Immortal Mortal Chapter 1221: Plotting Against Mo Wuji
"My Lord, Qing Yuan, Tai Luan, and Yuan Jie are far too powerful. I couldn't stop them, but I managed to hold this fellow back."
Tian Hen, a Sage, had clearly regained his strength. The fact that a Sage like him addressed Mo Wuji as 'Lord' sent shockwaves through Gu Pingren. Even a Sage acknowledged Mo Wuji's superiority; this Mo Wuji was truly audacious.
Mo Wuji understood that Tian Hen could not possibly obstruct Tai Luan and the others, and he didn't dwell on it. His attention shifted to a slender monk. This was the individual who had acquired the Dao Law of the Universe during the Sage Dao Conference Auction. Since Tian Hen could impede him, his cultivation clearly didn't match Tian Hen's.
Sensing Mo Wuji's gaze, the monk quickly clasped his fists in greeting, stating, "Junior greets Senior Mo."
He made no mention of the Dao Law of the Universe. This Dao Law had been exchanged for with his most precious possession. He would not surrender this Dao Law, even at the cost of his life.
Mo Wuji chuckled and declared, "You may leave. Tian Hen was mistaken. My attendance at this Sage Dao Conference has no connection to you."
The thin monk was taken aback for a moment. Unrelated to him? Was Mo Wuji not interested in the Dao Law of the Universe he possessed? He absolutely refused to believe Mo Wuji was unaware of the Dao Law of the Universe on his person.
"You do not desire the Dao Law of the Universe?" The monk hesitated, not departing immediately, and instead eyed Mo Wuji with caution.
Mo Wuji plainly grasped the monk's apprehension. He laughed, explaining, "I, Mo Wuji, am not so base as to feign letting you go only to pursue you later. If I wished for it, I could act against you right now. There's no need for such roundabout methods."
At this juncture, the thin monk became certain that Mo Wuji harbored no ill intentions toward him. He swiftly recalled Mo Wuji's past actions.
Mo Wuji had reclaimed the Tao Tie Pot because it had belonged to him previously; the Sage Dao Conference had confiscated it from him initially. Apart from the Tao Tie Pot, Mo Wuji had consistently adhered to the auction's established rules.
When Mo Wuji confronted Qiang Mu, he did not seize the Book of Luo but instead engaged in a trade. He himself had exchanged the Dao Law of Reincarnation. Thus, he inherently understood that the value of the Dao Law of Reincarnation far surpassed that of the Book of Luo.
From all indications, Mo Wuji genuinely had no intention of robbing him. The thin monk bowed again, saying, "Senior possesses great integrity and righteousness. Junior feels ashamed for harboring suspicions. I shall take my leave now."
With that, his figure flickered, and he exited Tian Hen's domain.
However, he did not depart immediately. Instead, he paused and clasped his fists towards Mo Wuji, stating, "Senior Mo, Junior possesses a jade letter. Perhaps it might prove useful to Senior."
Following this, he left behind a jade letter and vanished in a flash. In the blink of an eye, he disappeared into the vast expanse of the universe.
Mo Wuji paid it no mind. The Dao Law of the Universe was indeed precious, yet he possessed three such items. After utilizing one to merge with his Mortal Halberd, he still retained two.
While others might regard this item as a supreme treasure, he did not place the same level of importance upon it.
"Dao Friend Gu, in the third level of the Immortal World's Broken World, I witnessed Dao Friend Yongxiao transformed into a stone statue. I aided him then. Many years later, he was pursued by an underling of the Underworld Sage, the Restrained Soul King. My companion and I eliminated the Restrained Soul King and rescued him. In gratitude, he bestowed upon me two pages of the Book of Luo. I never encountered him again thereafter..." As Mo Wuji spoke, he had already taken possession of the monk's jade letter in his hand.
His voice abruptly ceased, and his expression instantly soured. He then strode forward and vanished. He didn't even offer a farewell.
