Jax reassures Tempris, who expresses her fear of abandonment rather than her captivity. As they escape the burning royal estate, Jax reveals his diversion tactics. Lavinia arrives with news of a blocked border and Athanasia fighting alone. Jax intervenes in Athanasia's battle, saving her from surrender and the Grand Marshal.

Athanasia remained on her knees, but a knowing smile finally replaced her despair. She understood now that her tragic demise would have to be postponed, as the most unpredictable lunatic she had ever encountered had decided to disrupt the proceedings.

Beyond the woman wielding the sword, who was capturing the undivided attention of the stunned army, other girls followed closely behind Jax.

Jax paid no heed to the staring eyes or the absurd circumstances of being completely encircled. He strode directly towards Athanasia, one hand firmly gripping Tempris, who was clutching her chest and concealed beneath his cloak, while he extended his other hand towards his battered student.

"Aside from that thoroughly embarrassing display of surrender, you held your own admirably for this long. However, now is not the time for complacency, so rise. We have a great deal to manage at this moment."

Athanasia gazed at his offered hand and grasped it firmly, her exhausted body compelled to rise.

It was then that Evangeline spoke, her voice laced with the concern of someone who had actually been tallying the enemy combatants. "Professor, what precisely is the strategy moving forward? Because considering the sheer numbers, a forceful breakout simply isn't a feasible option."

Jax responded without a trace of concern in his tone. "The plan remains unchanged. Our primary objective is still the secure delivery of Tempris to the cultists, as I've informed you all previously."

Prior to infiltrating the palace, Jax had outlined this plan to the four girls. Initially, each of them had been perplexed as to its purpose, beyond merely exchanging one dreadful situation for another for the unfortunate child. Yet, Jax's unwavering confidence conveyed what his words could not, as if he possessed knowledge beyond their comprehension. And there was simply no conceivable way he would jeopardize this child's life after defying the most formidable empire in history to ensure her safety.

Evangeline stated, "I grasp that, Professor. But that army will absolutely not permit us to simply stroll out of here."

Jax surveyed the surrounding forces and then glanced at the sun cresting the horizon, clicking his tongue in annoyance.

"Very well. Allow me to serve as the lure and the shield for all of you. I shall carve a direct path through them and command every single gaze towards myself. Simply heed the summon and entrust your backs to me."

Bruise Lee materialized beside him, prepared to guide the group to their intended location.

Jax added, "Ensure your sole responsibility is to place Tempris within the cultists' line of sight and then depart the area before any suspicion arises or any disruption occurs in the library."

Upon hearing this, Tempris struggled free from Jax's grasp and landed on her feet with a thud that seemed disproportionately loud for her small frame. "What does that mean, Mister? Are you... are you abandoning me?"

Jax knelt before her, his voice gentle. "Our parting was unavoidable, as we do not inhabit the same existence. However, as I've stated, I will protect you, and I have discovered a method to achieve that. Therefore, place your trust in me. I promise you will find a new home, a new family, and a new life where you can flourish without constant pursuit."

Her eyes instantly welled with tears. "But I don't want that. I want you."

Jax tenderly wiped her tear-streaked cheeks with his thumbs. "I cannot grant that wish. Do you recall when I mentioned having people awaiting my return? A family that would be desperately worried? I must return to the place where I belong."

Tempris clasped both his hands with her tiny fingers, holding on with all her might. "Then take me with you! Take me to your world, Mister, please! You are the only one I have left!"

Jax held her hands, his voice straining to remain steady. "You must comprehend, little one. We originate from entirely different planes of existence. My initial purpose in this world was a mission to execute you. However, unforeseen circumstances transpired, and because I chose to save you, your only path to survival now lies in my entrusting you to those capable of nurturing you into an undeniably powerful individual. So, please be courageous and strive to understand, for our time is swiftly running out."

Tempris felt her world collapsing around her yet again, uncertain of how to react. Through her tears, she managed to ask, "Mister, will we ever meet again?"

Jax replied, "Based on what I've been informed, most certainly. But that hinges on you and whether you desire it."

She roughly rubbed her face with both hands, then turned away from him without looking back. "Then I shall not keep you waiting. Sister Lavinia, let us depart."

She entwined her tiny hand with Lavinia’s pinky finger and began walking, not once glancing back. Jax offered Lavinia and the others a nod of farewell.

But Delphine stepped in before anyone could proceed further. "Are you seriously out of your mind, Professor? If this plan is truly what you're considering, your ego has escalated to a catastrophic degree. I understand your enjoyment in showing off, but there's a very thin boundary between being a brilliant strategist and a deluded martyr." Before Jax could offer a reply, Echidna's voice echoed within his mind. "The girl speaks the truth. This is nothing short of a suicide mission. And if you're contemplating borrowing my power once more, it's not feasible at this juncture." Jax conveyed to her internally, "I hadn't considered that. But now that you've returned, what precisely transpired with me back then? It felt as though I had no command over my own body." Echidna responded, "I cautioned you about the repercussions, yet you paid no heed. Well, I certainly didn't anticipate you'd be so feeble as to be unable to withstand even a small fraction of my power. Yes, you lost consciousness, and that is the cost of asserting my authority. You were fortunate that your emotions triumphed due to Tempris, but rest assured, such a victory won't occur every time." Her tone grew more somber. "My power possesses the capability to obliterate your very soul or to completely erase your memories. Alternatively, and far worse, it can shatter the restraints binding the demons that slumber within every mortal's heart. Once they awaken and seize control, the exit seals behind them eternally."
