Jax returned to find his group in distress. The Grand Marshal had taken Tempris away while Jax was gone. Filled with rage and guilt, Jax confronted Athanasia, who revealed Jax's promise to protect Tempris had been broken. Athanasia urged caution, warning of the empire's true monsters, but Jax vowed to rescue Tempris himself. He infiltrated the imperial palace with Lavinia, Evangeline, Delphine, and Athanasia, preparing to create a diversion while the others searched for Tempris. Jax then encountered an emperor on his way to a private meeting.

Jax found himself rapidly connecting the pieces of information while maintaining a perfectly still posture, like a sentry who had overheard their entire hushed exchange. He now unequivocally understood that the man before him was none other than Emperor Oberon.

This particular empire boasted two emperors, who were renowned as the dearest of friends. Their camaraderie was spoken of throughout the lands as the ultimate example of true friendship. They were, it seemed, two bodies sharing a single soul.

And Isadora, the woman in question, was betrothed to Emperor Damian.

A grin, the widest it had ever graced Jax's face across any existence he had known, spread across his features.

He initiated his body-swapping ability, plunging into the persona of Emperor Oberon. The instant the transition concluded, he observed Isadora within the chamber, her back turned as she prepared tea. Remarkably, his original body did not falter or collapse this time. It remained standing, though clear signs of panic registered on its features.

Jax strode towards his former vessel, employing Oberon's resonant baritone and an air of imperial command, he spoke, "Who are you?"

His own body responded with a palpable nervousness, one Jax found all too familiar. "I... I do not comprehend how I've come to inhabit this body, but I solemnly swear I harbor no ill intentions towards you, Your Majesty! However, the same cannot be said for the body's true owner! He is undoubtedly concocting some scheme against you! If you would only permit me to depart, I pledge by the very Empire that I will hunt down the owner of this body and deliver him here myself, by the throat!"

Jax paused, a flicker of recognition crossing his mind. "Echidna?"

She visibly froze. "Your Highness, how is it that you know my name?"

A sigh, sounding as if it originated from Oberon himself, escaped Jax. "You foolish woman, it is I. Jax. This is merely one of my abilities. It appears I've only now grasped its peculiar side effect: should two souls occupy the same body, the other soul commandeers the primary vessel."

A beat of silence, precisely one second long, followed. "Oh gods, you gave me a fright! And I was completely jesting about the throat-dragging bit, so please, try not to take it too seriously! But tell me, what is it you truly desire from me?"

Jax motioned towards a contingent of guards receding down the corridor, the very ones dispatched to relay a message to Damian. "Follow them. Locate Emperor Damian. And inform him that his dearest friend is intimately involved with his bride."

Echidna's voice was laced with absolute disbelief. "WHAT?! Don't tell me you're actually going to—"

Jax interjected with a chilling calm that only amplified the severity of his words. "Worry not. These two friends are destined for separation regardless. I am merely ensuring the event unfolds with a slight nudge from my hand."

She whispered, her voice trembling with petrification, "You monster."

Using Oberon's hands, Jax propelled his own body forward. "Now go. Do not squander my time. I have a considerable number of matters to attend to."

As Echidna stumbled away in Jax's form, appearing as though she had just been informed she would be precipitating a world war, Jax found himself alone once more with Isadora.

He settled onto the bed. Retrieving the cup of tea she had poured, he took a sip, exuding the demeanor of a man with boundless time, his mind brimming with nefarious schemes.

Adopting Oberon's voice, he spoke with the casual warmth one might use when addressing family. "You know, Isadora, I must confess. I was genuinely taken aback when I learned Damian was finally settling down with someone. Honestly, considering how perpetually he clings to my side, I had begun to harbor genuine concerns that he might renounce women altogether and propose to me one day."

Isadora emitted a soft giggle, her hand politely covering her mouth. "Lord Damian truly holds you in high regard. I still recall the day he journeyed to our Viscounty to formally present his proposal. He dedicated more time to speaking of you than he did of himself."

