Journey to the End of the Night Chapter 1500 - 936: Jade Union
Previously on Journey to the End of the Night...
"This young lady, she truly is a woman of exceptional character."
Observing Li Jiujiu, who had fallen asleep crying in Baili An's embrace, Ying Ji's eyes held an undeniable hint of disdain. However, she refrained from vocalizing any objections, offering only a reluctant compliment.
Baili An found the situation both amusing and poignant. "Lady Jiujiu possesses a genuine heart. Had it not been for her back then, I would not have awakened so swiftly. She hails from an Immortal Sect, yet she shows no aversion to my identity as a corpse demon. For that alone, she is truly remarkable."
Ying Ji massaged her temples, a slight frown creasing her brow. "Lihe Sect? I understand. In a few days, I will have Shen Tu discreetly look after her."
Hearing this, Baili An realized his mother was indirectly accepting Jiujiu. He nodded, his own complexion paling, and inquired, "Why did I not see Bai Shuang with Mother?"
Baili An's face was ashen, and Ying Ji's complexion also turned a shade of white.
"The impact from the Golden Immortal Bai Yang was immense; no one knows where you were flung. We searched for you separately. Bai Shuang and I still maintain contact... She is aware that I have found you, but she is currently occupied with certain matters and cannot extricate herself at the moment. We can proceed to Wusu County to find her."
Wusu County?
It happened to be along their route to Shifang City.
Yet, Baili An could not fathom what could possibly keep Yin Baishuang occupied for so long.
Due to the lingering Thunder Power within Baili An, he was unable to ascend too high into the heavens. A persistent rumbling of thunder filled the sky, making travel by Sword Control perilous, thus necessitating a carriage.
Fortunately, the steeds Ying Ji had procured were spirit beasts, possessing considerable speed.
After nightfall, they had traversed three mountains and four rivers.
As they halted by a stream to rest after an all-night journey, Baili An and Ying Ji, with their pale faces unable to utter a word, peered out of the carriage windows from opposite sides.
A silent, shared understanding passed between mother and son.
"Ugh, ugh, ugh... ah ah!!!!!"
"Ugh, ugh, ugh... ah ah!!!!!"
Bright lights erupted, accompanied by a continuous stream of vomit. Baili An was so overcome that his eyes rolled back, while Lady Ying Ji lost all semblance of her empress composure, dissolving into sobs and sniffles.
Li Jiujiu, hearing the earth-shattering commotion, was alarmed. Clutching a handkerchief, she hesitated, unsure to whom she should offer it.
It seemed that little An's susceptibility to carriage sickness ran in the family.
Wen Hanwei, seated in another carriage, disembarked upon hearing the noise. She observed Baili An's stark white face, his lips tinged with red. The carriage below him was spewing forth blood, resembling a gruesome scene of murder, quite terrifying in the darkness.
She jumped in shock and hurried over. "Why are you vomiting blood so violently? Is an old injury acting up again?"
Baili An repeatedly shook his head, unable to articulate clearly. "Quick... quick, help my mother... catch her breath... we... both are a bit carriage sick."
Witnessing Lady Ying Ji on the verge of fainting at the carriage window, Wen Hanwei was utterly bewildered. Even the great battle between the forces of light and darkness back then had not reduced this Empress to such a state.
Wen Hanwei's lips twitched, finding this explanation utterly speechless.
The two of them hastily assisted the weakened Lady Ying Ji from the carriage, finding a small stone for her to sit upon. This provided Li Jiujiu with an excellent opportunity to demonstrate her attentiveness. She swiftly offered Ying Ji water, fanned her, and began massaging her back and legs.
Baili An himself stumbled down from the carriage, having vomited quite intensely. His face was covered in blood, and he was unsteady on his feet, nearly toppling over as soon as he alighted. He quickly grasped the wheel of another nearby carriage, narrowly preventing himself from falling.
"Young Master Baili, mind your step, be careful," came an unfamiliar female voice from within the carriage.
A sudden stir emanated from his Qiankun Bag; the jade token he had acquired from the serpent's body within the Bronze Gate seemed to resonate faintly. He looked up to see, beneath the plain woven silk curtains, the silhouette of a tall woman.
Her fine silver hair cascaded gently behind her, her waist was straight and slender, her face softly contoured, and her dense, snow-white eyelashes layered like frosted silver. Upon closer inspection in the dim light of night, her eyebrows and eyes revealed captivatingly aloof features.
Baili An had not noticed this woman seated in the other carriage throughout their journey.
"Who... are you?"
The woman replied, "Cangwu Palace, Immortal Music Palace, Lin Xi."
Baili An paused for a moment, his gaze drifting to the black ancient zither resting on her lap, his expression subtly shifting. He then remarked, "So it was Hall Master Lin who came to our aid in our time of peril."
A hand as white as snow delicately pushed aside the silken curtain, unveiling a pair of vacant, silver-gray eyes.
Despite their lack of life, the eyes held a striking clarity, possessing an allure akin to the frost on winter snow or the distant stars in the night sky.
After a brief pause, a soft voice inquired, "Does Young Master Baili possess the half jade token bearing the character 'Tian'?"
Baili An felt another jolt of surprise. He had never spoken of the jade token he acquired from the serpent within the Bronze Gate to anyone. Aside from Fang Geyu, no one else should have known about it.
It wasn't until Lin Xi brushed aside her wide sleeves and produced a fragment of a jade token, identical in its star-patterned design to his own, that Baili An understood.
The texture and coloration of her jade token were precisely the same as the one he held.
Baili An then retrieved his own jade token. When he brought the two pieces together, the existing cracks aligned flawlessly.
As soon as the two halves were joined, a subtle azure luminescence emanated from the seam. The shattered jade, seemingly devoid of spiritual energy, now appeared to contain an immense, dazzling, and beautiful starry ocean.
