Bai Xiaosheng meets Wen Yu, whom he believes to be Wen Yan's brother. Wen Yu is immediately hostile and critical of Bai Xiaosheng's actions and demeanor, admonishing him for being too ostentatious. Bai Xiaosheng, in turn, rejects Wen Yu's unsolicited advice and demands to know his right to critique him. Wen Yu then reveals he invited Bai Xiaosheng to discuss secrets, noting Bai Xiaosheng's current significant positions.

The words caused Bai Xiaosheng to slightly narrow his eyes.

For this Wen Yu to know Bai Xiaosheng’s identity, he absolutely had to be from the Group, at the very least holding a position like a regional chief or higher. Yet, among the seven vice chairmen and six division heads, all were known to him; there was certainly no such person. Could he be managing something like HQ administration or logistics?

“Your appointment even passed through my hands for signature. Who do you think I am?” Wen Yu stated plainly.

That remark made Bai Xiaosheng pause for a moment, and then his eyes suddenly contracted. To be able to approve an appointment at his level, even a vice chairman might not possess such authority, unless— No, this guy...

Bai Xiaosheng immediately sat up straight, fixing his disbelieving gaze on the other man. “Your guess is correct,” Wen Yu said slowly, seeing his reaction. “I am the current acting chairman of the Zhenbei Group!”

That declaration made Bai Xiaosheng draw a sharp breath. He had indeed wondered before: after his second grand-uncle mysteriously vanished, who was temporarily leading the Group? Initially, he suspected the top council; later, he learned of an acting chairman, but their identity remained unknown. That individual was far too low-key and enigmatic—absent from media coverage, with the higher-ups maintaining strict silence. He had never imagined it would be this man before him?

Bai Xiaosheng looked at this man, who was only slightly older than himself, and a question suddenly arose in his heart: What right does he have?

“I believe you might have deduced it. Wen Yan and I are brothers, and I am the elder one,” Wen Yu explained. “It’s just that we aren’t related by blood.” This information also left Bai Xiaosheng somewhat taken aback.

Then, steadying his mind, he looked at Wen Yu with puzzlement and asked, “You two brothers—one is the acting chairman, the other oversees the Supervisory Department, which ranks above the vice chairmen. That means you two—” Bai Xiaosheng murmured in a low voice, “Currently, don’t you essentially control the Group?”

Wen Yan is not an ambitious person, but who knows about this Wen Yu! The entire Group could be said to be under the control of these brothers. If they were to join forces, it wouldn’t be out of the question for the Group’s ownership to change hands! A sense of wariness surged through Bai Xiaosheng.

“You needn’t concern yourself with that. My relationship with Wen Yan has never been good. You could say we’ve always been on opposing sides,” Wen Yu stated mildly. Bai Xiaosheng didn't believe a word of it. His thoughts raced—should he contact Situ Yin later to inquire about this?

“Furthermore, our current positions were decided by Grandpa,” Wen Yu added slowly. Bai Xiaosheng was deep in thought and initially paid no attention to that sentence. Suddenly snapping back to attention, his eyes widened in disbelief as he looked at Wen Yu.

“This is the second matter I wished to clarify when meeting you today,” Wen Yu continued unhurriedly. “From what I understand, Wen Yan didn’t inform you, Mr. Situ didn’t tell you, and they even kept my existence hidden from you. They intended for me to meet you in person and discuss all of this with you myself.”

“You just mentioned, ‘Grandpa’?!” Bai Xiaosheng’s gaze locked onto Wen Yu’s eyes, solely intent on pursuing that question. Wen Yu nodded.

“Bai Xiaosheng, I am actually aware of who you are. I know you are a grandson of Mr. Bai Zhenbei, his blood relative,” Wen Yu stated, not following his lead but proceeding according to his own agenda. What he was discussing was precisely the identity Bai Xiaosheng had always kept strictly concealed. And the other party knew as well! Bai Xiaosheng couldn't help but tense up, staring at Wen Yu, awaiting his next words.

“I even know that you entered the Group with the intention of taking the chairman’s seat,” Wen Yu continued. “But rest assured, I will not obstruct your path in achieving that... as long as you possess the capability!” In that final sentence, both in tone and expression, Wen Yu exuded intense “hostility.”

“Are you always this indirect and off-topic when conversing with people?” Bai Xiaosheng couldn't be bothered how much the other knew about him—after so many shocks, he was almost numb. He was solely focused on understanding the meaning behind that particular form of address earlier!

Bai Xiaosheng asked in a low voice, “Tell me, the ’Grandpa’ you referred to, could it possibly be...” His voice even sounded hoarse with emotion.

