Infinite Job Transfers Starting from Mechanic Chapter 1261 - 713: A New Story
Previously on Infinite Job Transfers Starting from Mechanic...
For the subsequent period, Su Yu remained within the laboratory, consuming viruses and vaccines alike. He absorbed the Spiritual Qi contained within, growing progressively more potent.
Outside the lab's confines, the city's rampant mutations began to subside, a direct result of the widespread vaccine deployment. Thankfully, the anticipated nuclear strike never materialized, and it appeared Su Yu had successfully averted this looming catastrophe.
However, Su Yu maintained his vigilance. He was acutely aware that an enigmatic entity, possessing the Power of Narrative, lurked behind the scenes, capable of rewriting the very fabric of reality at any given moment.
As expected, even before Su Yu could fully ingest the last of the viruses and vaccines, his surroundings abruptly shifted. The visual field before his eyes flickered and then stabilized, revealing that he was once again in his own home, lying on his bed in his familiar room.
"Could it be a new storyline has begun?" he mused. It was evident that the clandestine entity had once again manipulated the narrative.
While this entity might not have been able to directly alter Su Yu himself, it possessed the ability to manipulate his immediate environment, effectively displacing him from one location to another with an apparent instantaneity.
The underlying rationale for these environmental transmutations held little significance. After all, the entity wielded the Power of Narrative, a force that enabled the effortless fabrication of logical justifications. As long as the altered sequence wasn't entirely nonsensical or devoid of coherence, the narrative could continue its progression.
Long ago, Su Yu had acquired mastery over the power known as "Paradox," which allowed him to manifest desires from nothingness. This power bore a superficial resemblance to the Power of Narrative, yet it was encumbered by stringent limitations. Each paradox exacted a toll, and only a single wish could be enacted, its influence confined strictly within the bounds of the Primordial Universe.
In stark contrast, the Power of Narrative was near-absolute. It could be modified at will, provided such alterations did not induce a logical paradox. The extent of its malleability was virtually limitless.
Were it not for Su Yu's unique standing as an "Audience Reader," a quality that rendered him somewhat immutable, he would have long ago been expunged without a second thought, much like any other inconsequential element.
Knock, knock, knock!
The distinct sound of knocking reverberated once more. Su Yu extended his consciousness, gazing through the peephole to ascertain the situation outside. What he observed was not a person, or rather, not a living being. Instead, the area was strewn with bloodstains, and a still corpse lay on the ground.
The deceased individual was a young woman, presumably Su Yu's designated "wife" within the current narrative, though this was his first encounter with her. Blood seeped from her seven orifices as she lay motionless, the cause of her demise remaining an enigma. The exact source of the persistent knocking, however, remained unseen, adding to the disquieting scene.
Knock, knock, knock!
The insistent knocking sounded again. Su Yu's expression grew serious as he sensed an immediate peril if he failed to address the door before the next rap. After a brief moment of contemplation, Su Yu opened the door just before the subsequent knock.
An immediate wave of chilling sensation washed over him, akin to an unseen entity attaching itself to his being. Concurrently, a piece of vital information was imprinted upon Su Yu's consciousness.
"Nine Deadly Knocks, the Knock Curse?" Su Yu murmured, processing the revelation.
According to the information received, he was now afflicted by this curse. He had a mere ten minutes to locate another living individual, knock on their door, and if they answered within nine knocks, the curse would transfer, leaving him safe. Failure to comply meant certain death.
The person who opened their door would consequently inherit the curse. The corpse on the floor had met her end because she couldn't reach Su Yu's door to perform the ritual. Despite her demise, the curse had persisted, finding its way to Su Yu's door through some unknown mechanism.
"So, they've resorted to mechanism-based eliminations now..." Su Yu pondered, acutely aware of the dwindling time and the dire consequence of inaction. Yet, he remained outwardly calm, carefully analyzing the chilling energy that now permeated him. He recognized it as an Extraordinary Energy, distinct from the Spiritual Qi he was accustomed to.
His initial attempt to directly absorb this foreign energy proved fruitless. It was too advanced, operating on principles beyond his current ability to assimilate such potent power. He then attempted to utilize his Super-quality Conversion technique, aiming to transform it into Super Quality for absorption. While he managed to absorb a minuscule amount, the process was exceedingly arduous and wholly insufficient to complete within the allotted ten minutes.
Disregarding the ticking clock, Su Yu persisted in his absorption efforts. As the ten-minute mark drew near, he nonchalantly snapped his fingers. The female corpse on the ground stirred, rising and then walking into Su Yu's room.
Su Yu then proceeded to the door, rapping thrice – knock, knock, knock. The door creaked open, revealing the female corpse standing before him. Su Yu could feel the chilling energy transferring from himself onto the deceased woman. The ten-minute deadline was effectively reset, eliminating the immediate threat to his life. The original curse stipulated the necessity of a living person answering their door for survival.
However, Su Yu had managed to recover some strength by absorbing the essence from virus samples.
This regained vitality enabled him to make entries in the Book of Narrative.
The power available was minimal, allowing for the alteration of just a single word before complete exhaustion set in.
But one word was all that was needed.
Su Yu had precisely modified the narrative, changing the original requirement of finding a living person to open the door to simply "person."
By altering this one word, the condition shifted to finding anyone, irrespective of whether they were alive or deceased.
Consequently, Su Yu directly manipulated the corpse to satisfy the curse’s stipulation.
Once the corpse's door was forced open, Su Yu entered the room, and then the corpse proceeded outside to knock, transferring the curse's power back to Su Yu.
This act refreshed the time limit once more, allowing Su Yu to resume absorbing the curse's energy.
As the ten-minute threshold loomed, he promptly directed the corpse to enact the curse transfer again, thereby resetting the time limit.
In essence, Su Yu resolved to remain within the confines of this room, waiting out the ordeal. The curse had seemingly been overcome; venturing outside risked encountering unforeseen curses embedded within this narrative.
Seemingly sensing that its curse held no sway over Su Yu, and upon his absorption of a portion of its power, the surrounding environment underwent another transformation.
"Not again?"
Su Yu surveyed his new surroundings, discovering he was no longer in his room, nor merely off-world, but appeared to be aboard a starship.
Strewn across the metallic deck were numerous bodies, each with their skulls brutally opened, their brains removed, their lifeless eyes fixated in an eternal stare.
"Missing brains? Devoured by a creature, or perhaps..."
As Su Yu contemplated these grisly remains, a sharp, throbbing pain erupted in his own skull, as if something was violently attempting to breach his cranium.
He instantly grasped the situation—it was his brain, seemingly asserting sentience and endeavoring to escape his physical form! The corpses scattered about had likely met their end in this very manner.
"The brain separating from the body?"
With a surge of resolve, Su Yu began to inscribe within the Book of Narrative.
Fueled by the preceding curse, Su Yu's strength had seen a partial recovery, granting him the ability to write seventeen characters.
He had to leverage these seventeen characters to secure his own survival.
