Isekai Nonbiri Nouka Chapter 1074: Yame’s Life on an Inhabited Island IV
My name is Yame.
I’m the caretaker of the island.
So I take care of visitors to the island.

Beezel and Pugyaru have gone home.
They were polite right until the end, and very easy to deal with.
However, something Pugyaru mentioned in casual conversation was a little shocking.
It was about my treasure.
Apparently, my treasure had been discovered.
And there had been a pretty major conflict over it that continued for quite some time. No, no, I thought there was a possibility that it wasn’t actually my treasure, but apparently my name was written on the box containing it.
I remember writing it.
So it was mine.
I feel terribly sorry.
If it was going to lead to a conflict, I should have just given it to someone openly instead of hiding it.
But if I’d given it to one person, there definitely would have been a fight over it anyway.
Hmm. Maybe it was inevitable sooner or later?
I’ll just convince myself that it was a conflict that couldn’t have been avoided.

The next visitors were Village Chief and Loo’s son, Alfred, who came using Ancestor-san’s teleportation magic.
Apparently, Alfred is developing an island of his own, and he came to me because he wanted to use mine as a reference.
I’m happy he came, but isn’t he actually ahead of me in developing his island?
My place only got houses fairly recently.
Are you sure?
Well, it’s good that he’s motivated.
Feel free to look around as much as you like.
Ah, most of the things you don’t understand are Village Chief’s doing.
Yeah, like that field.
And those caves over there.
That house up in that tree is being used as a playground by the chickens.
But no one who can’t fly is allowed in.
It’s dangerous.
All those wells scattered around the island were dug by Village Chief.
I was really surprised that they produced fresh water even though they’re so close to the sea.
They’re all covered except for the one with the pump attached, though.
It’s dangerous if someone falls in.
Not that we would fall in, but the chickens might.
Yeah, one of them did fall in once.
It managed to jump its way back up along the wall of the well, but it seems it got injured when it fell.
Oh, it’s fine.
I healed it with healing magic.
I’m not very good at it, but somehow I managed.
Ah, the chickens will come up to you, but don’t let your guard down.
They’ll peck at the tops of your feet and your shins.
They really know exactly where it hurts, don’t they?

Alfred stayed on the island for about three days.
I think he’s a better cook than I am.
He was a huge help.
I kind of wished he would stay a little longer.

After Alfred left, I thought Ursa would be the next visitor, but it was Village Chief who came.
Apparently, after hearing about Alfred’s time on the island, he couldn’t stand it any longer.
He’s childish in strange ways.
Still, he’s welcome here.
This time, Village Chief’s purpose was to scout a location for a lighthouse.
-0-
Lighthouse.
Apparently, the seakins had requested that we build one to show ships that the island exists.
I have no problem with building a lighthouse on the island, but the problem is where to put it.
A lighthouse illuminates the night, but that would disturb the lives of the people living on the island.
Simply put, having it bright at night would be troublesome.
It would bother me too.
So the summit of the mountain in the center of the island is out.
Absolutely not.
That’s why the High Elves on the island took their time carefully selecting a location.
The place they chose was a rocky area on the eastern side of the island.
We’ll build it there and have it illuminate the waters to the east of the island.
It’s a slightly protruding area, so I think it will be easy to spot from the sea.
Conversely, from the island, cliffs and forests will block the view, so it shouldn’t be noticeable unless we build an extremely tall lighthouse.
Unless we build an extremely tall lighthouse.
It’s important, so I made sure to repeat that several times where Village Chief could hear me.
Well, in reality, we could limit the area illuminated by adjusting the lighthouse’s light itself.

