Chapter 487 – Heart of Howling Dark Daemon
The Synthesis Process was stranger this time. Even stranger than when Kaden had obtained his Soul Core.
He understood why, feeling the enormous power of Space from his grandfather’s heart fusing with his own mangled, destroyed Heart of Fire.
Inside the Heart of Fire lived the Seed of Prometheus. A seed that had been almost completely obliterated by the Saintess back in the dungeon.
Yet something had survived. A flicker of white, screeching fire that refused to be extinguished no matter how hard the world pressed against it.
That wisp of fire — which was in truth the last vestige of Blanche — was what Kaden fused with his grandfather’s heart to recreate not only his Heart but also his Seed, and his companion.
Blanche. The White Phoenix.
Synthesis understood the assignment perfectly, and pushed itself to its absolute limit to bring into the world what its master wished for.
The Heart of Space mixed with the remains of the Heart of Fire. The space around the cocoon immediately tightened, as if two enormous palms were trying to clasp it together. Space cracked. Pale fire erupted alongside it, the two mingling in ways they had no business doing.
The process continued relentlessly. Inside the cocoon, Kaden Warborn went through a profound yet barely visible physical change.
The Mark of Burden on his back shifted, another star added beside Aurora’s name.
Raven Warborn was now permanently etched into his skin. Because the man had given his burden to his grandson without either of them knowing it had happened.
A skill was granted, then immediately pulled by Synthesis into the formation of the new Heart. A Heart no one could yet know the full nature of.
The process continued for several more minutes, Kaden moving through waves of both pain and pleasure, his perception slowly registering the rise of a new yet deeply familiar presence within him.
He smiled without realising it. His Heart coming into being. And with it, the soothing, flaming presence of Blanche.
Reditha found her lips pulling upward without her knowing, relieved beyond measure to feel the old, wise, gentle voice of the Phoenix returning to them.
But something was different about her aura. It was no longer the menacing heat and healing warmth from before. It was something else entirely, an aura from a howling dark place where fire raged without distinction and blanketed everything the way space encompassed all things.
Kaden and Reditha both felt it, mildly puzzled. Then their thoughts stopped entirely.
The process was over.
The cocoon enveloping Kaden dissolved into molten crimson-bluish light that scattered outward and sank into the freshly healed space around him.
He was left lying on the ground, completely bare from the process, his chiseled body visible — blue-crimson-golden-silver veins trailing across his skin like rainwater running down walls.
His black hair had grown longer, and shinier. His eyes held something mesmerising within them now. Before they had looked like a churning sea of blood, now they were entirely different.
The whites looked like mirrors. His pupils like fire, holding multiple colours at once, all bleeding into each other until red emerged. A red where other colours occasionally flickered like stars in deep space.
On his left chest, where his heart rested, sat a new tattoo.
A strange one, to say the least. An eye made of crimson stars, and a blue staff shaped like a Ladder beneath it, the eye positioned directly above.
"Huh..." Kaden exhaled faintly, releasing a thick plume of white steam, eyes closing briefly before snapping back open.
He looked at the notification panel appearing in front of him. But before he could even read it, his lips pulled into a quiet smile at the voice that graced his mind.
"...sweetheart?" Blanche said, her voice hesitant, as if unsure of her own words.
"Blanche." Kaden whispered, closing his eyes. "I have missed you."
The words seemed simple. They were simple. But the weight underneath them was something the Phoenix sensed perfectly.
She smiled. Something appeared in front of Kaden. He opened his eyes to slits, peeking through, and saw a Phoenix hovering before him.
It was Blanche. Different now.
Her body felt like space itself had reshaped into the form of a Phoenix. Her irises were crimson-gold, her dual pupils white and blue.
Her body was made of stars of different colours set against the deep darkness of space, a colour that sent a faint chill through Kaden.
"I have missed you too, sweetheart." She chirped, kissing his cheek. "Even though I remember nothing. It feels like no time passed at all."
"Time passed." He answered, his smile looking like a movement of muscles more than anything his heart produced. "And many things happened."
Blanche noticed the heavy weight behind his eyes and narrowed her own worriedly. "What happened, sweetheart?"
"Reditha will tell you." He deflected, then rose from the ground in one clean motion.
He stood straight, feeling his previous strength return and more besides. He cracked his neck, rolled his shoulders, slowly getting a feel for his new body.
Then he finally looked ahead, while behind him Blanche and Reditha began their own conversation. The sword had genuinely missed the Phoenix, yet the first thing she did was mock her new appearance.
Kaden had expected Blanche to ignore it. She didn’t. The Phoenix retorted like before, and a banter erupted between the two.
’I missed this.’ He thought, still smiling, eyes already reading the notifications.
They widened.
[You have reclaimed your Heart.]
[Your Heart of Fire has been transformed into a Heart of Howling Dark Daemon.]
Kaden raised an eyebrow at the name. Strange. Still, he pressed on.
[The Seed of Prometheus has been altered. Epimetheus blooms within it.]
[The Seed of Prometheus has now become the Seed of Metheus.]
[Blanche, the White Phoenix, has evolved, becoming the first Timesight Phoenix in the Mythical Phoenix bloodline.]
A sharp pause. Then the Will continued.
[Congratulations. You have reached the Absolute Limit of all your Stats.]
’Blood and ashes...’