Jax nodded, accompanied by a sigh that seemed to carry the weight of years of feigned weariness. "Ah, he has been that way since the very beginning. The man might present an absolute facade of ice to the rest of the world, but he is a complete softie when it comes to me. I vividly remember the time I was weakened by mana exhaustion. Damian completely abandoned his imperial duties to remain by my bedside for an entire week. He even personally fed me soup and would fall asleep holding my hand every single night."

Isadora's smile conveyed genuine warmth. "That... I can certainly believe. The bond you two share is truly unparalleled. It is something I deeply respect."

Jax mused internally, his thoughts swift and sharp. 'Just wait until I transform that respect into utter horror.'

Isadora continued, her tone tinged with a subtle vulnerability. "Still, I must admit, I am incredibly envious of you. No matter how diligently I strive to capture his affections, I doubt I could ever displace you from the paramount position on his list of cherished individuals."

Jax chuckled, his laughter resonating with Oberon's rich baritone. "Haha! Not in this lifetime, our queen."

Isadora leaned forward, her eyes alight with curiosity. "Would you perhaps indulge me with a few more details about him? I mean, beyond his public persona as a stern and unyielding ruler. I am certain you possess a veritable trove of anecdotes that could help me thaw that icy exterior of his."

Jax set down his cup with the calculated precision of a man poised to perpetrate a verbal war crime. "Oh, I possess an absolute treasury of them. Where does one even commence?"

With a snap of his fingers, he declared, "Ah, I know the perfect incident. If he ever starts to act too domineering or intimidating towards you, just mention this. It'll mortify him to the point of speechlessness."

Isadora's eyes lit up, as if she was about to receive the ultimate weapon for her marital woes.

Jax leaned back, launching into a completely fabricated tale with the seasoned delivery of someone reminiscing about a cherished memory. "Well, it was a while back, when the two of us were unwinding in a hot spring after we'd annihilated some vile clan together."

He shook his head, a nostalgic smile gracing his lips. "Damian was really grating on my nerves back then, constantly mocking my swordsmanship. So, I charged at him underwater and, mind you, we were only fifteen, and grabbed one of his nipples. Squeezed it as hard as I could. Now, don't give me that look."

Isadora listened intently, nodding along with a hint of amusement.

"So, when I pinched it, within seconds, something peculiar leaked out. It resembled milk. I was utterly taken aback by what had happened to my dear friend. And when I surfaced and glimpsed Damian's face..."

Jax paused, letting the suspense build.

"He was clearly enjoying it. A look of complete satisfaction was on his face. That's when I grasped that what I was holding wasn't his nipple at all. It was something entirely different that just happened to feel like one."

He allowed the silence to hang heavy, then added, "And that 'milk'? It wasn't actually milk."

Isadora's smile didn't just falter; it vanished entirely. Her cheerful countenance crumpled into pure horror, her jaw slackening in disbelief.

Jax, however, continued, his expression shifting to one of profound concern and sorrow, as if the recollection pained him deeply.

"Lady Isadora, I acknowledge Damian has his shortcomings. But I assure you, he is a truly remarkable individual. If you could just find it in yourself to compromise on certain... facets of your marriage, I am certain he will adore you for all your remaining days."

Her voice emerged strained, barely coherent. "Compromise... on what?"

Jax placed a hand over his heart sympathetically. "Well... his prowess in the bedchamber, perhaps. Or any grand romantic aspirations you might have harbored for your future together."

He followed up with a solemn nod. "Furthermore, I fear providing you with an heir and fulfilling your desire to become a mother will be exceedingly difficult for my dear friend. Considering his... unfortunate physical condition."

Reaching across, he gently took her hand, his sincerity so profound it could move the heavens. "But I can guarantee you, aside from all these matters, he will bestow upon you a life of unparalleled luxury! So please, as his closest and most trusted friend, I implore you... never abandon him."
