Fatty Xu, Uncle Yu, and Hua explored Edo, with Fatty Xu initially getting sidetracked by the red-light district before finding a figurine shop. Meanwhile, Deng Shentong, Bai Chunyu, Baili Changqing, and Wu Di scouted the Daliangdu Museum, finding no immediate signs of troops or Transcendents. They planned an infiltration that night to retrieve a valuable item, seeking Zhang Yi's expertise for the mission.

Fatty Xu was in a great mood today. At first he was a bit reserved, worried someone in Edo City might recognize him.

But he loosened up little by little.

By estimation, Edo City’s population was at least over five hundred thousand.

After all, nearly one third of Neon’s population was concentrated in this city.

After the apocalypse, this place had been the least affected, and many people could still maintain their livelihoods.

One mere Fatty Xu in this crowd was just one more of the countless shut-in otaku pilgrims heading to Akihabara, completely unremarkable.

Besides, from what they had seen so far, they hadn’t done anything suspicious, and the intelligence system could perfectly mimic Neon accents, so no one would detect they were outsiders.

Fatty Xu was having the time of his life in Edo. The money Deng Shentong sent them couldn’t be spent fast enough. He excitedly bought several top-tier figurines, then eagerly tried out other otaku culture spots in Edo.

Unfortunately they were supposed to act tonight, so he couldn’t enjoy the red-light district’s nightlife.

But having prepared a strategy guide, Fatty Xu followed the map’s directions and still toured all the famous otaku culture hubs.

So he let Fatty Xu go where he pleased.

As for Huahua, she simply burrowed into Uncle Yu’s thick coat and slept deeply.

“Uncle Yu! Uncle Yu! Come over, this place is freaking awesome!”

Pointing at a shop ahead, Fatty Xu shouted excitedly to the uncle behind him.

Uncle Yu trudged over helplessly, “I know, I know. What did you find this time?”

But when he got closer, he couldn’t help but feel a flash of interest in his eyes.

How Fatty Xu found it, no one knew. In a tucked-away alley, there was a daytime bar.

By Neon time it was about three in the afternoon. The light was dimming, but five o’clock — nightfall — was still a ways off.

Why could Uncle Yu tell it was an izakaya? It was obvious — a giant shochu-bottle-shaped sign stood at the entrance.

“Hey, Fatty Xu, are you out of your mind? Drinking at this hour?”

Uncle Yu frowned and glared at Fatty Xu.

Fatty Xu hurried up to his ear and said, “This isn’t an ordinary izakaya! It has a special shabishi. I did my research. You’ll see once you go in!”

“Special… shabishi?”

Uncle Yu frowned even deeper.

“Hey, do you even know what time it is?”

Fatty Xu pleaded, “I just want to broaden my horizons! I promise I won’t drink alcohol, I’ll only have juice, okay?”

Uncle Yu refused, but he couldn’t resist Fatty Xu’s persistent begging and the promise not to drink and mess things up.

He contacted Zhang Yi and explained the situation.

Zhang Yi had just come out of a maid cafe not long ago. He was planning to kill time at a pachinko parlor or try an arcade to experience Neon’s features.

Hearing Uncle Yu, he glanced at the sky and said, “No alcohol. If you encounter anyone strange, report to me immediately. Otherwise, indulge him a little.”

“Understood!”

After ending the call, Uncle Yu stared at Fatty Xu and warned him again, “Remember, during mission hours, no drinking!”

Fatty Xu’s excited face looked like someone who had eaten two jin of candied yams.

“Got it!”

Fatty Xu wasn’t truly there for alcohol.

More precisely, he came for the hostesses who entertained at the izakaya.

He had a terrible tolerance for liquor and couldn’t drink much, but his greedy, lecherous nature never changed.

Once inside, he swaggered and chose a private room. The madam in charge, wearing a white kimono, came over and bowed with a smile, asking what the customer needed.

Uncle Yu sat in the corner with his arms folded, his bear-like bulk planted there, his face as dark as a slab of iron.

He replied coldly, “No need.”

He was not impressed by Neon women.

Fatty Xu leaned in and teased, “Uncle Yu, look at it differently! We’re doing this for the country’s pride.”

Uncle Yu rolled his eyes.

“You’re getting pushy! I won’t make mistakes at a time like this.”

He was from a military background, measured in action; that was why he and Fatty Xu didn’t understand timing the same way.

Fatty Xu waved a big hand and told the madam, “Bring two, nothing over eighteen!”

The madam bowed with a smile and left.

Uncle Yu couldn’t help himself. Gritting his teeth, he said, “Zhang Yi is lenient with you, but don’t act up! Nothing over eighteen? What are you even talking about?”

Fatty Xu blinked, “Of course I mean fruit plates!”

“Are you serious saying that and actually believing it?”

As Uncle Yu was about to thump him, Fatty Xu held his hand down and his expression turned serious.

“Uncle Yu, don’t get riled. I didn’t come without reason!”

“Hmph, I know you’ve got a reason.”

“Hey, not that kind of reason.”

Fatty Xu glanced around, then lowered his voice to whisper beside Uncle Yu:

“You know, even though I usually seem useless, I still have a nine-thousand ability index as an ice-and-snow Transcendent.”

Uncle Yu widened his eyes and sized Fatty Xu up. “You’re oddly self-aware.”

“Ahem, that’s not the point!”

He said earnestly, “What I mean is, I’m more sensitive than most people to changes in air temperature.”

He stretched his hand into the air as if slowly grabbing something from the void.

“I haven’t forgotten the boss’s mission. I’m working hard to increase my usefulness so I don’t hold everyone back.”

“So I’ve been sticking to crowded places the whole way here.”

Uncle Yu’s disdain faded into interest. “What did you find?”

Fatty Xu stared and said seriously, “These people seem normal, but their body temperatures are clearly off. Even the boss and the others didn’t notice this. I did!”

Body temperature?

Uncle Yu was taken aback.

Who could sense that?

“What’s your plan then?”

A deep, knowing smile pulled at Fatty Xu’s mouth. He looked up as the madam led several sexy hostesses over, and rubbed his hands eagerly.

“I need to personally feel it to confirm my suspicion!”

Uncle Yu nearly lost his balance from irritation.

After all that, he still just wanted to cozy up to the hostesses?
