Light Fortress Chapter 2031 - 67: God Gu (2)
Previously on Light Fortress...
The existence of "portals" is precisely because of the turbulent belt’s "spatial instability."
The Investigation Corps updates the map of the Frontier every year.
Some regions, though already fully explored, still have survey teams dispatched there regularly, to redraw the charts.
That is because many items left behind by the Starship Civilization in the Old World drift through the fractured space of the turbulent belt, wandering aimlessly; this year, an expedition may find a certain ruin completely empty, yet two years later in that same place they might discover a terrifying sealed object.
By the same reasoning...
This corpse, with extremely high probability, drifted here through a temporary portal in the turbulent belt.
"Judging from the coagulation of the blood, we can infer that this person has been dead for less than twelve hours."
Gu Shen withdrew the Netherworld Fire and spoke with regret: "The corpse is indeed quite fresh, but his luck was poor. He was swallowed by the spatial maelstrom of the turbulent belt; his flesh could not possibly withstand an attack of that magnitude, to the point that even his Spirit Sea was torn to shreds."
A pity.
This corpse did not yield any particularly useful information.
"A Transcendent not even at the fourth tier."
Rust Bone looked at the face whose flesh and blood had been mangled, half the skull sheared away, and said calmly, "He doesn’t look like a man of the North Continent, nor of the East Continent..."
"Oh?"
Gu Shen raised his brows slightly.
"You mean to say..."
"At present the three continents have formed an alliance and are at war with the Traveler Tribe." Rust Bone spoke slowly: "If that war has already pushed beyond the Northern Continent Border, then the ’warriors’ sent by the alliance would never be clad in Source Armor this inferior."
Indeed!
Gu Shen turned his gaze back to the dead man’s equipment.
The Source Armor was truly crudely made... When he left the Five Continents back then, the Underground Research Institute’s Source Armor was already several versions more advanced than this exoskeleton rig before his eyes.
"This fellow is a South Continent man."
Gu Shen had already arrived at an answer in his heart.
He narrowed his eyes, looking toward the pitch-black void in the distance.
"If my guess is not mistaken, four years ago the Storm God’s Throne abandoned the Holy City and set sail for the Old World; they must have crossed the Ice Sea, retracing all the way the very escape route once taken by the Starship Civilization."
Gu Shen’s words left Rust Bone momentarily stunned.
The Rust Bone General’s voice carried a faint tremor. "And we... our course happens to be exactly opposite to theirs."
"Yes. This world is a complete sphere."
"From the Northern Continent Border, if one sets out in a fixed direction and sails long enough... one can, in the end, return to the Ice Sea."
Gu Shen’s expression was somewhat complex.
"The ’maelstrom’ of the turbulent belt delivered this corpse to the starship’s bow."
He drew a gentle breath and analyzed: "Though we do not know the exact place where he died, there is one point we can be sure of... Our distance from the Storm God’s Throne’s starship should not be too great."
"The Storm God’s Throne..."
Rust Bone’s expression grew tense.
He looked toward Gu Shen, a shade of worry lurking in his eyes.
The appearance of this corpse is both a boon and a bane—
If Gu Shen’s conjecture just now is correct, then in the course of their upcoming voyage, they are very likely to meet the Storm God’s Throne’s starship head-on!
"Mr. Rust Bone, you seem to be worried?"
Gu Shen smiled faintly.
"Yes... I am very worried."
Rust Bone rubbed at his brow and gave a bitter smile: "To say it out loud, I’m not afraid of you laughing at me—I am deeply anxious about encountering the Storm God’s Throne."
Only those supreme beings who have mastered origin know how terrifying the combat power of a Divine Throne truly is!
The Northern Continent Three Generals are hailed as the ultimate powers standing at the summit of the mortal world.
Yet before a Divine Throne.
They are nothing at all.
Even if the three joined forces, they would not possess the slightest chance of victory against the Empress.
Thus... even though Rust Bone had spent four years in the Time Dojo comprehending the Destruction Origin and his power has surged, he still does not believe he can face a Divine Throne head-on.
Once they encounter the Storm God’s Throne.
This starship is very likely to suffer a blow of sheer annihilation!
As for Gu Shen.
Rust Bone knew that Gu Shen held a "Netherworld King’s Spark," and in time would certainly become an immensely powerful and reliable Divine Throne!
But after these four years, Rust Bone had no clear idea of what cultivation achievements Gu Shen had wrought in the Time Dojo... In Rust Bone’s heart, Gu Shen remained a "young man" whose path of cultivation had not yet been long, someone to be cherished and protected.
Because he has devoted his entire life to battle, Rust Bone still instinctively believes that, if they should encounter the Storm God’s Throne.
Then it must be he who steps forward for this starship!
During the "Dream Reboot," Gu Shen had already dealt candidly with Rust Bone; he understood this general’s character and qualities all too well, and so he knew precisely whence Rust Bone’s worry arose.
"Mr. Rust Bone... you need not fret over a ’Divine War.’"
Gu Shen said gently: "If we meet the Storm God’s Throne, it’s all right. I will take the field."
That light, effortless I will take the field.
Left Rust Bone stunned.
"In these four years... to what level have you grown?"
Rust Bone looked at the youth before him and could not help but ask.
Four years had passed.
Gu Shen was still a "youth," his face almost unchanged from the time of the Dream Reboot.
This youthful shell was simply too deceptive.
"Right now... I suppose I can barely be considered a competent Divine Throne?"
Gu Shen could not help but speak with a laugh.
He stretched out his palm, thinking to sketch a measure across his chest, but after a moment’s thought, decided against such play.
Seeing the bronze sword Rust Bone wore at his side, Gu Shen proposed a more direct method.
"Why don’t you strike at me with all your strength, one full sword. Then we’ll see."
Gu Shen himself was quite curious.
After four years of arduous cultivation in the Time Dojo, to what extent had his "Fire Seed Melting" progressed?
