While Jax was busy ruthlessly threatening the royal guards, a woman walked down the grand staircase with pure authority and undeniable elegance.
The very second her foot left the final step and touched the main hall floor, she spoke with an icy tone. "Jehern, explain this ridiculous commotion immediately."
Before the terrified guard could even attempt to form a response, Jax froze completely. He recognized that voice instantly and spun around to face Adelina.
His entire world ground to an absolute halt.
He immediately started walking toward her while the expression on Adelina’s face shifted from annoyance to sheer shock the moment she saw who was standing in her main hall.
Suddenly a thick wall of glowing mana violently erupted from the floor and completely separated them.
Astrid stood nearby with her hand raised and a deep scowl carved into her features. "You fool, what exactly do you think you are doing right now? Do not take another step toward her. She could easily be under a mind control spell, or she might just be a complete imposter wearing the face of my aunt."
Jax ignored her, sliced clean through the wall and dashed toward the clueless Adelina. He wrapped her up in a hug so tight that the queen actually let out a small gasp of surprise.
His skill had already confirmed that this was the real Adelina the second he laid eyes on her. And honestly, even if she had been compromised, he did not give a single damn at this exact moment. She was here. She was breathing. She was alive.
Many souls in the hall went visibly shocked at the sight of the hug.
Rora glanced sideways at Astrid, who was currently muttering pure dark curses under her breath while angrily grabbing her own chest in unadulterated jealousy.
’Look at how this bitch is actively weaponizing her massive breasts to charm what rightfully belongs to me. And that shameless pervert Jax needs a brutal punishment for daring to choose sheer size over premium quality.’
Then her brain took the worst possible left turn. ’Listen to me, Loki. I know you are in there somewhere. If you ruin this romantic moment and give that pervert a lifelong psychological trauma, I will gladly pay you. Just murder her right now and I will double your usual fee.’
Rora violently blasted Astrid with a calming magic spell before her master could actually finish forming a binding contract with a demon.
Astrid blinked heavily as she regained her senses and realized she had once again let her intrusive thoughts win.
Meanwhile, back over with Jax, he was pressing himself tighter and tighter against Adelina. A massive flood of pure emotion completely washed over his mind and he genuinely did not care about what anyone in the room thought about his actions.
Speaking of the audience. Almost every single royal guard currently had a sharp spear or a heavy sword pointed directly at his back as he remained glued to their queen.
But Adelina projected her royal authority and ordered. "Drop your weapons right now, because this man is absolutely no enemy of ours."
The royal guards hesitantly lowered their heavy steel blades.
She kept her face resting against his shoulder and issued another strict command. "I want every single one of you to leave this hall immediately, and do not allow anyone else to enter. I need absolute privacy to assess the current situation."
They bowed and started exiting. One brave soldier paused and gazed at Astrid as if silently telling her to leave as well.
Astrid, who was still crossing her arms, violently threw up a middle finger and jerked her chin toward the door to gesture for him to get out.
The soldier hissed in anger, completely unaware of who he was messing with. But before he could step forward to force her out, Adelina waved her hand and silently ordered him to leave and not bother that angry girl.
After everything was finally settled, Adelina pulled back the face of Jax, whose one ear was currently stuck deep in her cleavage. She pressed his cheeks between her palms like a worried mother examining her sick child.
"What exactly happened, Jax. Why are you acting like this today. Please do not tell me you had some terrible nightmare."
Jax looked directly into her eyes and spoke softly. "I had one. And it was the absolute worst kind at that. I truly thought I lost you. I thought..."
He paused for a moment. His throat tightened around words he could not finish saying out loud. "...I was terrified at even the simple thought of it."
Adelina softly patted his head. Then a sudden wave of self awareness hit her and her expression flickered.
She realized she desperately had to compose herself because there were three extra pairs of eyes staring directly at them. She straightened her posture and smiled gently.
"It certainly seems like there is a lot of explaining I will need from you today. But honestly, all of those complicated details can wait for now."
She reached out and gently brushed a stray hair from his forehead. "It has been far too long since I last saw your face. Welcome back, Jax."
Then she turned her attention to Astrid and offered a warm smile. "Welcome back to you too, my dear Ashy. You have not visited me since that crazy champions incident."
Astrid simply crossed her arms and let out a dramatic hmph while aggressively pouting. She completely ignored the queen, leaving Adelina entirely baffled by the childish reaction.
Time passed and Jax stayed closely with Adelina. He paid very little attention to Astrid, which only drove her further into pure absolute insanity. After it was confirmed by Rora that there was no malice or foreign mana found inside Adelina, the tension finally bled out of the room.
Jax explained everything he possibly could to her about his current situation. He told her about the gods game, the celestials hunting him, the rules he was forced to play by. He shared his grand vision and his ultimate goal of winning this death game to finally earn the right to stay in this world.
By the time he finally finished explaining everything, the sun had set.
It was evening and both of them were quietly staring out at the beautiful garden from the private balcony of her room.
Adelina sighed softly. "I completely believe your words, Jax. I am truly sorry for doubting you back when you first told me you did not belong to this world. It was incredibly hard to believe at the time. But after witnessing that crazy champions incident, I finally realized you were telling the exact truth."
She looked down at the garden. "That is the exact reason I never asked you any questions when you said you needed time to fix things. I thought I would just be a terrible hurdle in your way and I tried to distance myself so you could focus. But it is really good to hear that you have not forgotten about me."
Jax smiled and shook his head. "That is never going to happen. And besides, I was the one who was genuinely scared that you were pushing me away."
Adelina laughed a beautiful light laugh and then her eyes drifted over his shoulder. "I guess there are just a lot of massive misunderstandings for the day. But hey, what is up with my little Ashy. She is staring at me like a highly territorial feral cat watching someone steal her prized meal right in front of her face."
Jax’s head snapped up. Surprise flickered across his face. "Wait, how did you figure that out?"
Adelina tilted her head in pure confusion. "What exactly do you mean by that?"
Jax awkwardly rubbed the back of his head. "Well, your funny comparison was actually entirely accurate... But please just forget I said anything and treat it as one more silly misunderstanding for the day."
Adelina looked at him with deep suspicion. "Wait, what exactly are you hiding now?"
Jax offered a quick wave goodbye. "It is nothing serious to worry about, so just leave it alone. And once again, please do not ever remove that ring I gave you. Whenever you feel like you are in danger, just use it without a single moment of hesitation."
Adelina raised her voice. "Wait a second, because we are definitely not done talking yet."
Jax quickly slipped away because he knew exactly where that conversation was headed.
But as he walked away, Echidna spoke directly into his mind.