“Bai Xiaosheng, your second grand-uncle, Mr. Bai Zhenbei, did indeed have no descendants,” Wen Yu said slowly. “However, in his later years, he adopted two individuals—not as sons, but as grandsons. He gave them names: one was Bai Xuanyu, the other Bai Xuan Yan. They also had other names—Wen Yu and Wen Yan.” Those words completely stunned Bai Xiaosheng where he stood. So Wen Yan and Wen Yu actually held such identities!

Observing his expression, Wen Yu proceeded unhurriedly, stating, "Presently, within the entire Group, only Wen Yan, Mr. Situ, and myself are aware of your identity. Furthermore, aside from Mr. Situ, Wen Yan and I are forbidden to intervene in any matters concerning you. I remain unaware of your entry into the Group and your rapid ascent through its ranks. At most, my role involves merely approving certain appointments. However, I surmise that as you were brought into the Group by Grandpa's associates, your ultimate objective is the leadership position. Yet, you are not the sole contender for this ambition. I shall stand as your adversary. I will not permit you to seize control of the Group with such ease! The reason being, in your current state, you are undeserving!"

Wen Yu openly declared his opposition to Bai Xiaosheng's face.

His gaze was chillingly cold, even tinged with a subtle hint of contempt.

Bai Xiaosheng remained silent, still processing the declarations of Wen Yu—Bai Xuanyu.

Bai Xuanyu waited with an impassive demeanor for him to regain his composure.

Shock, anger, a sense of injustice, perhaps an explosive outburst directed at this unexpected rival who had materialized out of nowhere, proclaiming himself the sole rightful heir, the one true successor...

Bai Xuanyu awaited Bai Xiaosheng's response.

Bai Xiaosheng shut his eyes, inhaled deeply, and then exhaled slowly. Subsequently, he opened his eyes once more, directing his gaze at Bai Xuanyu, his expression now calm.

"So, there were many things I remained ignorant of," Bai Xiaosheng remarked slowly. As he looked at Bai Xuanyu, his eyes gradually took on a determined quality.

That particular look, naturally, did nothing to elevate Bai Xuanyu's estimation of him.

"I express my gratitude, Mr. Wen Yu, for all your contributions to the Group. However, the Group does not yet belong to you, nor do you possess the authority to make all the final decisions. Should you wish to contend with me, I shall await you at the culmination of this race." Bai Xiaosheng then rose to his feet. "I presume you have conveyed all that you intended to me. I have other commitments, thus I shall not prolong my stay. I imagine an acting chairman also has a demanding schedule, so let us conclude our meeting here."

Bai Xuanyu made no move to impede his departure, nor did he utter another word.

Bai Xiaosheng refrained from further discourse and walked purposefully towards the door.

Their exchange concluded in such an unexpectedly frigid manner.

No harsh words were exchanged, no dramatic pronouncements were made—the entire encounter appeared serene and uneventful.

Yet, it was precisely because of this understated conclusion that when the inevitable confrontation arrived, it would undoubtedly be a fight to the absolute end!

Only after the door had swung shut behind Bai Xiaosheng did Bai Xuanyu turn his head to face it, his eyes remaining perfectly placid.

"The purpose of my laying bare these matters to you today was to make it unequivocally clear—" Bai Xuanyu seemed to address Bai Xiaosheng through the closed door. His voice, though not loud, possessed an unhurried yet immensely serious tone. "This Group is not a mere trinket for anyone to casually claim! It represents my life's ambition, and I shall never relinquish my pursuit of it!"

Outside, having already put some distance between himself and the door, Bai Xiaosheng was, naturally, unable to catch that final declaration from Bai Xuanyu.

He now needed time to reflect.

To contemplate numerous aspects.

Outdoors, Chen Feiqiu was succumbing to extreme boredom, engaging in conversation with Bai Xuanyu's two imposing bodyguards.

In truth, they offered no responses whatsoever. It was entirely Chen Feiqiu talking merely to himself, playfully "teasing" them.

Despite receiving no replies, Chen Feiqiu continued to amuse himself, even embarking on telling jokes.

One could easily discern that were it not for his unique standing, those two stoic individuals would have been actively contemplating how to terminate his existence right then and there.

Just as Chen Feiqiu was fully occupied in irking those around him, he suddenly heard the door open and observed Bai Xiaosheng emerging. He promptly consulted his watch and approached.

"You were inside for less than thirty minutes, and your discussion is already concluded? What exactly transpired between you two? Surely you didn't claim ignorance of your own Group's acting chairman, did you?" Chen Feiqiu was brimming with inquisitive energy.

Bai Xiaosheng cast a glance in his direction and offered a slight smile. "Chen, I find myself rather fatigued today."

Chen Feiqiu regarded him with evident surprise.

"I shall be returning now." Bai Xiaosheng placed a hand on Chen Feiqiu's shoulder. "Another day, I'll definitely invite you out for some skewers!"
