Light Fortress Chapter 1931 - 16: Soul Contract
Previously on Light Fortress...
The Ice Sea.
The raging waves of recent days have finally dissipated.
Spring Plow slowly arrived at the front of the Tidal Cage, his hands clasped behind his back, gazing at the man barely clinging to life before him.
The weather around the Ice Sea had been extremely harsh these past days.
For a Fourth-order Transcendent with a domain, this shouldn’t have been a problem. But the Red Dragon, trapped within the authority of [Tide], had no strength left to even open his domain after the last brutal battle.
For days on end, storms swept through, tearing open every wound on the Red Dragon’s body.
"Red Dragon, I have good news for you."
The Spring Plow Saint smiled and said, "The Ancient Literature Society agreed to all the Holy City’s demands... quite unexpected, I thought they’d given up on you."
"..."
The disheveled hair wet by the seawater fell down, covering the Red Dragon’s face.
He raised his head to look at the Spring Plow Saint before him.
"Spare them."
The Red Dragon’s voice was very hoarse.
"Spare them?"
The Spring Plow Saint seemed to hear a very funny joke, he looked at the Red Dragon mockingly, smiling as he asked, "Are you begging me? Do you qualify to beg me?"
The Red Dragon was silent for several seconds again.
He lowered his head and gently said, "I’m not begging you."
The Spring Plow Saint frowned, somewhat puzzled.
"I know, the whole maritime area of Yuanting Island... belongs to you."
The Red Dragon chuckled low, even using honorifics: "So everything that happens here, you see with your own eyes, every word I say to Spring Plow, you hear with your own ears."
He seemed to be talking to himself.
But...
This was not babble.
The Spring Plow Saint knew that the Red Dragon’s words were not exaggerated; the entire sea area belonged to the Lord Divine.
The Lord Divine needed not to appear.
[Tide] could listen to the sounds of all things in this sea area.
The Spring Plow Saint’s expression darkened, was the Red Dragon trying to bypass him and speak directly to the Lord Divine?
What was he thinking!
How could the Lord Divine possibly entertain a prisoner?
However, in the next moment, the surface of the water was whipped into countless waves and swirls, seemingly responding to the Red Dragon’s mutterings. The shattered ripples surged upon the sea, and the Spring Plow Saint’s face suddenly turned grave.
"Lord Divine!"
The Spring Plow Saint said in a deep voice, "I can handle this matter properly, no need for you to personally... "
"I don’t care about my end."
The Red Dragon lifted his head, looking at the swirling tides surrounding him, and suddenly asked, "I can die, whether in the Central Continent, in the Ice Sea, anywhere... But if I’m destined to die, why not let me die with some value?"
The Spring Plow Saint was stunned.
"I want to meet you in person."
The Red Dragon lifted his face with a grin, revealing a face full of bloody stains, saying, "With the identity of... the former First Divine Envoy of the Source Tower."
The words were spoken by then.
Even if the Spring Plow Saint wanted to interrupt, he couldn’t start.
"Step back."
Above the surface of the sea came a calm directive from the Storm God’s Throne.
The Spring Plow Saint’s expression was complex; he could only obediently bow his head, gritting his teeth as he said, "Yes... my Lord."
He was second to one person only under heaven in the Southern Continent, above all others.
But some things, in the end, were not his to decide.
When the Storm God’s Throne commanded him to leave, he could only depart.
After a bow, the Spring Plow Saint did not hesitate; he stepped on the sea tides and swiftly left.
"Swish..."
Before the Water Cage, a figure rose abruptly, feet kissing the ocean surface, swaying with the waves.
The Storm God’s Throne said blandly, "You wanted to see me? Now you see."
The Red Dragon laughed.
He extended a hand to wipe the bloodstains from his face.
He knew the Storm God’s Throne had always been watching him...
The battle with Spring Plow, no matter how fought, was destined to be lost.
Even if he were truly willing to die, it held no meaning.
Because should anything unforeseen occur, the Storm God’s Throne would intervene, for in this sea area, he was the sole ruler.
But even so.
The Red Dragon still chose to fight the Spring Plow Saint like a mad dog, indifferent to defeat, wanting instead... the attitude of the Storm God’s Throne. It was now clear; even after exhausting all his aces, he was still suppressed by the Spring Plow Saint’s Origin Power. Given the Spring Plow Saint’s hatred for the Ancient Literature Society, he surely would not spare the Red Dragon’s life.
Yet ironically, the Spring Plow Saint did not kill him.
He chose not to kill.
This was the attitude of the Storm.
On one hand, it was to keep the Red Dragon as a trade bargaining chip...
On the other hand, the Red Dragon speculated the Storm God’s Throne truly didn’t want him dead.
He had no evidence, only speculation.
As the First Divine Envoy of the Source Tower, his talent was high, his strength formidable.
Most importantly, he knew the intelligence of the Central Continent!
Such a person, if he could remain under one’s command, was certainly better alive than dead.
"I want to live."
The Red Dragon took a deep breath, speaking word by word.
There were no more words needed.
To live on.
This was a human instinct, also the foremost vital tenet in the extraordinary world.
No one wants to die, the Red Dragon being no exception.
"You are but merchandise."
The Storm God’s Throne said blandly, "Whether or not you will live depends on who buys you."
If a transaction is reached with the Central Continent.
Then... given the Red Dragon’s betrayal of the Source Tower, survival seemed hardly probable.
"You are right."
The Red Dragon still did not forget to use honorifics, smiling wryly as he said, "But whether I’m merchandise or not, isn’t it up to you to decide? If I’m not mistaken, even if you get your ’chip,’ you aren’t planning to just let me go back, are you?"
