Light Fortress Chapter 1950 - 23: Wind Snow in Gu Castle (Part 3)

~3 minute read · 650 words
Previously on Light Fortress...
The Storm Church, having taken the fire seeds, has abandoned the Southern Continent. Lin Lin surveys the devastated Gu Castle Fortress, a stark reminder of war's cruelty. Commander Purple Rain reports on the Third Legion's landing and the Storm Church's fractured factions, noting the ongoing conflict with the Source Tower.

Lin Lin was stunned.

He lifted his head in disbelief. Standing in front of the ruins of the Gu Castle Fortress for so long, he didn’t sense a single living presence, let alone any remaining spiritual thoughts. The Heavenly Sheath Fragment had already completely enshrouded this area... Yet now, amid the swirling snow, a small figure slowly emerged, only reaching Lin Lin’s knee in height, cloaked in a tattered black robe.

This appeared to be a child of only three or four years old, but their eyes were incredibly lively, with a brilliant flame burning between their brows.

The child stood in the swirling snow.

The snow whirling behind him seemed different from the original snow in Gu Castle... Those snowflakes seemed to carry a warmth, making them feel less cold.

Purple Rain instinctively blocked Lin Lin.

She felt utterly bewildered; the child before her appeared very young, yet their spiritual power was vast as the sea, so deep even she could not fathom its depths.

But this spiritual aura...

Why is it so familiar?

The next moment, Lin Lin’s voice of surprise made her understand the reason.

"Gu Shen?!"

Lin Lin stood up, clapping his hands to shake off the snow dust, and said in astonishment, "Why didn’t you say you were coming back?"

"There’s no need to notify you of such small matters."

Gu Shen shook his head and said gently, "Now that Gu Castle has been completely destroyed and the North Continent has established a new Spirit Network, besides me, hardly anyone can step into the area shrouded by the Heavenly Sheath Fragment... This place is a safe zone for me."

The current environment of the Gu Castle Fortress is more severe than the [Old World].

Gu Shen himself can withstand the Heavenly Sheath Fragment, so he fears nothing. He doesn’t worry that [Deep Sea] will employ any special means...

After the Gu Castle Fortress was shattered, Gu Shen came here.

The fortress garrison of thirty-seven hundred men perished entirely in the Source Material Storm, and by the time Gu Shen arrived, the corpses had completely vanished, but the spiritual will remained.

He couldn’t bear to see the defenders of the Gu Castle Fortress just "die" like that.

Thus... he wielded the Netherworld King’s authority.

Gu Shen raised his palm.

His spiritual power is now limited, only enough to sustain the Pure Land for a brief moment.

"Rumble——"

With a thunderous roar, a towering tree burst forth from the ground behind Gu Shen, and the warm snowflakes started to swirl and flow.

Lin Lin stood dumbfounded.

The Pure Land summoned by Gu Shen shook off countless snowflakes, amid which stood a dense multitude of familiar figures...

He saw the "old friends" of Gu Castle Fortress.

The defenders of the Gu Castle Fortress, in the form of Souls, swayed in the wind and snow.

Zou Hai, wearing a brimmed hat and holding a heavy big dog, stood under the tree of Suspending Wood.

Due to Gu Shen’s limited spiritual power, the "Souls" in the Pure Land cannot see the outside scene.

Most of the garrison of the Gu Castle Fortress were ordinary in strength when alive, and many lost consciousness after being "resurrected." Even when summoned, they just drift around unconsciously...

But Zou Hai was different from them.

Gu Shen exerted his greatest effort to let Zou Hai retain a part of his consciousness from life.

The wind howled violently, like weeping and complaining.

Standing under the Suspending Wood, Zou Hai seemed to sense something. He slowly raised one hand, straightened his brimmed hat, and then, following the wind’s guidance, turned back to gaze at the end of the wind and snow.

That was precisely Lin Lin’s direction.

Zou Hai, holding his big dog, smiled warmly into the wind and snow.

Everything was understood without words.
