Bai Xiaosheng attempted to broker a peace and secure a new cooperation, rushing to Kaido City to meet Mr. Brown. Despite delays and attempts to contact him, Bai Xiaosheng and his team waited for hours at the "Xuanjin" company building. They were eventually informed that Mr. Brown was not in the city and had left on a visit, with the assistant emphasizing Mr. Brown's punctuality and Bai Xiaosheng's tardiness.

Upon hearing the young Black man, who identified himself as Mr. Brown’s assistant, declare that their employer would wait no longer and had departed, Bai Xiaosheng and his companions grasped the situation instantly.

From the outset, it was clear Mr. Brown had never intended to meet with them!

The seemingly brief two-hour travel time was, in fact, a deliberate trap set for Bai Xiaosheng.

This also explained why, midway through their journey, Bai Xiaosheng’s attempts to contact Mr. Brown to explain their predicament went unanswered—

The man simply had no intention of taking his calls!

Though Bai Xiaosheng possessed considerable skill in interpreting microexpressions, vocal inflections, and emotional cues, he had overlooked this possibility at the time, failing to discern the true meaning behind Mr. Brown’s emphasis on the schedule.

It truly felt beneath someone of such supposed importance to resort to such petty stratagems!

Yet, Mr. Brown had chosen to act in precisely this manner.

Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying subtly knitted their brows, sensing a distinct lack of integrity from the other party.

Bai Xiaosheng’s expression remained composed as he addressed the young Black man. "Indeed, our travel took longer than anticipated. I had intended to call Mr. Brown to explain, but I was unable to reach him. Regardless, we were the ones who missed the appointment. I will personally offer my apologies to Mr. Brown. Might I inquire as to his current whereabouts and his expected return time?"

Bai Xiaosheng exhibited remarkable patience and sincerity in this matter.

However, the young Black man seemed entirely unmoved, maintaining a slight smile and an air of nonchalance. "Mr. Bai, your kindness is deeply appreciated. I believe Mr. Brown will understand your circumstances. As for his current location, he does not confide such details to someone like me, so I am unaware. Regarding Mr. Brown’s return..."

The young Black man flashed a wide, white smile and continued, "Perhaps in another hour or two..."

Another hour or two?

Behind Bai Xiaosheng, Lin Weiwei couldn't resist glancing at her watch.

Did they truly believe their time held no value?

Bai Xiaosheng's standing was undoubtedly on par with, if not superior to, Mr. Brown's, and even with utmost sincerity, he should not be subjected to such a wait!

"Or perhaps three or four hours..." the young Black man appended.

This was even less reliable – three or four hours!

Lin Weiwei’s frown deepened.

"Or it's possible Mr. Brown might not return at all today," the young Black man added with a chuckle.

Lin Weiwei felt a sense of resignation wash over her.

To wait an entire day here, only to potentially not even meet the person, what was the purpose!

Bai Xiaosheng remained silent.

"However, I would suggest you wait here a little longer. I will attempt to contact Mr. Brown by phone, and if I succeed, I am certain Mr. Brown will recognize your sincerity and return as swiftly as possible," the young Black man advised Bai Xiaosheng.

His words carried a distinctly perfunctory tone.

Lin Weiwei felt an urge to interject on Bai Xiaosheng’s behalf:

We have other pressing matters and are pressed for time; perhaps we shall visit another time...

"Very well, we shall wait here a bit longer then," Bai Xiaosheng replied unexpectedly, offering a smile to the young Black man.

Both Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying were astonished, and even the young Black man appeared momentarily taken aback, seemingly not anticipating Bai Xiaosheng’s decision.

The young Black man then cheerfully nodded towards Bai Xiaosheng. "Please, make yourselves comfortable. I shall arrange for someone to bring you more coffee."

Bai Xiaosheng gave a slight nod.

After the young Black man departed, Lin Weiwei couldn't refrain from asking Bai Xiaosheng, "Xiaosheng, Mr. Brown is clearly playing games with us; must we really wait here?"

"No matter how long we wait, it might simply be a complete waste of our time!" Lei Ying chimed in.

Bai Xiaosheng maintained his calm posture, replying leisurely, "Since we have already come this far, it would be best to gain something from this visit, which we can then report to Director Hou. Let's not discuss it further; simply wait here patiently with me. I have my own considerations."

With Bai Xiaosheng's assurance, Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying had nothing more to add.

Before long, an attendant entered, carrying coffee.

Bai Xiaosheng observed their attire, noting they seemed to hold a position above that of ordinary staff. As he accepted the coffee, he inquired, "Do you happen to work for the 'Xuanjin' Company?"

The attendant, recognizing Bai Xiaosheng's significant standing, responded with a swift smile. "Yes, I am the secretary from the general manager's office. Mr. Brown specifically instructed that you are esteemed guests and should be attended to with the utmost care. The general manager was concerned that other staff might inadvertently cause you discomfort, hence my assignment."

This explanation was quite flattering.

It was apparent that the general manager misunderstood Bai Xiaosheng's true nature, as he was, in reality, quite easygoing and not at all demanding.

Both Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying silently shared this thought.

Unexpectedly, while conversing with the secretary, Bai Xiaosheng's demeanor abruptly shifted to sternness. He let out a quiet snort and declared, "Actually, I am feeling quite displeased right now!"

The secretary stared, astonished by Bai Xiaosheng’s sudden change in expression, and couldn't help but be taken aback.

Bai Xiaosheng's voice was laced with coldness. "I've been waiting here for a considerable time, yet your general manager has yet to make an appearance. What is the meaning of this?"

"Furthermore, is this coffee even fit for consumption? I daresay I've never encountered such a dismal brew!"

"Do you happen to have any Huaxia green tea? Let's make that exchange!"

Bai Xiaosheng's words were sharp, as if he were deliberately seeking a confrontation out of sheer idleness, a behavior rarely seen.

The secretary, caught off guard by Bai Xiaosheng's volatile temperament, appeared somewhat discomposed.

"Go at once and fetch your general manager. I require an explanation regarding the arrangements for our midday meal!" Bai Xiaosheng commanded, gesturing dismissively.

The secretary, who had been on the verge of offering an apology, found the words caught in their throat upon witnessing Bai Xiaosheng's stern countenance.
