Dugu Xiu, born with the blood of the Black Qilin, was favored by Emperor Qin but knew his true lineage. He believed strength was paramount and sought to be the best, until he met Yun Sheng. Initially disliking her, he grew to desire her but was thwarted by Ye Beiming. After capturing Yun Sheng, he rejected her plea for lifelong devotion. His ambition led him to merge with Black Qilin King Ye Xiu, becoming supreme ruler but finding only loneliness. He sacrificed himself to save Yun Sheng from Ye Xiu, and now, beside the Heavenly Fox Tomb, he reflects on his life and regrets losing Yun Sheng, understanding too late the meaning of true devotion.

For thousands of years, the continent has been debating whether mages or martial artists are stronger.

This debate is akin to the never-ending struggle between the Human Clan and the Beast Clan on the Wuji Continent.

At the far west of the Wuji Continent lies a great desert.

The desert is scorching hot all year round, barren of any vegetation. Legend has it that those who got lost in the desert had to resort to hunting down their companions and drinking human blood to survive and find their way out. Hence, this desert is also known as the Blood Drinking Great Desert.

On the outskirts of the desert, there are several Human Clan villages that rely on sparse water sources and local agriculture to lead extremely arduous lives.

This year’s summer has brought the driest season for the entire desert, even the deepest well in the village can’t offer a single drop of water.

Beside the well, a woman with yellowed hair bent over, trying to draw some water from the well.

"Mother, Niuniu is so thirsty." A five or six-year-old girl beside the woman was unbearably thirsty; she clung to the woman’s leg and began to cry.

"Niuniu, don’t cry. There’s no water left in the well." The woman’s throat was dry and burning too, but what could she do? Every solution the village had tried had failed to yield even a drop of water.

If this continues, it won’t just be the children and the elderly; even the adults won’t make it.

Already, some neighbors couldn’t bear it any longer and had resorted to killing their livestock and drinking their blood to quench their thirst. The woman’s eyes were full of sorrow.

"Little girl, don’t cry. Here’s fresh water." A voice as sweet as a spring landed like heavenly music, and a hand as white as porcelain extended towards them.

The woman looked over, and amidst the dazzling sunlight, she saw two young girls, one dressed in white and the other in pink.

The speaker was the young girl in white, who was wearing a dust-proof veil. She was holding a water bag in her hand.

Because of the veil, the woman and Niuniu couldn’t see her face clearly, but the girl had autumn-water bright eyes that were unforgettable at a single glance.

Seeing the water, Niuniu unabashedly took it. After taking a sip, she carefully stopped.

"Big sister, can I share the water with others?" Niuniu licked the water droplets off her lips, restraining the urge to drink more.

"Of course you can. The water I give you is yours now." The girl in white looked at Niuniu’s manner, feeling both heartache and affection.

Such an understanding child.

"Thank you, pretty big sister." Niuniu said sweetly.

"Little girl, your mouth sure is sweet, but you haven’t seen what we look like. How do you know we are pretty?" The girl in pink beside her raised her beautiful eyes with a hint of amusement in them.

"My mother said good-hearted people are always pretty." Niuniu said as she passed the water bag to her mother, who shook her head, indicating she wasn’t thirsty.

"Madam, the town’s wells are dried up. Haven’t you found a new water source?" The girl in white noticed the woman’s cracked lips from holding back thirst and frowned slightly.

"It’s not that we’re not looking; it’s that we can’t go find it. Recently, there’s been..." The woman glanced at the attire of the two girls, although dressed in Human Clan style, their fine clothes and pale skin clearly marked them as not ordinary folks.

On the Wuji Continent, only the Human Clan nobility or the Beast Clan could lead such privileged lives.

"Recently, there’s been what? People are dying of thirst and you’re still not searching for water, how foolish." The girl in pink sneered, instinctively looking down on these timid humans.

If it weren’t for her sister’s insistence on looking for a certain medicinal herb in the Blood Drinking Great Desert, she wouldn’t bother interacting with these humans. The woman hesitated, unsure whether to continue.

At that moment, the sound of drums and gongs came from the village entrance.

"Not good, the Beast Clan is here again. Everyone quickly escape!"

When she heard the Beast Clan was coming, the woman’s face turned pale with fear. She didn’t dare say anything more to the two girls, grabbing her daughter and running towards the village entrance.

The village turned chaotic in an instant, each family hauling the elderly and young, retreating into the depths of the desert.

Clop clop clop—

Flap flap flap—

Sounds of beast hooves rang out, accompanied by long cries of eagles, with a rolling cloud of dust on the northern side of the great desert.

In front appeared dozens of fierce beasts and birds of prey, these were all fierce beasts, from the pure white Snow Trampling Lion to the ferociously fierce Black Cloud Leopard and Cloud and Sunset Eagle, any one of these beasts could instantly kill a strong martial artist.

Normally, such fierce beasts are rare to see, but today, dozens appeared at once.

These fierce beasts and birds were exceptionally docile because mounted on them were youth from the Beast Clan, a hundred times more ferocious.

These young guys were only fifteen or sixteen, but from their agile movements and gleaming eyes, it was easy to see they were all skilled talents.

The leading energetic youth had bulging muscles looking as though they could tear through his clothes; his cultivation could certainly rival Martial Arts Sect Level.

The boys and girls beside him mostly had similar cultivation levels.

"Brothers and sisters, who do you think will be the winner this time?" The energetic youth, with apparent wolf clan bloodline, let out a wolf howl as he spoke.

"We’ll find out through competition." The young boys and girls laughed loudly.

"The loser must hand over one hundred clan members each as slaves to the winner." These youths were all noble or royal Beast Clan members; every summer, they would come to Blood Drink Desert for human hunting.

Human hunting, as the name suggests, involved hunting the Human Clan like prey; the more humans hunted, the more likely one was to win.

Human lives meant little to them; however, other Beast Clan slaves were valued differently.

There were a total of dozens here; winning once meant gaining tens of thousands of robust Beast Clan warriors.

"Haha, it’s settled then." The energetic youth led the charge, squeezing the Snow Trampling Lion beneath him as it rushed toward the Human Clan village, followed eagerly by other boys and girls, storming into the village.

Behind them was a black horse, carrying a youth.

The youth had chiseled features, a high nose bridge, deep-set eyes, his attire exceedingly plain, no additional fighting spirit energies evident.

Unlike the other young Beast Clan members, the youth did not immediately raid the village.

"Has the Shadow found out everything?" the youth suddenly asked.
