Perhaps my luck as a protagonist held out, as I managed to deceive those dwarves for a short while. The Dwarf King, an imposing figure, slowly approached, his regal aura pressing down on me. He peered at Tanaya, who was hiding behind me, murmuring, "...So, it seems my useless brother also fathered children, and they've grown this large." My instinct screamed to retreat, yet I forced myself to remain still. I was playing the role of royalty, and showing fear was not an option to maintain the deception. "But why does the boy's sister possess the horns unique to the Horned Demon Race?" the Dwarf King inquired, his gaze locked onto the horns adorning Tanaya's head. Blast! My lie had held, but what about Tanaya!? The Dwarf King extended his hand towards her. Halting him now would only invite suspicion. Unable to find words to break the tension, I began to contemplate the worst—should I contact Grace and prepare for an escape? The Dwarf King's hand landed on Tanaya's head, and a ring on his finger seemed to momentarily flash. His expression shifted subtly, a frown creasing his brow. Ultimately, he merely ruffled Tanaya's hair and withdrew his hand. "Amu," Tanaya blinked her large, innocent eyes, looking up at the Dwarf King curiously, her hair now a messy tuft. "Hah, he even had a daughter with the Horned Demon Race. Brother, what were you thinking?" the Dwarf King mused aloud. He then turned to the guards holding Chuck, gesturing for them to release him. What? Just like that? Was it over? "Father..." Chuck, now on his feet, tried to speak to the Dwarf King, but his father simply walked past him towards the [Transmission Box]. The dwarf elders and guards, still wearing expressions of surprise and occasionally glancing my way, obediently followed their king. Before stepping into the [Transmission Box], the Dwarf King paused. "Chuck, you've returned at this crucial time for the Ore God Festival, haven't you?" he stated. "...If you can present yourself to me during this year's Ore God Festival..." "Father—!!!" Chuck cried out excitedly. "Then we can deliberate on the future path of this nation," the Dwarf King concluded. He and the other dwarves entered the [Transmission Box]. A female dwarf guard closed the iron door and engaged the mechanism. With a grinding of gears, the unexpected visitors finally departed. Chuck looked at me, then at Tanaya, his legs buckling as he collapsed to the ground. "Tuvok above, this must be your will," Chuck panted, his voice faint. "Hey, what is going on here?" I approached and nudged Chuck with my foot. "I never agreed to acknowledge him as my uncle." I remained cautious with my words, as one of the dwarf guards, the one who had closed the gate, lingered behind. After securing the iron gate, she approached us, her gaze fixed on me, which made me rather uncomfortable. "You can speak freely; it's quite alright. She is my fiancée, Leica," Chuck announced with a grin, turning to introduce her. "Leica, this is Walson Barlow, my dear little cousin." I shot Chuck a withering glare. "Who's your little cousin?" "Greetings, Lord Walson. I am certain my Chuck has caused you considerable trouble," the dwarf woman said. Clad in light blue attire, a veil signifying an unmarried woman covered her face. Though I couldn't see her features, I could sense she was beautiful. Chuck, truly lucky. "Yes, he caused me a great deal of trouble, so please ensure you discipline him thoroughly," I replied, spreading my hands. "A suggestion: use a whip, perhaps forgo the candle." "What?! Walson, I thought we were allies!" "I shall, thank you for the advice," Leica said, her laugh light and pleasant. "Leica, you too!?" "Lord Walson, I have a few questions for you. Could you possibly tell me... are you truly Prince John's son?" Leica asked hesitantly. Prince John? She must be referring to the man I just recognized as my father. "To be entirely honest, I cannot say for certain," I responded. "My father never disclosed his true identity to me, and he vanished several years before Chuck found me, so I am unable to confirm it." Despite Chuck's assurances, I opted for a guarded response. It's difficult to fully trust a stranger. In truth, I wasn't fabricating anything. In this current life, I have resided in an orphanage since I gained consciousness; I never encountered my parents. "Therefore, whether I am your crown prince or not, I cannot be sure..." "No, you must be. Although the King only performed the bloodline test on your sister, your status as crown prince is virtually assured," Leica stated confidently. Uh, wait, did I just hear something significant? "Bloodline test?"
"Indeed, when the King made contact with your sister, the ring upon his finger emanated a soft yellow light, a signifier of her possession of the Barlow family's royal bloodline," Leica elucidated. "As for you, you are the first dwarf in centuries to demonstrate the capacity for [Metalforge Manipulation] using Orihalcum steel. It's difficult to conceive of anyone not of the royal lineage achieving such a feat..."
What did he just say?!
Hold on, just a moment!
So, in addition to bearing the Mark of the Horned Demon, Tanaya also possesses royal lineage from the esteemed dwarf family?