Village Chief inspected the location and gave the final approval for construction.
The design of the lighthouse had already been decided in consultation with the seakins.
Above all, it needs to be sturdy.
And we want it to be bright enough to provide as much illumination as possible even during bad weather.
But having it bright all the time would be troublesome, so it should preferably have an adjustable brightness function.
-0-
The magic tool for the lighthouse’s light was something Village Chief had brought with him.
A magic tool about twice the size of Village Chief.
Maybe because it has a large magic stone installed, it’s incredibly bright.
Bright enough to blind you if you look directly at it.
That was dangerous.
The brightness can be adjusted…?
Good.
-0-
Then, let’s get started on building the lighthouse…
I’d like to say that, but we’re waiting for Yuri.
We want to use the Arti-Horse Aqua, the multipurpose humanoid underwater mobile heavy machine, for the construction.
Well, we’re not in any particular hurry to build the lighthouse either, so we’ll take our time.

Dinner was ramen made by Village Chief.
Soy sauce-based chashu ramen, with extra bean sprouts.
Mmm, delicious.
I learned how to use chopsticks while staying at Big Tree Village.
No problem.
I can even pick up beans.
Tofu is still a little difficult, though.
Ah, I also helped make the gyoza served with the ramen.
The ones that look a little misshapen are the ones I made.
Fufufu.
Food tastes even better when you know you made it yourself.

After Village Chief left, a group from the Demon King’s Kingdom arrived using Beezel’s teleportation magic.
「Thank you for having us.」
Excluding Beezel, there were twenty-five of them, including the Demon King.
I’m not entirely sure why, but the Demon King and the others had come for something called a baseball training camp that would last three days and two nights.
They’re welcome to stay, but the inn can’t accommodate that many people.
The Demon King knew that too, so apparently they’re going to set up tents outside and sleep there.
All we have to do is provide meals.
We’re being given food and money for it, so I have no complaints.
The High Elves and Lizardmen staying on the island seem to be helping with the Demon King’s baseball training camp too.
Yeah, do your best.
Feel free to use the beach and the open area.
Ah, if you’re playing baseball… the western side of the island would probably be best.
It’s fairly spacious.
And the grass is short.
The beach is another option.
Ah, though, there might be trash on the beach in the morning, so be careful.
It should be cleaned up by noon, so if you want to use it, afternoon would be better.
Ask one of the High Elves or Lizardmen about it.
And try not to get too close to the birds and chickens.
If you bully them, I’ll get angry.
Get along with the seakins too.
No fighting.
Er, right.
If the weather looks like it’s going to get bad, take shelter in the inn.
It’ll be cramped, but we can fit you all inside.
You can also evacuate using Beezel’s teleportation magic.
You can decide for yourselves when to do that.
But if we tell you to evacuate, you have to follow our instructions.

For a while, the island echoed with shouts of 「Fai-o!」 and the sounds of baseball.
TN: They were shouting “Fight” and replied with “Oh” in engrish. Yeah, no way this ancient devil understood.
I learned the rules of baseball.
They’re pretty complicated.
I even got to participate for a bit.
I played in the outfield.
Yeah, it was fun.
Though the ball never came my way.
What about batting?
Think about it calmly for a moment.
Don’t you think it’s impossible to hit a small ball with such a flimsy stick?
I think it’s impossible.

Yame「My treasure? If you want it, I’ll give it to you! Go find it! I left everything there!」
Bulga「With the way that line goes, wouldn’t you be executed immediately afterward?」
Yame「I-I’ll revive, so it’s fine.」
TN: That’s the synopsis of “Pirate Life in Another World”. It all started with the execution of Empress D. Yame and the spread of the will of D(devil).
-0-
Bulga「So, what exactly is this treasure?」
Yame「The salary I received when I was representing the Empire.」
Bulga「That’s more pathetic than I expected.」
Yame「I also have the deeds to some land.」
Bulga「Wouldn’t it cause an enormous mess if those turned up now?」
Yame「It wouldー」
-0-
Yame「Bacchi-koi!」
Demon King「That’s a call used when you’re playing defense. You’re not supposed to say it while you’re batting.」
Yame「Then, Picchi-koi?」
Demon King「That… might be acceptable?」
TN: They are shortened for バッター、打って来い(Batter, come hit it at me!) and ピッチャー、投げて来い!(Pitcher, throw it!).
