Insect Tamer's Ascension Chapter 482. A genius plan made by ant queen
Previously on Insect Tamer's Ascension...
After concluding his training, Theo promptly made his way to the carriage, with Warren at the reins, directing them towards the section of the slime forest known for its ant inhabitants.
"We have arrived," Theo announced, disembarking from the carriage.
Without a word, he strode forward with purpose. Before he realized it, he was standing before the ant colony.
A broad smile stretched across his face as he beheld a massive anthill protruding from the earth.
He knelt, his fingers brushing against the anthill’s surface. Its texture was coarse, reminiscent of clay that had been moistened and then allowed to dry and harden.
From a nearby opening, a pair of luminous antennae emerged, followed shortly by the rest of an ant.
Theo maintained his posture, his expression conveying palpable astonishment. Even Clara and Elias, though unable to discern his features precisely, sensed the intense aura radiating from him.
The ant's head and formidable mandibles were astonishingly large—twice the size of its body, which was already considerably bigger than that of a typical ant.
With swift movements, the ant scurried towards Theo’s hand and climbed upon it.
Theo raised his hand, examining the creature with keen interest. The ant was not only as large as his entire palm, which had naturally grown with his age, but its body extended nearly to the base of his palm.
However, this impressive size was not the sole astonishing characteristic. The creature's breadth gave it the appearance of an actual miniature tank.
Its carapace, colored like the surrounding earth, possessed a subtle sheen from the side, with a rocky texture running through its central mass.
The ant lifted its powerful mandibles. At this precise moment, Theo calmly extended his other hand, positioning his index finger between the mandibles to gauge their crushing strength.
Clara and Elias chanced to look over at his hand at the most dramatic juncture—only to witness Theo nonchalantly holding his finger between the colossal mandibles of the giant ant.
Theo detected a tingling sensation as the mandibles applied a slight pressure, even as the ant queen attempted to convey that no significant force was being exerted.
He retracted his finger and retrieved a small, dry twig from the ground.
With deliberate care, he placed it between the large ant’s mandibles. It felt as though the ant queen was intently observing. The instant the twig came within range, the mandibles snapped shut with a swift, decisive motion, severing the twig into two distinct pieces.
Theo’s eyes widened further in astonishment.
"It's not merely the strength that has increased... the cut is remarkably clean," he murmured aloud, gazing at the fractured twig remaining in his grasp.
His expectation was that the mandibles would crush the twig, perhaps causing it to crack, but that the fibers would remain connected, holding the halves together. Complete separation was unlikely.
Yet, this was decidedly different. The mandibles had utterly obliterated that stick. It was cleanly bisected, as if sliced by a sharp blade.
And it wasn't alone.
He observed numerous other heads beginning to emerge, each possessing the same intimidating mandibles. The attendants accompanying him watched, their faces paling with apprehension at the sight of the rapidly expanding anthill.
"If someone were to stumble onto this mound..." Elias began, but the mere thought sent a shiver down his spine before he could complete the sentence.
"That would undoubtedly inflict severe harm. These creatures also possess acidic venom in their bites," Theo remarked matter-of-factly. He gently tapped the mandibles of the ant before returning it to the anthill.
"Very well, grant me five minutes of solitude," Theo requested, lowering himself to the ground to sit.
Closing his eyes, he issued a mental command: ’Let me survey the colony’s state.’
Instantly, two visions, akin to camera feeds, materialized before his eyes. Since his eyes were shut, they appeared solely within his mind.
The initial screen depicted a vast chamber—its ceiling extended so high that Theo could scarcely perceive its entirety through the ant's perspective. Below, the heart of the colony pulsed with activity.
The brood numbered in the hundreds, perhaps even thousands. They were arranged in orderly rows, some even stacked upon one another.
Initially, Theo was uncertain if the brood had enlarged since the ants attending them appeared to be of the same size.
However, upon noticing one of the large-mandibled ants positioned near the brood, nearly matching its size, Theo deduced that the brood had indeed experienced significant growth.
The subsequent vision revealed another chamber, adorned with dozens of spherical objects spaced at uniform intervals throughout. Approximately fifty such objects were present, and judging by the chamber’s dimensions, their considerable size was apparent. Theo couldn't help but notice a striking resemblance between their core structures and that of a moss slime’s core.
As this thought coalesced, a subtle emotion flowed through his connection with the ant queen.
’You wish to show me something else... certainly,’ Theo inwardly communicated.
The two screens dissolved, coalescing into a single, unified display.
This time, Theo recognized that the imagery pertained to memories rather than a real-time view from an ant.
Within the vision, an immense moss slime loomed in proximity to the ant colony, appearing colossal from the ants’ vantage point. The subsequent image captured it altering its form and sealing the very entrance the ants utilized to access the surface.
Theo then witnessed another sight: the moss slime contorting its form, extending downward into the subterranean passages. It encountered a solitary ant and swiftly amplified its slime production, totally enveloping the unfortunate creature. The ant was ensnared, perishing within the viscous goo. However, before the moss slime could retreat, a contingent of formidable burrower ants, distinguished by their enormous mandibles, stormed the scene. They savagely bit at the slime from numerous positions, compelling it to recoil. A segment of its gelatinous mass was severed and left behind as a solitary globule. Within that minuscule droplet... the trapped ant remained imprisoned. The surrounding ants converged, exerting their utmost effort to dissolve the slime particle by particle, until, at long last, the ensnared ant was liberated. That particular day represented a significant turning point for them. For the very first time, the ants experienced the slime produced by the moss slime, not the precious cores that Theo typically supplied, but the raw, unadulterated essence itself. With the assistance of the worker ants' specialized digestive systems, the ant queen also partook in this novel substance. It was at this juncture that a profound realization dawned upon her. The slime proved to be remarkably abundant in vital nutrients, offering far greater advantages to the ant colony than they had initially surmised, particularly benefiting the developing brood and the newly hatched larvae. And from that day forward, their pursuit of the slime transformed into an unyielding obsession... until the ant queen devised a strategy of unparalleled ingenuity.
