Ye Haochuan arrived at Skywolf City, intent on finding Long Keyue. He encountered a greedy and arrogant city guard who demanded an exorbitant bribe. When Niu Kui intervened and nearly struck the guard, Ye Haochuan stopped him, leading to the arrival of a furious guard captain.

“Captain, quickly… capture them…”

The cultivator who had narrowly escaped Niu Kui’s near-fatal blow and was subsequently rescued by Ye Haochuan desperately cried out to the Guard Captain, his voice choked with sobs.

“What in the world transpired here?”

The Guard Captain, a man of sharp intellect, surveyed the scene with a grave expression and inquired in a deep voice.

His intimidating demeanor caused the assembled guards to tremble under his stern gaze.

This captain was known for his stringent discipline; any hint of bribery would spell ruin for his subordinates.

“Captain, these individuals attempted to force their way through, and when we intervened, they resorted to attacking us…” one guard offered, his eyes darting nervously.

“You openly solicited bribes and now you attempt to frame us; how despicable!” Niu Kui exclaimed in outrage upon hearing the guard’s statement.

“Silence!” the captain’s voice cut through the air, sharp and commanding. “To attempt forcing your way into the city gates—are you courting death?”

“Haha, so you are indeed in league with them!” Ye Haochuan burst into laughter, his voice laced with sarcasm. “To play the part of a righteous official while clearly favoring your subordinates—it’s truly a laughable display!”

“What did you just say?” the captain bellowed, his face flushing with fury. “My life has been dedicated to justice, and you accuse me of favoritism?”

“If you were not biased towards your men, why would you readily accept their account and assume we were attempting to breach the city?” Ye Haochuan questioned with a smirk.

“This…” Captain Qin found himself momentarily speechless.

A nearby guard sneered, “If you weren’t attempting to force your way in, then why did a confrontation with us occur? Captain, do not heed their fabricated stories; apprehend them swiftly!”

“A fight? Are you certain we engaged in combat with you?” Ye Haochuan suddenly inquired with a chilling chuckle.

“You…” The guard faltered, a flicker of understanding crossing his face as he grasped Ye Haochuan’s subtle implication.

Ye Haochuan let out a soft chuckle and then instructed, “Niu Kui, engage them lightly. Mind you, do not take their lives!”

“Understood!”

Without a moment’s hesitation, Niu Kui hefted the Giant Que and brought it down with immense force towards the guard who had demanded bribes. It was evident that this guard had incurred Niu Kui’s deepest ire.

Witnessing this, Qin Tian’s brows knit together slightly, a dawning realization apparent in his eyes.

In the ensuing moment, he resolutely raised his weapon to parry Niu Kui’s devastating strike.

Allowing his subordinates to be harmed in his presence was an affront he could not tolerate.

However, he had profoundly underestimated Niu Kui’s formidable strength. Despite his timely interception with the large spear, the Giant Que’s blade cleaved through it as if it were made of brittle clay, shattering it into two pieces.

Furthermore, the residual force from the impact sent tremors through his hand, causing it to crack.

“How is this possible…” Qin Tian stammered, utterly bewildered. The opponent possessed the same cultivation level as himself, with no sign of Flower Energy conversion, yet his might was astounding.

Even more stunned than Qin Tian was the guard who had initiated the bribery demand.

He had believed Qin Tian’s intervention had secured his safety, only to witness his captain being utterly outmatched, unable to withstand even a fraction of the opponent’s power.

As the colossal sword, akin to a massive plank, descended towards his head, overwhelming terror seized him, rendering him incapable of fleeing or even uttering a plea for mercy.

Regret washed over him—how could he have been so foolish, relying on his position as a guard to extort others? It was a path leading directly to his doom!

“Halt!” Ye Haochuan’s command, resolute and unwavering, echoed through the air.

Niu Kui, seemingly anticipating the order, abruptly ceased his attack as Ye Haochuan spoke, the Giant Que hovering mere inches above the terrified guard’s head.

A collective gasp rippled through the onlookers, marveling at how Niu Kui could control the massive sword with such seemingly effortless precision.

Though the weapon itself had stopped, the formidable Gang Wind generated by its swift descent still managed to rip away the guard’s hairpiece, scattering his severed locks into the air.

The bribe-demanding guard, overwhelmed by sheer terror, promptly fainted.

“I thank you both for your magnanimity!” Qin Tian suddenly declared, his voice filled with gratitude.

He now understood Ye Haochuan’s intent. Had they truly been attempting to force entry, these mere pawns would have been swept aside in an instant; they could never have engaged them for such an extended period.

Given the guards’ blatant falsehoods, Ye Haochuan’s claims were undoubtedly valid.

“Still unwilling to confess?” Qin Tian’s expression turned severe as his cold gaze swept over the remaining guards.

A wave of fear washed over the guards, recognizing the genuine anger radiating from their captain.

Without delay, one of the guards recounted the preceding events to the captain in meticulous detail.

Upon concluding their account, they pointed towards the fallen guard and proclaimed, “Captain, it was entirely his doing; we bear no responsibility!”

“A collection of fools—you’ve tarnished my reputation!”

Qin Tian, far from being naive, understood that the culprit was not solely one man; they were all complicit.

“Return to the barracks; I shall administer a lesson this time. Otherwise, you will never comprehend the gravity of your actions!”

Upon hearing Qin Tian’s pronouncement, the guards’ faces turned ashen, yet they dared not voice any pleas, acutely aware that Qin Tian’s punishments were invariably harsher the more they begged.

As they departed, the unconscious guard was taken along. In a desolate corner, he was 'affectionately' subjected to a barrage of punches and kicks, a transfer of their pent-up frustrations and impending punishment. The poor guard, already out cold, was brutally jolted awake, his incessant wails echoing.

After the others left, Qin Tian turned to Ye Haochuan and Niu Kui, offering an apology, "It is my fault for being negligent in my duties. Please, forgive me..."

"No worries, no worries!" Ye Haochuan, perceiving Qin Tian as a genuinely upright individual merely burdened by insubordinate subordinates, found his demeanor towards the Guard Captain significantly softening.

"By the way, Captain Qin, have you happened to see this woman?" Ye Haochuan presented a photograph of Long Keyue on his phone, posing the question.

"This woman..."

The Guard Captain, casting a glance at Long Keyue's image on Ye Haochuan's phone, was struck by her striking beauty. After a moment of careful recollection, he regretfully shook his head.

Reluctantly, he summoned the guards who had already departed, interrogating them with meticulous detail. Only upon receiving confirmation from all that none had seen Long Keyue did he provide his final answer to Ye Haochuan.

A sense of dread washed over Ye Haochuan upon hearing this news.

Skywolf City boasted several formidable entry points, yet this particular gate stood as the closest to Mushan County. If Long Keyue had indeed arrived, this would have been her most probable point of entry.

These guards were solely responsible for the security of this city gate. Their collective statement of not having seen Long Keyue implied she had not yet made her appearance.

"In that case, my sincere thanks, Captain!"

Ye Haochuan, with a generous gesture, produced several hundred red crystals, intending to offer them as a token of appreciation to Qin Tian.

However, Qin Tian firmly declined, stating that attempting to bribe him would be an offense.

Ye Haochuan was convinced of his genuine integrity, recognizing it was not mere ostentation.

After parting ways with Qin Tian, Ye Haochuan, with Niu Kui in tow, entered the bustling expanse of Skywolf City.

Undaunted, he continued his inquiries as they ventured further in, but the outcome remained the same: no one had sighted Long Keyue, further exacerbating Ye Haochuan's growing unease.
