Invincible Little School Doctor Chapter 2004: 2004: Could That Excuse Be Any More Fake?
Previously on Invincible Little School Doctor...
Once the red crystals were handed over, Auntie Wang and the other villagers turned their focus from Ye Haochuan toward the White Tiger.
“A pity, my husband, Uncle Wang, injured his bones recently. Could I perhaps have these tiger bones to help him recover?” Auntie Wang was the first to voice her request.
Before the burly man could even reply, the rest of the crowd quickly added their own demands.
“Your Uncle Zhu has long desired to savor tiger meat. I’ll take half the slab to satisfy his craving…”
“My health hasn’t been optimal lately; I require the tiger’s heart and liver for replenishment…”
“My husband, Uncle Li, isn’t as capable as he used to be; I’ll take the tiger whip to aid him…”
“…”
The women continued their clamor, effectively dividing the entire enormous tiger, down to the very last bone, leaving the imposing man with absolutely nothing.
It was then that Ye Haochuan understood. These people weren’t there to greet the hunter; they had clearly arrived to claim his spoils of war.
While they spoke of replenishment and satisfying cravings, each individual walked away with dozens of pounds of tiger meat and organs, more than enough to last them quite some time. Meanwhile, the man who actually hunted the beast received no share whatsoever.
Ye Haochuan had initially assumed the tiger hides displayed outside each village home were the result of the villagers’ hunting endeavors. Now, it was evident that these magnificent beasts’ pelts were exclusively the product of the burly man’s efforts.
The large man appeared unfazed, offering a simple, wide grin. “Let’s go, benefactor. My home is just up ahead!”
Ye Haochuan’s brow furrowed slightly. This man was undoubtedly strong, but perhaps not the sharpest tool in the shed. To be so shamelessly taken advantage of, yet he seemed pleased.
“You’ve given all the meat to your neighbors; what will you eat at home?” Ye Haochuan couldn’t help but inquire.
“It’s just me at home; I can eat anything. Their needs were more pressing; if I hadn’t given them some, wouldn’t they have felt terrible?” the big man responded nonchalantly.
“Heavens, you truly are endearingly foolish!” Ye Haochuan exclaimed, a hint of exasperation coloring his tone.
These villagers weren't merely opportunistic; they were blatantly greedy!
“Everyone says I’m adorable. Did you notice it too, benefactor?” the big man inquired, a touch of “bashfulness” in his voice.
Ye Haochuan was now completely convinced. It was a good thing this fellow didn’t have parents; they would have surely died of frustration.
Before long, the pair arrived at a dilapidated straw hut.
While the small village wasn’t particularly prosperous, every other dwelling was constructed from stone and tile, appearing sturdy and warm. This dilapidated hut, however, couldn’t even keep out the wind, looking worse than the outhouses of other families.
Ye Haochuan wasn’t surprised. With all his earnings being distributed among the neighbors, how could the big man possibly amass the funds to repair his home?
The villagers were utterly selfish, indulging themselves without a second thought for the big man’s well-being. Anyone with a semblance of decency would not have overlooked his plight.
“Oh no, all the meat has been given away. There’s nothing to serve the benefactor!” The big man suddenly realized, slapping his forehead. “Benefactor, please wait here. I shall go and ask for some back!”
With that, he hurried out the door.
Ye Haochuan let out a wry chuckle inwardly; if he could actually retrieve any of the meat, that would be incredibly fortunate.
As expected, within minutes, the big man returned with a dejected expression. “I was too late; they’ve already consumed all the meat. It seems we’ll have to make do with some sweet potatoes, benefactor!”
Damn it, an entire household devouring dozens of pounds of tiger meat in mere minutes? Could that excuse possibly be any more fabricated?
Ye Haochuan cursed silently.
He had anticipated that these people wouldn’t willingly part with what they had taken, but he hadn’t expected their excuse to be so utterly shameless. Only someone as guileless as the big man would fall for it.
“Never mind, I have my own food!” Ye Haochuan managed a bitter chuckle, retrieving his own provisions.
Upon spotting the beef jerky in Ye Haochuan’s hand, the big man’s eyes gleamed, and he swallowed hard. “Can I really have some? I haven’t tasted meat in ages!”
“Eat to your heart’s content!”
Before Ye Haochuan could finish his sentence, the big man had already stuffed a generous portion of beef jerky into his mouth, chewing with evident delight.
Observing him in such a state, Ye Haochuan felt a stir of emotion.
It is often said that people are inherently good. Kindness and innocence are not flaws; it is the surrounding malice and avarice that permit the exploitation of the kind-hearted.
With this thought, an idea suddenly sparked in Ye Haochuan’s mind.
This big man, living here and being preyed upon constantly, might perhaps be better off accompanying him.
As soon as the notion arose, it began to take root and grow within Ye Haochuan’s thoughts.
His consideration wasn’t solely based on sympathy; he had his own calculations, too. The big man possessed formidable combat abilities; if properly harnessed, he could prove to be an invaluable ally.
At present, Ye Haochuan himself lacked sufficient strength. With such a powerful associate, his endeavors within the Immortal Realm would undoubtedly proceed with greater ease.
“Um… Brother, how do you feel about your current life?” Confirming his idea, Ye Haochuan tentatively asked.
“It’s okay; just a bit boring!” The big man replied without hesitation, “Every day, I just wander in the mountains. If I go too far, I’m afraid I won’t find my way back.”
“Do you want to go out and see more of the world?”
“I do! Of course, I do. Benefactor, are you willing to take me along to explore?” The big man, perhaps his mind unexpectedly clicked, actually learned to reply with a question.
Ye Haochuan chuckled, thinking it might be difficult to recruit the big man, but it turned out to be so easy, it was as if heaven was assisting him.
Seeing Ye Haochuan agreeing, the big man jumped with joy.
“I must go share this good news with Auntie Wang and the others to make them happy too!”
Leaving that sentence behind, the big man ran out of the house.
Ye Haochuan couldn’t help but smile; how could those people be happy? They’re likely feeling the urge to cry!
Indeed, within moments, a group of angry men and women ran over, cursing at Ye Haochuan: “You bastard, I knew you were up to no good. How dare you trick Yi Bi into leaving with you? Tell us, what’s your real intention?”
“What could it be? You’re trying to trick Yi Bi to sell him off, aren’t you? Scum like you should be beaten to death with sticks!” Auntie Wang yelled angrily, not waiting for Ye Haochuan’s reply.
“Exactly, it’s just that Yi Bi is foolish, thinking it’s a good thing, counting money even after being sold!”
“This wretched heart of his is utterly vile, even tricking an innocent child like Yi Bi…”
“Sisters, what’s the point of saying so much? Grab your stuff and beat this bastard to death right here, so he can’t go out and harm others!”
It’s unclear who suggested this, but everyone agreed, promptly pulling out their weapons.
This time, it wasn’t just a few aunties, but nearly ten robust men as well, each possessing Nascent Soul mid to late stage cultivation. The village’s only Nascent Soul Peak individual was also among them.
