Infinite Awakening: My Exp Doubles Everyday Chapter 469: The Path To Heaven
Lost in contemplation, Xiang Yu stood silent.
He shifted his gaze toward Li Yao. "This girl…" he muttered, shaking his head in disbelief.
Her period of mourning had lasted mere seconds before she returned to her erratic behavior. She was currently busy binding his physical body. While he watched her, a sudden vibration resonated through the entire world.
“What is happening?” he questioned.
Expanding his spiritual sense across the realm, he identified the source.
“It can’t be,” he thought. The Sage was actually in the process of dismantling the Heavenly Dao barrier.
Events were unfolding far too quickly. Why was the structural integrity of the world failing so soon?
A tense smile played on his lips. Below that Heavenly Dao protection, he had established Sage-grade formations throughout the land. Surely, the Sage wouldn't be able to bypass those? Despite the thought, his self-assurance withered with every breath.
Just then, the Empress materialized. Her eyes moved from Li Yao, who was hoisting her Senior Brother, to Xiang Yu as he watched the sky with visible anxiety.
[Has something gone awry?] she inquired.
Xiang Yu let out a heavy sigh. “Yes.”
The Empress studied him closely; it had been a long time since she had seen Xiang Yu so unsettled. She glanced toward his primary body and sighed as well.
[If it is your wish, I could…] she started to offer, but he cut her off.
“It’s fine. The barrier is still holding…” However, the words had barely left his mouth when the barrier shattered into fragments.
[As you were saying…] the Empress remarked, her physical form manifesting around her soul. She inspected her own hands. Finally, she had regained the body she had yearned for. Even so, her eyes drifted back toward Li Yao.
Xiang Yu moved to stand before her. “Don’t be afraid. I am still here at the Martial Peak realm. I should have the strength to oppose the Sage. Furthermore, even if the two of you were to fuse, you would only reach the second path of the Sage realm,” he clarified.
Xiang Yu ascended then, rising to the world’s zenith and stepping into the void beyond for the very first time. He came face-to-face with the Sage. The resemblance she bore to his wife was uncanny.
He realized he had to lure her away from the planet. A confrontation between two beings of the Sage realm would bring total devastation to the world below.
She focused her gaze on him. “Senior Brother?” she whispered.
“No, merely a clone,” she corrected herself, appearing instantly at his side.
“Incredible speed!” Xiang Yu felt a surge of panic.
The situation was becoming precarious.
Invoking a time-stop, he forcibly teleported her several light-years into the distance and gave chase.
...
A short while earlier, Sage Li Yao had been diligently unraveling the Heavenly Dao protection. She had been humming a happy tune while thinking of her Senior Brother when she suddenly froze, her face darkening.
“Senior Brother is in peril,” she realized. “I have to go to his aid,” she declared firmly.
She glared at the Heavenly Dao protection blocking her path.
It was the only thing standing between her and her Senior Brother’s safety.
As she puzzled over a solution, a series of numbers flickered across her vision. “This…” A rush of memories returned to her. She recognized it—this was her unique innate ability, the “Path to Heaven.”
It was a specialized power that granted her the ability to calculate every probability.
The realization hit her; if she could use this, it meant…
[Indeed, I have finally awakened,] a voice echoed within her mind.
“The false persona is attempting to seize control,” she thought, clenching her teeth.
[What false persona? I am clearly the original consciousness,] the Sage of Causality retorted, though she followed it with a sigh. Reasoning with this girl was pointless. She had only managed to slip past the mental suppression because the girl’s emotions had become so volatile. This was her chance to break free.
[Regardless, I can assist you in saving your Senior Brother. You only need to surrender the body to me,] she proposed.
“No.” Li Yao’s refusal was instantaneous.
The Sage was stunned. [What? Is saving your Senior Brother not your priority? I possess the method,] she pressed.
“No. I will not hand over this body. You will simply tell me what I need to know,” she stated with unwavering resolve.
“This girl… does she not understand who holds the power here?” the Sage marveled.
[Hmph, and why would I ever tell you?] the Sage challenged.
Without hesitation, Li Yao raised her hand and plunged it through her own midsection. Blood sprayed violently from the wound.
[What in the world are you doing? Do you think you can threaten me with my own body?] she demanded. [You are inside it too, you fool. If this body perishes, we both cease to exist,] the Sage reminded her.
“What of it? It is only death. I do not care,” Li Yao answered, preparing to strike herself again.
The Sage realized the girl was truly insane. [And what of your Senior Brother? If you die, who remains to rescue him?] she asked.
Li Yao broke into a fit of manic laughter.
“A world without Senior Brother is a world I cannot inhabit. My love for him is so great that I welcome death. I am certain Senior Brother feels the same. He must be so miserable without me that he has chosen to end his life. I shall follow him. We swore to find one another in every reincarnation. Even death is trivial. It is a form of liberation. In our next life, we won't be separated by such distances. We will finally be one. Ah, just the thought of it… Aaaaahh, I can’t stop myself. I’m truly losing my mind,” she spiraled, her Qi surging as she prepared to self-detonate.
“I wonder what the sensation of dying is like. To think I’ll share the experience of death with Senior Brother. It gives me such a strange feeling inside. I think I enjoy it…” she continued to babble senselessly.
[What the hell...] The Sage was utterly speechless.
What cosmic error had led her to create such a twisted clone?
If this was merely a fragment of her own personality, then what did that say about her true nature?
No, she had to abandon any hope of using this clone to reach the final peak of the Sage realm.
In fact, the entire idea of creating clones seemed like a mistake now. She watched in horror as the body’s energy reached a critical, explosive threshold.
[Wait, stop! I will help you save him! Do not destroy the body!] the Sage screamed.
Hearing this, Li Yao settled slightly, the aura of self-destruction beginning to fade.
“Hmm, I suppose seeing Senior Brother now is better than waiting for death. As lovely as it would be to die with him, it might take too long to reunite. I can’t tolerate waiting nine months to be reborn and years more to grow strong enough to find him again.”
