Qiao Xi gathered her documents to register her marriage with Gu Moling as per her grandfather's wish. Qiao Rou framed her for a violent push, leading Gu Moling to slap Qiao Xi and profess his devotion to Qiao Rou. Mr. Qiao announced Qiao Rou would marry into the Gu family instead, aiming to control Qiao Xi and the company's shares. Qiao Rou then claimed pregnancy with Gu Moling's child, leaving Qiao Xi abandoned at the villa entrance under the scorching sun.

At the entrance to the Civil Affairs Bureau, Qiao Xi rested against a massive tree, her eyes narrowed as she scanned the stream of people going in and out.

From this crowd, she had to select a husband.

Mr. Qiao schemed to seize Qiao Corporation's shares via her wedding. There was no way she'd allow him that satisfaction.

A little distance away, Gu Zheng lounged against his car's front hood, checking his wristwatch now and then. Though his striking face remained expressionless, his intense displeasure hung in the air.

The driver wiped sweat repeatedly. “Young Master, we've just heard that the Meng family is searching desperately for Miss Meng. You may need to wait a bit more.”

“I've already waited 20 minutes.”

Gu Zheng glanced down to adjust his watch, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. “Tell the Meng family to stop looking. Cancel the marriage.”

Forcing anyone wasn't his style. If Miss Meng refused to wed him, he wouldn't push it.

The chauffeur faltered. “But the old chairman…”

The old chairman eagerly anticipated Gu Zheng tying the knot soon. They believed the union was inevitable, yet Miss Meng slipped away regardless.

“Hello, sorry to butt in. Did your marriage arrangement ditch you?”

Qiao Xi had watched them closely for some time before approaching to gauge their reaction. She flashed a faint smile at Gu Zheng. “My fiancé bolted too. We've both been stood up, so why not marry each other?”

Those words made Gu Zheng lift his gaze.

The lady before him shouldered a canvas bag. Beneath her loose sweater, her legs appeared long and slim. Her dark hair was simply pulled back. Delicate features and porcelain skin made her stand out.

“Huh?”

Gu Zheng lifted a hand to silence the driver mid-word. With a teasing tone, he remarked, “I don't know you at all. Why marry a stranger?”

Qiao Xi rubbed her nose tip. “Marry me, and you'll claim 65% of Qiao Corporation's shares. Reason enough?”

Gu Zheng arched a brow.

Qiao Xi gestured toward the nearby chauffeur. “I overheard your chat with him. I get that your family is pressuring you into marriage. Wed me, and you'll satisfy them while grabbing 65% of Qiao Corporation's shares. Best of both worlds.”

Fearing he might doubt her, Qiao Xi pulled out the share transfer papers and held them up for him.

“Qiao Corporation’s…”

A certain name surfaced in Gu Zheng’s thoughts. “You're Qiao Xi?”

Qiao Xi blinked in surprise. “You know me?”

Gu Zheng shook his head. He didn't personally know Qiao Xi, but he couldn't avoid the gossip swirling among those around him. They claimed the Qiao family's countryside-reclaimed eldest daughter was frail and ill, surviving only on pills. She supposedly lorded over ten servants using her status, coming off as dim-witted and crass.

Yet, she clearly defied those tales.

Truth was, prior to Gu Zheng's arrival, Qiao Xi had pitched her idea to several others, only for them to dismiss her as insane. One even threatened to summon the police, branding her a fraud.

Grown accustomed to rejections, she paused briefly without a reply, then prepared to seek another candidate.

But before her foot could move, a hand gripped her arm.

“Where are you off to?”

“You won't agree, so I'll find someone who will.”

Gu Zheng chuckled. “No need for others. I agree.”

Brushing off his chauffeur's stunned look, Gu Zheng headed for the Civil Affairs Bureau. “Got your ID and household register?”

Qiao Xi snapped to and hurried after him. “I did.”

She hesitated briefly before continuing, “Thanks. Rest easy—once we have the certificate, I'll hand over the shares. You won't lose out.”

Gu Zheng merely smiled in silence.

Twenty minutes passed, and Qiao Xi with Gu Zheng exited the Civil Affairs Bureau, each clutching a red marriage booklet.

The chauffeur's face drained of color.

“Where to? I'll have the driver take you.”

Gu Zheng angled his head toward Qiao Xi, who fiddled with her phone head-down.

Not lifting her gaze, Qiao Xi replied, “Your place.”

She'd planned to head to Gu Moling’s after marrying him today, so all her things from the Qiao family villa were already packed.

Even though she had switched her marriage partner, her intentions stayed exactly the same.

Gu Zheng arched an eyebrow. Heading to his residence?

His eyes dropped to the small red booklet gripped in her hands. Suddenly, it all made perfect sense?

The driver slipped into the front seat. He was utterly unable to wrap his head around how his young master had tied the knot with some mysterious woman!

Qiao Xi caught sight of the driver's odd look and silently queried Gu Zheng with her gaze, 'Can your driver be trusted?'

The last thing she wanted was a car crash mere moments after securing her marriage certificate.

Gu Zheng let out a soft cough and warned the chauffeur to drive with utmost care.

With her safety concerns settled, Qiao Xi shifted her focus back to her phone.

Silence hung over the entire ride.

Suddenly, Qiao Xi's phone began to ring.

“What’s the matter?”

Qiao Xi's tone was icy and aloof.

“What’s with your attitude? I’m your father!”

A vague murmur echoed from the phone's other end. The voice appeared to be grumbling that Qiao Xi was truly a rustic girl devoid of proper etiquette…