Just as Tian Hen and the others were pondering Mo Wuji's whereabouts, he reappeared. He presented the jade letter from his hand to Tian Hen, instructing, "Tian Hen, this is my destination. When I stepped out just now, I sensed that this place is undoubtedly perilous. Now, you will proceed to the God World's Mortal Sect. Convey to Tong Ming, Huan Ti, and the others the location I am heading towards. Bring them to assist me..."
Before he could finish speaking, Mo Wuji produced a talisman and handed it to Tian Hen, proclaiming, "This is a World Splitting Talisman. Have Huan Ti return to the Immortal World to retrieve the Gods Tower."
After Tian Hen accepted the items, Mo Wuji vanished once more. From the beginning to the end, he did not wait for Tian Hen to utter a single word.
A jade inscribed letter, presented by the monk, unveiled the location of the Book of Luo's final page. This page was currently in the possession of a woman. Though the monk hadn't sketched her likeness, Mo Wuji intuitively recognized her as Shuyin.
The reason for Shuyin's abrupt departure into a spatial vortex remained a mystery. Yet, he understood that even cultivators at the Great Circle Quasi-Sage level wouldn't dare to venture near such a phenomenon.
Concurrently, a distinct premonition gripped him: the place Shuyin had been pulled to posed immense peril for him as well, akin to a gaping maw ready to swallow him whole.
Despite the overwhelming danger, abandoning Shuyin was inconceivable for Mo Wuji.
Precisely because he could sense the severity of the threat, he had returned to Tian Hen to relay instructions. If Huan Ti were to merge with the Gods Tower, and with Tong Ming's addition, it would mean three Sage-level powerhouses aiding him—an additional thread of survival.
...
Within the Limitless Domain Sage Hall.
Sage Luo Xu, Sage Qing Yuan, Sage Tai Luan, and Sage Fo Ti occupied the highest seats of honor. To their left, more than ten influential figures were seated, including Dao Monarch Grand Desert and Dao Monarch Darkness from the four Dao Monarchs, Meng Ye from the three Rogues, and God Emperor Heng Zuo, God Emperor Ming Yue, Tao Tie, and Gui Gu from the 12 God Emperors.
Further down, approximately one hundred Throned Gods occupied the central area of the grand hall.
A somber air permeated the hall. Sage Luo Xu's gaze swept over the assembled Throned Gods before he finally spoke, asking, "Of those who have reclaimed their God Thrones and restored their powers, who is absent?"
A man shaped like a perfectly round ball then emerged and responded with utmost respect, "Greetings, esteemed Sages. The Sage Nun Pool experienced an anomaly, resulting in the Sage Nun's disappearance. Dao Monarch Yellow River, one of the four Dao Monarchs, was last seen accompanying Mo Wuji, engaging in combat with Dao Monarch Golden Poo. Principal God Kun Yun and Jie Heng are pursuing Mo Wuji closely, suggesting they may have formed an alliance..."
The portly man articulated the information with remarkable fluency, detailing the whereabouts of every significant expert with Principal God Thrones in less time than it takes for an incense stick to burn.
The four Sages wore expressions of displeasure. Sage Tai Luan, in particular, harbored resentment. Not long prior, he had quarreled with the other Sages, a dispute stemming from Luo Xu and the others' disbelief in his warnings, which led them to be deceived by Mo Wuji. Had it not been for that deception, Mo Wuji would never have had the opportunity to ascend to Sagehood and would likely have been eliminated by them already.
Sage Fo Ti then stood and addressed the assembly, "Fellow Daoist brothers, tears have manifested in the planes, and we can now proceed to the God World. Brother Luo Xu can then extract the God World's fate, after which..."
Luo Xu interjected with a wave of his hand, "The God World is secondary for now. Until Mo Wuji is dealt with, the God World holds no true significance."
He continued, his eyes scanning the assembled individuals, deliberately slowing his speech, "This individual, Mo Wuji, may have genuinely comprehended the universe's first Great Dao. While still in the Quasi-Sage stage, he managed to evade encirclement by five Sages. Now that he has achieved Sage Dao validation, it is highly probable he could escape our grasp even with our superior numbers. This can only be overcome through careful planning and strategy."
