Xiao Ming addressed rising tensions between noble and poor students in schools with Pang Yukun, rejecting proposals for exclusive noble academies backed by high officials like Minister Wang Chengye and imperial relatives. Outraged by local suppression of complaints and plans for private elite schools, he ordered Qian Dafu to orchestrate a response and prepared a prohibitive decree. At Qingzhou Advanced School, noble student Fei Tong confronted a commoner boy for sitting in the nobles' section, escalating classroom divisions.

The classroom's atmosphere abruptly turned tense.

Fei Tong advanced slowly toward the youth, eyes blazing with savage intent. He belonged to the esteemed Fei family, where his great-grandfather served as a cabinet minister.

Above all, Fei Ji, his great-grandfather, had just one daughter and no sons, so per Fei family traditions, his father was set to become the next patriarch, making him the natural successor.

With such a status, who in Qingzhou City would dare challenge him?

The youth cast a glance at the nearing Fei Tong, displaying no fear while neatly arranging his desk books.

Students from poor families held their breaths, silent and still. This newcomer had appeared in the class that morning, unknown to them, but his plain clothes revealed his lack of wealth.

“I’ll say it again, get to the west side! Otherwise, you’ll be lying down when you get there.” Fei Tong leaned heavily over the desk, face twisted in smug arrogance.

“No!” the young man replied icily. “This classroom was founded by the Emperor to serve all common folk across the realm, not for certain people to act superior. Here, no one is above another.”

These words twisted Fei Tong’s features in rage. The elite students rose to their feet.

How interesting. I didn’t expect to meet a troublemaker today.” A noble student sneered. “Brother Fei, someone wants to break our rules today. What should we do?”

“Exactly! He must have an incredible amount of guts. The Emperor gives you a little face, and you think there is no distinction between high and low? Bah!”

“Brother Fei, stop wasting your breath. Just give the order, and we’ll kill him here and let the people of Qingzhou Senior School see what a rule is.”

With the crowd egging him on, Fei Tong's boldness surged. He grabbed a stool from the ground and swung it viciously at the youth.

Yet the young man moved quicker still. Before the stool struck, his fist smashed into Fei Tong’s face.

A thud of fist against flesh echoed. Fei Tong howled, crashing to the floor with blood flooding his mouth.

Fury boiled in Fei Tong at being struck by a lowly commoner. As curses rose in his throat, teeth and blood sprayed from his lips.

The other noble students stood stunned. In Qingzhou Senior School, poor kids typically suffered bullying without retaliation.

But now, someone had dared strike Fei Tong, the school's little tyrant. Shock froze them momentarily.

The humble students were equally stunned, yet a wave of satisfaction washed over them. That punch felt incredibly gratifying.

“Kill… kill him for me!” Fei Tong, humiliated like never before, screamed in frenzy.

The noble youths rolled up sleeves and rushed in. Fei Tong even unsheathed a dagger from his belt.

As the nobles swarmed the young man, Fei Tong stabbed his dagger into the youth’s belly. Blood spurted when he yanked it free.

Time froze in that instant. The noble students shrank back in terror. In the cleared space stood only the youth and Fei Tong gripping the bloody dagger.

The young man stared in disbelief at the dagger in Fei Tong’s grasp. He clutched his gushing wound, then collapsed.

“Someone’s been killed!”

A shriek erupted from the west-side seats. Humble students bolted from the room for help, while others hurried to aid the fallen youth.

“Brother Fei, you, you’ve killed someone. What should we do?” a noble student stammered in panic.

Imperial law decreed equal punishment for princes and commoners who broke it. Though bold in daily arrogance, murder terrified them. Fights could be hushed, but killing demanded consequences.

“What’s there to fear? Just a worthless life, right? Easy to handle.” Fei Tong seethed with anger.

He spun to his family attendant at the door. “Rush home now and fetch my father. Tell him to fix this.”

Terrified, the attendant eyed the bloodied youth on the floor and fled.

Meanwhile, word of Fei Tong's killing spread like wildfire through the school. Teachers and medics arrived swiftly. After basic care, they rushed the youth to the hospital.

“Come here! Arrest Fei Tong and send him to the security office!”

Security guards stormed in, alarmed. After quick questions, the head guard barked sternly.

“How dare you!” Fei Tong bellowed. “I am Fei Tong of the Fei family. Fei Ji, cabinet minister, is my great-grandfather. Try touching me.”

The head guard paused briefly. “I uphold the law without bias. No matter your identity, you come with us now. Arrest him.”

Ordered to act, the guards grew rough. They forced Fei Tong down, bound him with waist ropes.

Fei Tong spat curses. “Just wait, all of you. When my great-grandfather and father arrive, they’ll slaughter you.”

The head guard's face stayed impassive. He snorted and exited the classroom.

Once guards departed, Qingzhou Senior School's principal, who saw it all, warned the teachers gravely. “No one mentions this. Back in class, silence your students. Refuse all reporter interviews.”

A teacher replied, “Principal, it's blown up. Can't cover it. If the Emperor hears, we're doomed.”

“The Emperor juggles endless state matters. No time for this. But Fei family students span the world, with courtiers everywhere, especially in education. Offend them, lose your jobs,” the principal sighed deeply.

All shook heads. They calmed students and returned to classes.

Fei’s Mansion.

Fei Yuhe relaxed by fishing in the home pond when Fei Tong’s frantic attendant arrived, recounting the killing.

“What, my eldest son killed someone!”

Before Fei Yuhe responded, Fei Liu shrieked upon hearing. As Fei Tong’s mother, she’d come seeking him and caught every word.

Fei Yuhe, scholarly in his thirties, furrowed brows deeply. “That brat! Arrogance is one thing, but murder? He enrages me! Let the guards haul him off.”

Fei Liu snapped anxiously, “Nonsense! Tong’er’s your son, Fei family heir. The dead one’s a mere commoner. Would you destroy his future?”

Fei Yuhe’s outburst was mere anger. Calmed, he summoned the butler. “Notify every Qingzhou newspaper: no coverage. Same for the school. Then, locate the student’s family, pay them off.”
