In LOMM, every race possessed innate abilities that players could upgrade using ability points. Without a skill tree, players acquired new abilities solely through their races, training, quests, and rare ability books.
'Given my name, I can only choose fire affinity... Wind would be a good complement to intensify my flames, and I'll invest the remaining points into upgrading my breath.'
Vesuvius confirmed his choices, concluding character creation. The interface vanished, leaving him in utter darkness.
'Is this the extent of my imagination?'
Suddenly, a new box materialized, shining brightly before his eyes.

Vesuvius attempted to move a leg, and it responded. A familiar urge resurfaced – the need to breathe. Rekindled with enthusiasm, he thrust his arm forward, striking a solid surface. It resisted, prompting a flurry of repeated punches until a cracking sound emanated from the impact point. With another strike, his arm pierced the shell, allowing a faint light to penetrate the interior. He rapidly expanded the opening with both arms, gasping for air. Once the gap was sufficient, he thrust his head through. A brilliant light assaulted his vision, causing him to flinch until his eyes adjusted. Above, a magnificent starry sky stretched out, illuminated by a full moon. Though not intensely bright, it was a stark contrast to the darkness his eyes were accustomed to, requiring time to adapt. Finally drawing in much-needed oxygen, he felt empowered to kick and thrash against the remaining shell with renewed vigor.
The shell finally gave way, and he tumbled onto the cold ground. Staggering on his four newly discovered limbs, he surveyed his surroundings. He and his egg lay amidst stones near a river flowing from snow-capped mountains on the distant horizon. The entire mountainous landscape felt strangely familiar, though he couldn't pinpoint why.
'So, the river must have carried my egg here.'

The hyper-realistic environment made him question the nature of his own consciousness.
'No... Wait, perhaps my capsule malfunctioned...' he pondered, but his train of thought was interrupted by a rumbling hunger in his stomach.
His gaze settled upon the remnants of his eggshell. An instinctive understanding guided him; it was akin to recognizing a delicious-looking pizza.
'It's a common trope for dragons to consume their eggshells after hatching...'
Vesuvius eagerly approached the shell, opened his maw, and took a bite. An exquisite taste flooded his senses, widening his eyes. He bit again, and all rationality evaporated as he attacked the shell like a ravenous beast, devouring it completely.
His consciousness only returned fully once the entire shell had disappeared down his gullet, despite its considerable size relative to him.
'Ahhh, that was incredibly satisfying,' he exclaimed internally, before swiftly making his way to a calmer section of the river to examine his reflection.
A petite dragon, roughly the size of a small motorcycle, stared back. Its scales shimmered with a metallic green luster over a base of deep red. Two short, black horns sprouted from its head, and a pair of diminutive black wings lay folded against its back. A tail, a meter in length, terminated in a sharp-looking point. A ridge of black spikes, resembling razor-sharp knives, ran from its neck all the way down its tail. Its reptilian eyes gleamed with a golden hue. Each of its four limbs ended in claws about ten centimeters long, and its lizard-like maw was packed with fearsome-looking canines.
'Awesome, I'm really a dragon!!!'
An overwhelming wave of exhaustion suddenly washed over him, causing him to falter. He instinctively understood that no predator would dare approach a location still permeated by the scent of a dragon, especially one near his hatched egg. Closing his eyes, he succumbed to sleep.
