Gu Shen pushed open his home's door and softly called out.
The humble one-room apartment was utterly deserted, spanning roughly forty square meters, containing merely a table and a bed.
To call it 'bare walls' would not be an exaggeration.
Faint, mottled light from the bedroom flickered.
Had he neglected to switch off the holographic screen on the table before departing?
Gu Shen paused momentarily.
“Meow——”
What usually greeted him was an enthusiastic demand for food from a feline companion; however, today's response was somewhat delayed and carried a much calmer tone than usual.
An orange cat was perched squarely before the table's holographic screen, its gaze fixed intently on the entryway.
This was a stray Gu Shen had recently taken in, naming it Ju Zhi.
Upon bringing it home, he made a discovery… this cat possessed an astonishing appetite.
Living up to its moniker, 'Da Ju' (
Immediately clicking on the avatar frame, he attempted to retrieve the other individual's information… yet, whether in the personal details or related sections, no matter how much Gu Shen tapped, only blankness greeted him.
This was not the blankness of unfilled fields; it was as if no fields existed for filling… on the minuscule info card, there was no name, no gender, no birthdate, no pastimes, no signature, absolutely nothing.
Just a void.
Purely blank.
Even deceased individuals, provided they were once born, would not possess this absolute emptiness.
Gu Shen had never encountered such a phenomenon; every citizen across the Five Continents was required to have their blood registered in the Deep Sea database, a prerequisite for logging into the Deep Sea Network under their real name.
But every element on this particular card was vacant… could this represent a system glitch?
Regardless, it no longer held significance.
Gu Shen now experienced a surge of relief… he was grateful that he had refrained from revealing everything truthfully during the interrogation.
Who could possibly imagine what those individuals, who arrived so menacingly via helicopter to retrieve the remains of A-009, might have done had they been aware of the girl's continued existence, a character so unrestrained?
He most certainly did not wish for the girl to face imprisonment akin to A-009!
"Thank you," Gu Shen responded with courtesy, then eagerly pressed on, "I have several inquiries I wish to pose… for instance, who exactly are you?"
He was burdened by a multitude of questions.