Tai Luan and Qing Yuan exchanged knowing glances, recognizing Luo Xu's attempt to inflate his own importance. Mo Wuji escaping them? Unlikely; the tables might very well turn, forcing them to retreat.
Nevertheless, Tai Luan understood the dire consequence of inaction: the universe might cease to have them as Sages. He interjected, stating, "During the Sage Dao Conference, Qing Yuan and I may not have exerted our full strength, but I assure you, if we had cooperated against Mo Wuji, and any one of us had held back, that scoundrel would have escaped. I implore everyone present to swear now that you will commit your full power when the time comes..."
"Sage Tai Luan." A voice abruptly cut through Tai Luan's declaration. Following the sound, a pale, bald man stepped forward.
Despite being a Sage, Tai Luan found himself interrupted by a mere God Emperor, a fact that fueled his irritation. Nevertheless, he maintained a polite facade, inquiring with a smile, "Ah, it is God Emperor Heng Zuo. May I inquire what you wish to convey?"
Heng Zuo clasped his fists and declared, "I have a critical matter requiring my attention, thus I will be unable to participate in this endeavor alongside everyone. I seek the Sages' understanding and forgiveness."
"Hahahaha..." Tai Luan let out a dry chuckle, already mentally marking Heng Zuo as a doomed man. After his laughter subsided, his gaze swept across the hall, "Is there anyone else with urgent affairs that preclude their involvement?"
Dao Monarch Darkness clenched his jaw and rose, announcing, "Esteemed Sages, I have yet to fully recover from severe injuries and wish to return to recuperate."
"Very well, then you shall die." Tai Luan uttered a cold harrumph and lunged directly towards Heng Zuo.
It appeared Heng Zuo had anticipated Tai Luan's actions. With a casual gesture, a colossal, pale tree root materialized. Upon its appearance, the very Dao Laws within the grand hall seemed to bifurcate, parting into two distinct streams.
"Boom!" A blinding wave of white light collided violently with Tai Luan's incoming hand imprint, causing it to shatter and dissipate immediately.
Heng Zuo's manifested tree root then reformed, becoming a shimmering white Dao Law that enveloped and shielded him at its core.
"Heaven Measuring Tree Root?" Tai Luan gasped, a rush of frigid air escaping his lips. Not only had Heng Zuo acquired the legendary Heaven Measuring Tree Root, but he had also successfully validated his own Sage Dao. It was no wonder he no longer displayed any apprehension towards them.
"Pff!" In nearly the same instant Tai Luan made his move against Heng Zuo, Dao Monarch Darkness Ku Xinren was violently reduced to a gruesome splatter of blood.
Luo Xu withdrew his hand, the perpetrator responsible for Ku Xinren's swift demise.
"Farewell." Heng Zuo's expression remained impassive as he turned, making preparations to depart.
While facing any other adversary, he would certainly have hesitated to provoke the four Sages. However, he possessed an absolute understanding of Mo Wuji's formidable power. Previously, he had merely harbored suspicions that Mo Wuji had yet to reach the Sage Stage. Now, with Mo Wuji having officially ascended to that level, he found himself even less inclined to incur his displeasure. Furthermore, the Heaven Measuring Tree Root he now possessed could be considered a gift from Mo Wuji. Had Mo Wuji truly desired to seize it back in the past, Heng Zuo would have stood no chance.
If there was a single individual in this entire universe whom he most profoundly feared, it would undeniably be Mo Wuji.
Stares of grim contemplation were cast by Luo Xu and the others towards Heng Zuo. Nevertheless, they refrained from making any move. Perhaps they too recognized that retaining Heng Zuo, with the protection of his Heaven Measuring Tree Root, would prove an insurmountable task.
"Keke, you intend to leave? Return whence you came." Just as Heng Zuo neared the doorway, a colossal hand imprint slammed down, forcibly sending him hurtling back into the hall.
