Jax clarified to the voice resonating in his mind. "I mean the one that's been with me right from the start. The one handing out quests and tasks."

With real bewilderment, the woman's voice responded. "I have no clue what you're saying. And what's this about from the beginning when I entered you? Don't forget, you're the one who stepped into my graveyard."

"Graveyard?" Jax questioned.

Like instructing a child for the third round, she replied in frustration. "Oh gods, you're dense. How did Mother take to you? Pay attention, idiot. You emerged from the spot where I was sealed. Ever since, I've trailed after you."

Sudden understanding struck Jax. "Hold on. Are you the fabled Witch of Calamity? Or along those lines?"

"That's right. Though I possess a superior name: Echidna, bestowed by my Mother Almighty. She's the one who commanded me to assist you."

Jax's mind neared overload. "What in the world is happening? First, you mention Celestials pursuing me. Then your 'Mother Almighty' who oddly latched onto me. And you—the Witch of Calamity—slipping into my body without permission."

He continued. "Plus, every woman here seems eager to either enslave or embrace me. Why does everything revolve around me?"

The voice fired back sharply. "Hey, Mr. Delusional. Don't flatter yourself. I'm only here on orders from someone I can't refuse. Otherwise, no way I'd babysit a lost boy like you."

Before Jax could fire off another query, Zharina lunged forward, unleashing a crushing punch at him.

With a tongue click, Jax lifted his sole surviving sword—the battered one—and prayed to all the deities seemingly observing that its unbreakable trait in the stats would endure once more.

Her fist collided with his blade. He pressed his left palm atop the sword to absorb the blow, but the force tore his skin against the metal, staining it with blood.

Yet her fist's overwhelming might shattered his guard. The shockwave hurled him tumbling over the arena ground once more. At least the sword held together—barely.

He checked his HP bar.

[HP: 30,000 / 80,000]

'I didn't even catch a full hit, yet it's plunged this low. One solid strike and I'm finished.'

Thrusting the sword into the earth, he leaned on it to haul himself upright.

Zharina prowled around him, stalking slowly like a hunter picking her next attack vector. She adjusted her gauntlet idly as she spoke.

"Professor, you wondered why I offered you a real shot to escape the chaos you idiotically sparked by inking that blood contract?"

Not pausing for his reply, she pressed on. "Truthfully, I can't say why I did. No idea what flipped my thinking. Or why gazing at you as my professor left me feeling beaten."

Her tone held no scorn or jeer—just raw sincerity.

"I can't pinpoint what shifted my vengeance into respect for you. Even aware of your wicked nature."

She halted her circle. "No question, though—you outshone me as a professor by miles. I saw it every time you backed your students. Whenever danger struck them. Massive peril, to be precise."

Her gaze locked onto his.

"You ignored the risks of aiding them. Brushed off the tournament I schemed over two weeks to trap you with. You just barreled ahead and handled it."

Simply put, she stated. "You awakened me. Showed how my chosen road veered totally from my life's vow."

Jax's sanity frayed. An old witch toyed with him from within his head. Now this fighter dumped a heartfelt history smack in battle. Everyone nearby acted bound to drop half-truths ending on suspense.

Catching his look, Zharina grinned. Her voice then altered.

"You see, I arrived in this realm as a slave. A sex slave, precisely. Sold off to a lecherous elder at age ten."

Despite the broadcast remaining dark, the arena hushed further.

"Back then, I owned zilch. No kin. No mana. No spells. Just a savage history. Fate could've worsened if the transaction finished."

Her eyes dropped to her gauntlets.

"Yet prior to sealing the bargain, the auction hall endured a massacre. A bloodshed that lingers as this land's enduring enigma."

She fell silent.

"A professor from this academy pulled it off. He rescued me and the rest, then aided everyone in reuniting with their families or kin."

Her tone grew softer.

"But I had nowhere to return to. So, he took me under his wing."

Her fist clenched tightly.

"I stayed with him. Before long, our connection deepened into something familial. He cherished me as his own daughter. He instructed me in all aspects of martial arts and combat tactics, given that my mana core was weak and magic offered no viable path."

Her eyes lifted toward the sky over the arena.

"Life seemed perfect. I had a master akin to a father. A true home. Friends among the other kids. Yet fate delivered its harsh blow."

Her jaw clenched hard.

"I learned the truth: the man I called master was a Celestial, forged by the primordial gods' power and authority. Even worse, he had forsaken the Empyrean Realm, turned against his own, and concealed himself within the academy—or rather, he had settled here to pursue his schemes."

She shifted her gaze down to Jax once more.

"Seven years back, he revealed it all to me. He sensed I’d be left behind again. His father and others were approaching to end him."

Her grasp on the gauntlets squeezed until her knuckles blanched white.

"In his final instants, he bestowed these upon me—his divine weapons—and infused them with every ounce of his celestial energy. He knew he stood no chance against the oncoming foes."
