After a series of project reviews, Mr. Fiewood organized a farewell ceremony. Later, Fiewood met with his secretary, Matilda, who had convincingly acted to mislead Bai Xiaosheng. Bai Xiaosheng, however, saw through the act, realizing the clues were deliberately planted. He informed Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying that he would play along with the deception to exploit the situation for their benefit.

Seizing the opportunity presented by the business delegation's inspection tour, Fiewood, the general manager of Yorko Company, furnished Bai Xiaosheng and his team with fresh investigative leads. The entire process, however, was shrouded in artifice, even employing a staged charade to simulate an accidental disclosure. It was, without a doubt, a meticulously planned endeavor.

A new complication has emerged.

Yorko Company operates directly under the jurisdiction of Mr. Tike, the Executive President of the African Region, implying Fiewood should be his subordinate. Therefore, by logical extension, the mastermind behind instructing Fiewood to supply these clues would supposedly be Tike himself.

"During our inquiries, we uncovered that Tike is Mr. Brown's godson. Publicly, he appears entirely deferential to Mr. Brown. If Mr. Tike orchestrated this, wouldn't that be akin to undermining Mr. Brown's son, Cilio, when he's already in a precarious position?" Lin Weiwei voiced, a note of disbelief in her tone.

Having realized she was manipulated into participating in a staged event, Lin Weiwei felt a justifiable displeasure.

"If it were Tike pulling the strings, would he employ his own operative? Should word get out that his subordinate leaked information, how would he face Mr. Brown? An explanation would be impossible! Given our findings, Mr. Brown, despite a loss of face, retains his authority, and his standing within the Group remains robust, unlikely to be easily destabilized," Lei Ying posited. "Wouldn't Tike be inviting unnecessary trouble?"

Past experiences had shown them that a trusted confidant could, in reality, be an adversary's agent, deliberately sowing discord to sabotage their efforts. It was conceivable that Mr. Tike might be such an individual, perhaps even oblivious to his own unwitting role.

"So, who else could be orchestrating events from the shadows?" Lin Weiwei mused, her fingers stroking her chin.

"Numerous possibilities exist," Bai Xiaosheng responded with a casual chuckle. "Have you perhaps forgotten? The genesis of this entire investigation is intrinsically linked to Miss Caroline, who resides across the ocean."

The mention of her name instantly brought a look of surprise to Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying's faces.

How could they have overlooked that particular woman!

After all, the Jenny they had previously encountered was dispatched by Caroline.

"Could it be that Fiewood from Yorko has also been swayed by Caroline?" Lin Weiwei inquired, her brow furrowed. "Then, why would she be assisting us?"

"My suspicion is that she aims to pit us against Mr. Brown of the African Region, allowing her to observe the conflict from a distance and capitalize on the ensuing chaos," Lei Ying offered.

The situation suddenly began to coalesce into a clearer picture.

"I'm not suggesting Fiewood is Caroline's pawn. Engage your imagination freely, break free from conventional thinking, and explore unconventional angles," Bai Xiaosheng advised with a smile. "Have you considered any other affiliations Fiewood might possess?"

Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying exchanged glances, regarding Bai Xiaosheng with a mixture of curiosity and wonder.

Someone else?

"Mr. Brown," Bai Xiaosheng revealed, a smile playing on his lips.

This revelation left Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying momentarily speechless.

Mr. Brown would arrange for Fiewood to provide information that could potentially implicate his own son once more?

It seemed utterly improbable, a leap of logic too vast, too audacious.

"Has he lost his mind?" Lin Weiwei managed to swallow before murmuring the question.

"Among the questionable businesses we are investigating, traces of Caroline's influence are present. Could Mr. Brown suspect that these companies under his purview have been secretly compromised, and he's utilizing our investigation to purge these issues?" Lei Ying speculated, following this unusual train of thought.

"Then, what about his son? Is he simply... to be abandoned?" Lin Weiwei remained unconvinced.

Lei Ying let out a soft laugh. "With Mr. Brown's capabilities and methods, he possesses numerous avenues to exonerate his son, Cilio, and prove he was merely sidelined. Moreover, not all the enterprises implicated by the new evidence are directly under Cilio's control."

Lin Weiwei pondered for a moment, finding a sliver of logic in the suggestion, and murmured, "Yet, this entire scheme is truly... perplexing."

Lei Ying nodded in agreement.

"Are you taking this conjecture seriously?"

Bai Xiaosheng cheerfully interjected, cutting through their astonishment. "I was merely engaging in free-form speculation, exploring divergent thoughts. As for the actual truth, I confess, I haven't the faintest idea."

Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying blinked in surprise, unable to resist casting a sideways glance at Bai Xiaosheng.

He had articulated his theories with such conviction, yet he claimed ignorance and lacked any concrete basis...

"So, what is our next course of action?" Lin Weiwei asked softly.

The uncertainty regarding the true puppeteer created an uncomfortable, disquieting atmosphere.

Bai Xiaosheng smiled. "As we discussed earlier? If there are clues, we investigate. If there are problems, we uncover them! Regardless of who is orchestrating this, or what their ultimate objective may be! We will follow the path laid out for us, to a certain extent, but we won't be blindly led. Why complicate matters unnecessarily?"

Upon hearing Bai Xiaosheng's pragmatic words, Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying felt a sense of relief, as if a burden had been lifted.

Indeed, they were always the doers, leaving the mind-boggling tasks of strategizing against the opponent to Bai Xiaosheng.

In an instant, they both "figured it out."

"Now that we have these new clues, for this week, you should all refrain from taking action. Investigate in secret instead, have the staff in the Monitoring and Inspection Department keep it as covert as possible," Bai Xiaosheng instructed with ease.

Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying exchanged a glance at his words.

"Xiaosheng, are you afraid of alerting the enemy?" Lin Weiwei couldn’t help but ask.

Lei Ying also said, "Is it because the previous phase of the investigation has ended, and you don’t want to push too hard, making Mr. Brown think we’re determined to target his father and son, causing overwhelming resistance and constant trouble?"

Their speculation seemed reasonable.

Bai Xiaosheng laughed, "Actually, I think we shouldn’t be used as pawns for nothing. At least the one who wants us to carry out tasks should provide a few more rounds of ammunition, huh? Having loud results upfront would only make them too pleased."
