor for our entire line of defense."
Zhao Hai acknowledged the command and turned back to Lei Xuan. "Uncle-Master, I shall depart now. If there are further instructions, please notify me at once; I will respond immediately." Lei Xuan gave a final nod as Zhao Hai bowed and exited the room. He made his way straight to the teleportation formation. Every cultivator he encountered along the path greeted him, and Zhao Hai returned each gesture with genuine politeness.
Upon reaching the teleportation array, Zhao Hai traveled to Blood Bone Island. Stepping off the platform, he took a moment to observe his surroundings. This island was significantly larger than either Blood Wind Island or his own Blood Gale Island. While the population of cultivators was dense, he noticed many were new arrivals, and an air of palpable frustration seemed to hang over them.
As Zhao Hai was scanning the area, a loud, hostile voice rang out. "Who goes there? What business do you have on Blood Bone Island?" Zhao Hai turned to see a cultivator standing near the edge of the teleportation square. This man was also in the Spell Essence Realm, specifically at the third level, which was a step above Zhao Hai’s current stage. He appeared to be a Pro-disciple from another island who had likely been stationed here. His aggressive tone suggested he felt entitled to challenge newcomers, especially since Zhao Hai’s outward Cultivation level didn't immediately reveal his status as a true disciple.
Zhao Hai sensed the hostility wasn't specifically personal. He didn't take offense, merely offering a faint smile as he cupped his fists. "Senior Brother, I am Zhao Hai. I have come to see Senior Brother Yan Bei. Could you perhaps tell me where I might find him?"
The cultivator was momentarily stunned by Zhao Hai’s courtesy. Then, a realization struck him. He stared at Zhao Hai and blurted out, "You are Zhao Hai? The one they call the weakest Island Lord in history?" It was clear the man had heard the rumors surrounding Zhao Hai's promotion.
Zhao Hai was briefly surprised before letting out a chuckle. "I didn't realize my reputation had spread so far. Indeed, I am that Zhao Hai, the Island Lord with the lowest Cultivation level. I am looking for Senior Yan Bei; would you happen to know his location?" Zhao Hai remained calm; he wasn't the type to get worked up over such trivialities.
Once the man confirmed Zhao Hai’s identity, his attitude shifted instantly toward respect. Despite the "weakest" label, Zhao Hai had attained his rank through immense merit and contributions to the Sect, earning the favor of several Elders. Offending such a person was unwise. The man quickly replied, "Ah, so it is Junior Brother Zhao Hai. You are seeking Senior Brother Yan Bei? He is currently at the Blood Bone Courtyard in the island's center. Only the Island Lord and Senior Yan Bei reside there. He should be in right now; shall I guide you?"
"I wouldn't want to impose on your time, Senior Brother," Zhao Hai said quickly. "I can find my own way. Farewell!" He cupped his fists again and departed. The other cultivator returned the gesture, feeling a sense of relief and satisfaction. He had expected an Island Lord to be arrogant, but Zhao Hai’s humility left a very positive impression.
Zhao Hai continued toward the center of the island, asking for directions until he reached the gates of the Blood Bone Courtyard. Finding the gates shut and unguarded, he felt a bit curious but proceeded to knock gently.
"Who is it?" a voice barked from inside. Zhao Hai recognized it immediately as Yan Bei, though it was laced with a thick layer of irritation. Zhao Hai wondered who could have possibly provoked his friend to such anger.
"Big Brother Yan, it's me. Open up," Zhao Hai called out. Knowing Yan Bei would recognize his voice, he didn't bother using his full name. This was the casual way close friends spoke to one another.
Yan Bei’s tone shifted instantly. "Little Hai? What are you doing here?" The gate swung open, revealing an excited Yan Bei. "Come in, quickly! Master was just talking about wanting to see you. I didn't expect you to just show up. This is perfect."
Zhao Hai smiled and walked into the courtyard without further ceremony. As they walked, he asked, "Big Brother Yan, you sounded quite furious just now. What’s the matter? Has something happened?" Given their friendship, Zhao Hai was more than willing to help if Yan Bei was in trouble.
Yan Bei’s expression soured again. He let out a frustrated snort. "It’s infuriating. Blood Bone Island is currently the most critical point in the defense line, yet the Formation Hall experts sent by the Sect haven't prioritized us. They’ve gone to other islands first to fix their arrays. Everyone here is fuming about it, myself included. Why should we be last? Is our island not important?"
Zhao Hai couldn't help but chuckle. "Is that all? Perhaps the Sect left this island for last because they trust in your strength. The other islands are much more vulnerable; without their formations restored, they wouldn't stand a chance in an attack. Actually, I’m here for that very reason. My Uncle-Master is stationed at Blood Wind Island, and I just finished restoring his formation. He was impressed and sent me here to help you with yours. However, I must speak with Island Lord Gu first. If he doesn't trust my skills, then I'll be on my way."
"Hahaha! Zhao Hai, you've got some nerve talking about me like that! Do you want me to punish you? Get in here right now!" A booming laugh erupted from the main building. Zhao Hai and Yan Bei hurried inside to find Gu Na seated in the central hall. Zhao Hai immediately stepped forward to pay his respects.
Gu Na looked Zhao Hai over and nodded with approval. "Good lad. Xiao Bei has told me all about your exploits. You’ve done exceptionally well. So, you’re here to fix our formation? I’ll have Xiao Bei assist you. If anyone gives you trouble, I’ll deal with them personally. If you need materials, tell me now and I'll have them gathered."
Gu Na was a blunt, straightforward man who didn't care for pleasantries. His immediate acceptance showed he trusted Zhao Hai completely. Touched by this confidence, Zhao Hai replied, "Island Lord, I don't need much, but I will require a few powerful Dark Souls. When I set up the array, I can refine them into the structure. It will make the formation stronger and much easier to manage."
"Don't call me Island Lord. From now on, call me Uncle-Master," Gu Na corrected him. "You’re like a brother to Little North; being formal makes us sound like strangers. How many souls do you need? I have about a dozen on hand, and they aren't weak. If you need more, I'll find a way to get them!"
